The enzyme Na+,K+-ATPase was localized immunohistochemically in major salivary glands of mouse, rat, and human and in exorbital lacrimal glands of the rodents. Immunoreactive Na+,K+-ATPase was abundant in the basolateral membranes of all epithelial cells lining striated and intra- and interlobular ducts of all glands. Cystadenofibromas of the fallopian tube are rare tumors of the female genital tract. These tumors are usually asymptomatic and are found incidentally. The authors present an incidentally found fallopian serous cystadenofibroma in a 48-year-old woman with leiomyoma uteri. The topographic localization of the lesion, histopathologic findings of müllerian-type epithelium, immunophenotypic profile of vimentin-cytokeratin coexpression, and diffuse apical epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) immunoreactivity suggested that the tumor was an embryologic remnant originating from the müllerian duct.

This study describes the diffuse neoplastic conditions that may affect pleural membranes. These include mesothelioma, the most important and common malignancy of pleural origin, and metastatic involvement by carcinomas, lymphomas and thymomas. On the basis of diagnostic imaging, we identify the distinctive features of pleural involvement by each of these conditions and provide elements enabling accurate differential diagnosis. Finally, we discuss the best diagnostic approach in the case of suspected primary or secondary neoplastic involvement of pleural membranes.

A 32-year-old white man sustained an ocular injury with a small piece of metal. He had perforation of the retina and choroid, and later developed chorioretinal vascular anastomosis. Disabling complications, such as neovascular growth, serous transudation, or hemorrhages, did not occur within a ten-month follow-up period. Interruption of Bruch's membrane and the retinal pigment epithelium, with approximation of the normally separated vasculatures of the choroid and retina, appears necessary for such anastomoses to occur.

Optic disc pit is a rare congenital anomaly that can cause serous macular detachment. It has no universally accepted single treatment. Acute middle ear (ME) and inner ear changes following brief unilateral phasic ME pressure changes (up to +/- 6000/mm H2O) were studied in the guinea pig. Optic disc pit (ODP) is rare congenital cavitary anomaly of the optic disc. Serous detachment of macula is the most common complication of ODP and occurs in 25%-75% of these cases. Although various surgical techniques have been used for the treatment of ODP maculopathy; consensus still eludes as far as the optimal surgical approach is concerned. We herein report a case of ODP maculopathy in a young female treated successfully with vitrectomy, fovea sparing internal limiting membrane flap, and C3F8 tamponade.
