BACKGROUND: DICER1 syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disorder and presents a variety of manifestations.
CASE: A 15-year-old adolescent presented cervical embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, retroperitoneal tumor and multinodular goiter. Genetic analysis demonstrated a mutation in Exon 25 of DICER1 gene, a mutation in Intron 19 of NF1 gene, and a mutation in Exon 7 of TP53 gene. The patient received surgical treatment and six courses of combination chemotherapy. After 7 months of initial diagnosis, the patient occurred a pleural and mediastinal metastasis and eventually died of respiratory

Malignant transformation of intracranial nongerminomatous germ cell tumors (NGGCTs) is a rare but clinically relevant phenomenon. We present the case of a 13-year-old boy with a localized, pineal NGGCT. After an initial favorable response, tumor growth was noted while still on chemotherapy. Histopathologic characterization revealed that 40% of the tumor was embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), consistent with potential malignant transformation. Due to the rare nature of NGGCT malignant transformation, the best clinical approach to these cases remains unclear. We explore existing cases, treatments

A case in which an embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the cervix and an ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell tumour of intermediate differentiation occurred in a 13-year-old girl is described. Although initially considered as a chance association, a review of the literature showed the co-occurrence of these two uncommon neoplasms in three previous cases. The reason for this association, which is thought to be more than coincidental, is not known, although an underlying genetic abnormality is a possibility. The ovarian tumour in this case was characterised by the presence of foci of cells with extremely pleo

BACKGROUND: Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) predominantly occurs in children; primary cervical ERMS in adults is exceedingly rare and readily misdiagnosed, as its typical presentations-abnormal vaginal bleeding and a cervical mass-closely resemble gestational trophoblastic disease and uterine sarcomas.
CASE REPORT: We present two cases of high-grade cervical ERMS in reproductive-age women; both presented \with abnormal vaginal bleeding and were diagnosed with stage IVB disease with regional lymph node metastasis at initial admission. Case 1 was complicated by synchronous bilateral pulmonary

Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a soft tissue sarcoma originating from primitive mesenchymal cells that exhibit varying degrees of skeletal muscle differentiation. Although RMS predominantly affects children and adolescents-representing one of the most common pediatric solid malignancies-it is exceptionally rare in adults, constituting less than 1% of adult cancers. Due to its embryonic mesenchymal origin, RMS can develop in virtually any organ. In adults, the most common sites are the trunk (27%) and limbs (26%), with the reproductive tract accounting for 17%. Current understanding of adult embryon

CONTEXT.—: Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) is a rare, often high-grade sarcoma. A small subset of MPNST shows evidence of heterologous rhabdomyoblastic differentiation, also known as malignant triton tumor (MTT). Immunohistochemical loss of histone 3 lysine 27 trimethylation (H3K27me3) has previously been described as a reliable marker for both MPNST and MTT.
OBJECTIVE.—: To assess the loss of H3K27me3 as a potential tool for discriminating MTT from embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS).
DESIGN.—: We studied the immunohistochemical expression of H3K27me3 in 23 pediatric cases of

BACKGROUND: Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) of the prostate is a rare and aggressive malignant tumor in adults with a poor prognosis in general. The main presenting symptoms are dysuria and acute urinary retention. Prostate ERMS is easily misdiagnosed, which leads to delays in treatment.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We report the case of a previously healthy 31-year-old man who presented with dysuria for 3 months. Digital rectal examination (DRE), ultrasound, and computed tomography (CT) were suggestive of the possibility of a 2.0 cm × 3.0 cm abscess in the left lobe of the prostate. Prostate-specific

Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) of the uterus has recently been shown to frequently harbor DICER1 mutations. Interestingly, only rare cases of extrauterine DICER1-associated ERMS, mostly located in the genitourinary tract, have been reported to date. Our goal was to study clinicopathologic and molecular profiles of DICER1-mutant (DICER1-mut) and DICER1-wild type (DICER1-wt) ERMS in a cohort of genitourinary tumors. We collected a cohort of 17 ERMS including nine uterine (four uterine corpus and five cervix), one vaginal, and seven urinary tract tumors. DNA sequencing revealed mutations of DI

Gynecologic sarcomas are uncommon neoplasms, the majority occurring in the uterus. Due to the diverse nature of these, the description of "new" morphological types and the rarity of some of them, pathological diagnosis and treatment is often challenging. Finding genetic alterations specific to, and frequently occurring, in a certain type can aid in the diagnosis. DICER1 is a highly conserved ribonuclease crucial in the biogenesis of microRNAs and mutations in DICER1 (either somatic or germline) have been detected in a wide range of sarcomas including genitourinary embryonal rhabdomyosarcomas (

