Scaffold Hopping for Pesticide Discovery: Design, Synthesis, and Biological Activity Research of Novel Raspberry Ketone Derivatives.

Plant diseases continuously threaten crop yield and quality. Given the overuse of chemical agents, developing antiviral and fungicidal agents from natural products represents a promising sustainable strategy. In this study, a series of raspberry ketone derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their antiviral and fungicidal activities. Most compounds exhibited better antiviral activity than ribavirin; in particular, compounds 3iand 5h-5j showed significantly higher antiviral activity (EC50: 144-199 μg/mL) than ningnanmycin (EC50: 235 μg/mL) and thus emerged as novel antiviral c

Research on design and control method of active vibration isolation system based on piezoelectric Stewart platform.

Space payloads in orbit are vulnerable to small vibrations from satellite platforms, which can degrade their performance. Traditional methods typically involve installing a passive vibration isolation system between the platform and the payload. However, such systems are usually effective only for high-frequency, large-amplitude vibrations and perform poorly in isolating low-frequency vibrations and resonances below 10 Hz. To address this limitation, this paper proposes an active vibration isolation system using a 6-degrees-of-freedom Stewart platform driven by piezoelectric actuators. First,

Research Design and Methods in Community Team Lifestyle Immersion Program for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control.

Persisting disparities in the control of chronic diseases are linked to several barriers to health prevention, including cultural norms, insufficient attention to health education, lack of access to physical activity, large serving portions, and excess added sodium and sugar by the food industry and restaurants [1]. In line with lifestyle modifications proposed for several decades [2, 3, 4, 5], the goal of this study is to develop and evaluate the efficacy of a Lifestyle Immersion intervention for chronic disease control. The study will be conducted in two settings, the community and the healt

Research and Design of Aggregation-Induced Phosphorescent Materials for Time-Resolved Two-Photon Excited Luminescence Imaging.

Pure organic two-photon excited room temperature phosphorescent (RTP) materials have attracted great attention for time-resolved imaging due to their long emission lifetime and high resolution. The materials with an aromatic carbonyl group exhibit aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and RTP characteristics simultaneously. Here, we deeply explored the nature of aggregation-induced phosphorescence (AIP), especially the relationship between molecular configuration and optical properties. It was found that aggregation effect can suppress geometrical vibrations and regulate energy difference between

Ambient air pollution and lung disease in China: health effects, study design approaches and future research.

Ambient air pollution in China has worsened following dramatic increases in industrialization, automobile use and energy consumption. Particularly bothersome is the increase in the PM2.5 fraction of pollutants. This fraction has been associated with increasing rates of cardio-respiratory disease in China and elsewhere. Ambient pollutant levels have been described in many of China's cities and are comparable to previous levels in southern California. Lung cancer mortality in China has increased since the 1970s and has been higher in men and in urban areas, the exact explanation for which has no

The human studies database project: federating human studies design data using the ontology of clinical research.

Human studies, encompassing interventional and observational studies, are the most important source of evidence for advancing our understanding of health, disease, and treatment options. To promote discovery, the design and results of these studies should be made machine-readable for large-scale data mining, synthesis, and re-analysis. The Human Studies Database Project aims to define and implement an informatics infrastructure for institutions to share the design of their human studies. We have developed the Ontology of Clinical Research (OCRe) to model study features such as design type, int

Sample size determination across study designs in health professions education research: a methodology guide.

BACKGROUND: Sample size determination is one of the least reported elements in the methods sections of health professions education (HPE) research. Underpowered studies miss real effects, whereas overpowered studies waste participants and resources. Guidance remains fragmented across statistical textbooks and discipline-specific papers, with no unified reference for HPE researchers. METHODS: We developed this guide as a structured narrative synthesis. Sources were identified through targeted database searching, citation chaining, and standard statistical texts, and selected against pre-specif

Conference Proceedings for the 2024 Design for Implementation: The Future of Trauma Research and Clinical Guidance Conference Series.

Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death for individuals aged 1-45 in the USA. Variations in patient management based on geographic locations, community resources, and provider characteristics contribute to disparities in patient outcomes. It is estimated that 20,000 Americans lives could be saved yearly if all trauma centers performed as well as the highest-performing center, which is achievable, in part, through the reduction of inappropriate practice variation. Trauma clinical guidance currently lacks standardization, is redundant, and remains difficult to access and implement at the

Clinical Research: A Review of Study Designs, Hypotheses, Errors, Sampling Types, Ethics, and Informed Consent.

Recently, we have been noticing an increase in the emergence and re-emergence of microbial infectious diseases. In the previous 100 years, there were several incidences of pandemics caused by different microbial species like the influenza virus, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), dengue virus, severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV), middle east respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), and SARS-CoV-2 that were responsible for severe morbidity and mortality among humans. Moreover, non-communicable diseases, including malignancies, diabetes, heart, liver, kidney, and lung d

Research experimental design for the construction and identification of the pGEX-BCKD-E4A recombinant point-mutant plasmid.

Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is an organ-specific autoimmune disease that eventually develops into cirrhosis and even liver cancer. In recent years, the incidence rate has been increasing, and the early diagnosis and treatment of PBC are crucial. In the early diagnosis method of PBC, anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMAs) are an important diagnostic basis, especially the M2 subtype (AMA-M2) with almost 100% specificity. We selected the BCOADC-E2 protein, a mitochondrial autoantigen that reacts specifically with AMA-M2 antibodies, and carried out DNA recombination and protein mutation experime

Designing a Patient-Friendly Website for Newly Diagnosed Cancer Patients with the Participatory Health Research Approach.

High-quality and user-friendly patient information material (PIM) is essential for understanding and accepting a new care programme. When optimising the PIM of the integrated, cross-sectoral psycho-oncological (isPO) care programme, the design of the fifth element of the patient information strategy-the patient-friendly website-was still pending. In this paper, the iterative design process of the patient-friendly isPO website is described. We applied the participatory health research (PHR) approach to enable high levels of participation of its respective end-users (e.g., cancer survivors), ser

Use of pragmatic and explanatory trial designs in acute care research: lessons from COVID-19.

Unique challenges arise when conducting trials to evaluate therapies already in common clinical use, including difficulty enrolling patients owing to widespread open-label use of trial therapies and the need for large sample sizes to detect small but clinically meaningful treatment effects. Despite numerous successes in trials evaluating novel interventions such as vaccines, traditional explanatory trials have struggled to provide definitive answers to time-sensitive questions for acutely ill patients with COVID-19. Pragmatic trials, which can increase efficiency by allowing some or all trial
