Promoting Osseointegration of Dental Implants in Dog Maxillary Sinus Floor Augmentation Using Dentin Matrix Protein 1-Transduced Bone Marrow Stem Cells.

BACKGROUND: Beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) has been employed successfully as a synthetic graft material in maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) for placing dental implants. However, the lack of osteogenic and osteoinductive properties of this substitute invariably results in bone regeneration of low quality and quantity. The purpose of this study was to determine whether loading dentin matrix protein-1 (DMP1) gene-modified bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) onto β-TCP promoted bone regeneration and osteointegration of dental implants in MSFA of dogs. METHODS: BMSCs were transd

BM-MSCs and Bio-Oss complexes enhanced new bone formation during maxillary sinus floor augmentation by promoting differentiation of BM-MSCs.

Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) have been recognized as a new strategy for maxillary sinus floor elevation. However, little is known concerning the effect of the biomechanical pressure (i.e., sinus pressure, masticatory pressure, and respiration) on the differentiation of BM-MSCs and the formation of new bone during maxillary sinus floor elevation. The differentiation of BM-MSCs into osteoblasts was examined in vitro under cyclic compressive pressure using the Flexcell® pressure system, and by immunohistochemical analysis, qRT-PCR, and Western blot. Micro-CT was used to de

Bone Graft Packing and Its Association with Bone Regeneration in Maxillary Sinus Floor Augmentations: Histomorphometric Analysis of Human Biopsies.

Research in maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA) focussed on the optimisation of microstructural parameters such as microporosity and particle size of bone substitute particles (BS). However, little is known about the impact of BS packing and the corresponding (void) interparticular space on bone regeneration. The aim of this study was to characterise the spatial distribution of BS and its association with BS integration 6 ± 1 months after MSFA. Histological thin-ground sections of 70 human sinus biopsies were histomorphometrically analysed: In serial zones of 100 µm proceeding from the s

A new technique for the transcrestal sinus floor elevation and alveolar ridge augmentation with press-fit bone cylinders: a technical note.

BACKGROUND: The minimally invasive sinus floor elevation as first described by Summers is limited in the volume of augmentation that is possible. In contrast, the more invasive approach is the sinuslift of Tatum which is indicated for greater bone deficiencies. Therefore, a new technique was developed for transcrestal elevation of the sinus floor and alveolar ridge augmentation with bone dowels in press-fit technique. MATERIALS & METHODS: The crestal cortical bone is cut with a hollow grinder followed by an indirect sinus floor elevation with a plunger. The cylindrical defect is then filled w