We present a case of a nasal rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) in a 27-year-old male with epistaxis and nasal obstruction due to a mass, which was subjected to prophylactic tumor embolization. However, histopathological study on the nasal biopsy was impossible due to necrotic changes. As blast cells were present in peripheral blood samples, a bone marrow biopsy was recommended in order to reach a definitive diagnosis. The possibility of an RMS in cases of bone marrow infiltration by a diffuse tumor constituted by small, round, blast-like cells mimicking acute leukemia should be assessed. Immunohistochemi

OBJECTIVE: To report three cases of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) of the cervix in young women successfully treated with fertility-sparing surgery and chemotherapy.
METHODS: Between January 2014 and December 2015, three cases of ERMS of the cervix were confirmed in young women at a single tertiary cancer center. All cases were managed by a pediatric oncologist and a gynecologic oncologist with a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. Fertility-sparing surgeries (cervical conization or robotic-assisted radical trachelectomy) were offered to patients depending on the tumor size.
RESULTS:

Transcription factors encoded by PAX3 and PAX7 are amongst the first expressed in the embryo, being principal regulators of neurogenic and myogenic progenitor cell specification and embryonic segmentation. The basis for this review lies in the supposition that genetic programs for cell migration, thought regulated by PAX3 and PAX7 during embryonic development, become tools used by the metastatic cell. In highly metastatic neoplasms arising from cells of neurogenic and myogenic lineages such as embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma and cutaneous malignant melanoma, markedly high expression levels of PAX3

A 21-year-old man with a 2-week history of abdominal pain and urinary hesitancy was admitted to our hospital. Sarcoma was suspected based on his PSA level, age, and MRI findings. He underwent 18 F-FDG and Al 18 F-FAPI-74 PET/CT scans. The scans revealed an irregularly dense prostate mass with indistinct borders to the rectum. The mass exhibited increased and heterogeneous FDG uptake and FAPI activity, with different distribution patterns between the 2 tracers. Histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare form of sarcoma mainly seen in children and adolescents. In the specific case of the cervix, embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma is an extremely rare mesenchymal tumor, accounting for <1 % of all cervical cancers. This highly malignant tumor mainly affects adolescents and young adults.
CASE PRESENTATION: We describe the case of a 29-year-old woman with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the cervix, which manifested as an exophytic cervical mass. Histopathological and immunohistochemical findings confirmed the presence of embryonal rhabdomyos

Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the uterine cervix is an uncommon presentation of the most common soft-tissue sarcoma in the first decades of life. Unlike embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma in other anatomic sites, in which 70-80% of cases present before 9 years of age, the average age in our series of 14 cervical cases was 12.4 years (median, 13 years), with an age range of 9 months to 32 years at diagnosis. Of the 14 cases, 12 presented as a polyp at the cervical os; two patients had an infiltrative mass in the cervix without a botryoid polyp. The polyps measured 1.5-5 cm and all had the histopatholog

A case of botryoid-type embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the renal pelvis in a 49-year-old woman is reported. The tumor led to hydronephrosis. The surgical resection specimen disclosed a translucent, polypoid mass attached to the wall of the renal pelvis by thin stalk. Light-microscopic examination revealed a large exophytic polypoid tumor with intact surface epithelium, which was negative for dysplasia or carcinoma in situ. There was a condensation of epithelioid to spindle cells underneath the basement membrane, forming a cambium layer. The core of the lesion contained interspersed epithelioid

Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the uterine cervix is a rare neoplasm which is almost invariably associated with pathogenic somatic or germline DICER1 mutations; patients with germline mutations have DICER1 syndrome. We report 2 subtle cervical embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, one occurring in a 21-yr-old woman with a known history of DICER1 syndrome and the other in a 19-yr-old woman with no history of DICER1 syndrome or DICER1-associated neoplasms. Both neoplasms focally involved otherwise benign endocervical polyps and were characterized histologically by subtle areas of increased stromal cellular

BACKGROUND: Cervical embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) is a rare type of malignant cervical tumors which is usually found in young females. The symptoms of cervical ERMS are non-specific. The age of onset and the hidden site of the tumor make it difficult to make an early diagnosis.
CASE DESCRIPTION: Here we report a case of a 15-year-old girl with cervical ERMS and her non-specific symptoms started from a vulval mass stuck in the vaginal opening. This case is unique in terms of the cervix-similar appearance and the initial ultrasound images, which made the vulval mass misdiagnosed as a prola

Rhabdomyosarcoma of the prostate is a rare mesenchymal tumor that originates from undifferentiated mesenchymal cells. Spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma is a variant of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. The vast majority of these two pathological types occur in children, with only a few adult cases reported to date, and both are associated with poor clinical outcomes. We herein report a case involving a man in his early 40s with spindle cell embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the prostate. His chief complaint was difficult urination. The diagnosis was confirmed by puncture biopsy of the prostate, and pelvic l
