Effect of formaldehyde exposure on phytochemical content and functional activity of Agaricus bisporus (Lge.) Sing.

In this study, the effect of formaldehyde on phytochemical content and antioxidant activity of Agaricus bisporus was investigated. Synthetic compost based on wheat straw was prepared by fermentation and disinfection. After steam pasteurization, 5 g of A. bisporus mycelia were inoculated into 1 kg of compost. To determine the effects of formaldehyde, 2, 4, and 6% concentrations were added to the composts, while compost without formaldehyde was used for the control group. The harvesting period was set at 10 weeks. Total phenolic and flavonoid content, macro- and microelement profile, and phenoli

Use of Terminology and the Effect of Training on Auditory-Perceptual Ratings of Speaking Voice by Singing Teachers.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to investigate group differences between singing teachers and speech-language pathologists when rating dysphonic speaking voices and whether training using reference samples and the Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (CAPE-V) improves inter-rater reliability between and among the two groups. Differences in use of terminology and ratings could reveal potential for miscommunication in the team treatment of singers with voice disorders. STUDY DESIGN: This is a prospective pre test post test cohort study with between and within group compar

Pattern of interhemispheric synchronization in HVc during singing correlates with key transitions in the song pattern.

Many complex voluntary behaviors require that motor commands be tightly coordinated between cerebral hemispheres. The neural mechanisms underlying such coordination, however, remain poorly understood. Song production in birds is a highly stereotyped learned motor behavior that requires finely tuned coordination between hemispheres. In the present study, neural activity was recorded simultaneously from the song control nucleus HVc in each hemisphere of singing adult male zebra finches (Taeniopygia guttata). In all cases, the pattern of recorded multiunit activity in each hemisphere was highly c

Can AI singing retain users? Examining how experience, ethical acceptance, and affective engagement shape continuance intention.

INTRODUCTION: With the increasing integration of artificial intelligence into digital music applications, AI singing has emerged as a novel form of human-AI interaction in mobile karaoke platforms. Despite its growing popularity, limited research has examined the psychological mechanisms underlying users' sustained engagement with AI singing, particularly from perspectives integrating affective experience and ethical perception. To address this gap, the present study aims to investigate the technological, affective, ethical, and agency-related factors influencing users' continuance intention t

Analysis of aperiodicity in artistic Noh singing voice using an impulse sequence representation of excitation source.

Aperiodicity in the voice source is caused by changes in the vocal fold vibrations, other than the normal quasi-periodicity and the turbulence at the glottis. The aperiodicity appears to be one of the main properties that is responsible for conveying the emotion in artistic voices. In this paper, the feasibility of representing the excitation source characteristics in artistic (Noh) singing voice by an impulse-like sequence in the time domain is examined. The impulses at the glottal closure instants contribute to the major excitation of the vocal tract system. The sequence of such impulses pro

Contact Quotient of Female Singers Singing Four Pitches for Five Vowels in Normal and Pressed Phonations.

OBJECTIVES: The present study aimed to investigate the contact quotient (CQ) values of breathy, normal, and pressed phonation types in four different sections of the female singing range. METHODS: Electroglottography (EGG) and acoustic signals were recorded from 10 female singing teachers. Five vowels were sung for 1-3 seconds each, in three phonation types-normal, breathy, and pressed, in four pitches representing registration change points in the singing range. CQ values were automatically generated from the EGG signal using VoceVista at 35% threshold level. Sound pressure levels were check

Investigating the Voce Faringea: Physiological and Acoustic Characteristics of the Bel Canto Tenor's Forgotten Singing Practice.

Several historical sources from the first half of the 19th century mention a distinct third register mechanism particular to tenor voices of that period. This so-called voce faringea-often described as an "intermediate" register-is a virtually forgotten historical singing practice used to extend the upper range of the voice, where the singer modifies falsetto, typically a weak and often feminine sound, into a more powerful, tenor-like vocal quality. Based on an evaluation of historical voice register theories, training strategies, and the sound ideals of the historical period, an informed disc

Collaboration and conquest: MTD as viewed by voice teacher (singing voice specialist) and speech-language pathologist.

This study was designed as a qualitative case study to demonstrate the process of diagnosis and treatment between a voice team to manage a singer diagnosed with muscular tension dysphonia (MTD). Traditionally, literature suggests that MTD is challenging to treat and little in the literature directly addresses singers with MTD. Data collected included initial medical screening with laryngologist, referral to speech-language pathologist (SLP) specializing in voice disorders among singers, and adjunctive voice training with voice teacher trained in vocology (singing voice specialist or SVS). ParkinSong Online: protocol for a telehealth feasibility study of therapeutic group singing for people with Parkinson's disease.

INTRODUCTION: Parkinson's disease can be associated with speech deterioration and low communication confidence which in turn compromises social interaction. Therapeutic singing is an engaging method for combatting speech decline; however, face-to-face delivery can limit access to group singing. The aim of this study is to test the feasibility and acceptability of an online mode of delivery for a Parkinson's singing intervention (ParkinSong) as well as remote data collection procedures. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This ParkinSong Online feasibility trial is a single-arm, pre-post study of online sin

Voice Parameter Changes in Professional Musician-Singers Singing with and without an Instrument: The Effect of Body Posture.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The impact of body posture on vocal emission is well known. Postural changes may increase muscular resistance in tracts of the phono-articulatory apparatus and lead to voice disorders. This work aimed to assess whether and to which extent body posture during singing and playing a musical instrument impacts voice performance in professional musicians. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Voice signals were recorded from 17 professional musicians (pianists and guitarists) while they were singing and while they were singing and playing a musical instrument simultaneously. Metrics were extra

The Nasal Musculature as a Control Panel for Singing-Why Classical Singers Use a Special Facial Expression?

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explain the possible reason why classical singers seem to spread their nostrils and raise their cheeks before starting to sing. STUDY DESIGN: This is an experimental study. METHODS: Five subjects (three classical singers, two nonsingers) were investigated with nasofiberoscopy holding their breath after inhalation. The subjects were instructed to have a neutral expression first and then to take the singers' expression characterized by nostril flaring. In case of nonsingers, the special expression was rehearsed beforehand, guided by a classical singer. The follo

Some phonatory and resonatory characteristics of the rock, pop, soul, and Swedish dance band styles of singing.

This investigation aims at describing voice function of four nonclassical styles of singing, Rock, Pop, Soul, and Swedish Dance Band. A male singer, professionally experienced in performing in these genres, sang representative tunes, both with their original lyrics and on the syllable /pae/. In addition, he sang tones in a triad pattern ranging from the pitch Bb2 to the pitch C4 on the syllable /pae/ in pressed and neutral phonation. An expert panel was successful in classifying the samples, thus suggesting that the samples were representative of the various styles. Subglottal pressure was est

A report on alterations to the speaking and singing voices of four women following hormonal therapy with virilizing agents.

Four women aged between 27 and 58 years sought otolaryngological examination due to significant alterations to their voices, the primary concerns being hoarseness in vocal quality, lowering of habitual pitch, difficulty projecting their speaking voices, and loss of control over their singing voices. Otolaryngological examination with a mirror or flexible laryngoscope revealed no apparent abnormality of vocal fold structure or function, and the women were referred for speech pathology with diagnoses of functional dysphonia. Objective acoustic measures using the Kay Visipitch indicated significa
