Allergic rhinitis--current pharmacotherapy.

The use of pharmacotherapy for allergic rhinitis remains a central strategy in the integrated treatment of the patient. The most appropriate medical therapy depends upon the nature of specific rhinitis symptoms, patient tolerance to and preference for certain classes of medications, and response to treatment. Through an appreciation of these various physiological mechanisms, the physician can select the treatment option or options that will be most likely to effectively manage symptoms.

Pediatric allergic rhinitis: treatment.

Allergic rhinitis, an IgE-mediated disease, is the most common chronic childhood condition and is characterized by nasal sneezing, rhinorrhea, palate and eye itchiness, and congestion. Allergic rhinitis should be diagnosed as early as possible to avoid detrimental effects on the quality of life and comorbid disorders. Treatment initially involves avoidance measures and, when necessary, pharmacotherapy or immunotherapy. Pharmacotherapy generally involves antihistamines or nasal corticosteroids, but other medications such as leukotriene antagonists have demonstrated effectiveness in treating all

Rhinitis associated with asthma is distinct from rhinitis alone: The ARIA-MeDALL hypothesis.

Asthma, rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis (AD) are interrelated clinical phenotypes that partly overlap in the human interactome. The concept of "one-airway-one-disease," coined over 20 years ago, is a simplistic approach of the links between upper- and lower-airway allergic diseases. With new data, it is time to reassess the concept. This article reviews (i) the clinical observations that led to Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA), (ii) new insights into polysensitization and multimorbidity, (iii) advances in mHealth for novel phenotype definitions, (iv) confirmation in canonical

Developing nomograms for identifying allergic rhinitis among chronic rhinitis: A real-world study.

BACKGROUND: It is difficult to discriminate allergic rhinitis (AR) and nonallergic rhinitis (NAR) in clinical practice due to the similar clinical manifestations. The study was to assess both the demographical and clinical features of AR and NAR in the real-world data of outpatients in China. METHODS: It was a cross-sectional real-world study. AR and NAR were defined based on both subjective symptoms and objective specific serum IgE test. General demographic characteristics as well as clinical information were documented. Patients were further classified according the seasons of initial visit

Sleep disturbances in children with allergic rhinitis: Associations with rhinitis control and treatment response.

INTRODUCTION: Allergic rhinitis (AR), a common pediatric condition, is an established contributor to impaired sleep and sleep-disordered breathing. However, data on the relative impact of disease severity versus control on sleep remain limited. We aimed to investigate the associations between AR severity, disease control, and treatment response and sleep quality in Turkish children. METHODS: In this prospective study, 65 children aged 4-15 years with AR and 67 age-matched healthy controls were evaluated. Sleep quality, AR control, and AR severity were assessed using the Children's Sleep Habit

Concerns of patients with allergic rhinitis: the Allergic Rhinitis Care Programme in South Africa.

BACKGROUND: The major reason for treating chronic rhinitis is to improve quality of life. Although primary symptoms cause morbidity in their own right, these symptoms are significantly aggravated by the impact of cognitive dysfunction and quality of life. OBJECTIVE: The Allergic Rhinitis Care Programme was initiated by the South African Allergic Rhinitis Working Group. An important task of this programme was to document health-related quality of life impairment amongst allergic rhinitis patients in South Africa. METHODS: A questionnaire, appropriate to South Africa, was distributed to patien

[Differentiation between allergic rhinitis and vasomotor rhinitis by electrophoretic evaluation of the protein in pituita].

Application of trichloro-acetic acid (TCA) to the inferior turbinates is being performed at our hospital to treat allergic rhinitis. However, some patients have continous rhinorrhea even though the provocation test after treatment was negative. Electrophoretic studies were performed on the nasal discharge of such continuous rhinorrhea patients to analyze its protein components, albumin and 23kD protein. The results showed that the pituita in the unimproved cases with negative provocation result was similar in nature to the pituita in vasomotor rhinitis patients. It was concluded that the prote

Allergic Rhinitis in Israel: A Multicenter Study of Allergic Rhinitis Across Three Climate Zones.

BACKGROUND: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common illness. Worldwide prevalence varies between 5% and 50% depending on self-reported surveys, test-based studies, geographic location, and age. Despite the clinical relevance of AR in the Israeli population, few studies have characterized the sensitization profiles and key pollen aeroallergen. OBJECTIVES: To describe the most common aeroallergens eliciting a positive skin prick test (SPT) in AR patients across three different main climate zones in Israel. METHODS: We evaluated SPT of aeroallergen sensitization in 1308 AR patients from three topogr
