Post-Occlusion Application of Skin Protective Creams Does Not Affect Occlusion-Induced Barrier Changes: A Randomized Controlled Experimental Study.

BACKGROUND: Glove occlusion increases skin susceptibility to irritants ('occlusion effect'). Previous experimental data showed that applying protective creams (PCs) before glove occlusion does not prevent this effect and may even aggravate irritant responses. OBJECTIVES: To assess whether the application of PCs after glove occlusion modifies the occlusion effect. METHODS: In a randomized, single-blind (participants were blinded) study, 68 healthy volunteers were examined over 10 days. Two commercially available PCs (A, B) and one standardized model cream (C) were applied after occlusion for

Diverse clinical manifestations and prognosis in a couple's mercury poisoning caused by skin-lightening creams: two case reports and literature review.

Skin exposure to mercury-containing creams occurs most commonly in young and middle-aged women and, in a few cases, in men. This article presents the symptoms and prognosis of a couple who developed mercury poisoning after cosmetic use of similar duration and dosage. Case 1 is a 33-year-old man who developed nephrotic syndrome after using skin-lightening creams containing mercury over 9 months. Renal puncture pathology indicated membranous nephropathy. During the course of the illness, the patient intermittently took Chinese medicine. Approximately 4 months later, the patient developed pulmona

Experimental study of the effects of a new protective cream against skin irritation provoked by the organic solvents n-hexane, trichlorethylene and toluene.

In a first experiment, the potential effectiveness of three cream formulations (A, B, C) against skin irritation due to n-hexane was evaluated using a guinea pig model. Semi-quantitative histopathological assessment of skin lesions were carried out. Due to interesting protective effects, cream formulation A (Travabon) was selected and further investigated. In a second series of experiments, this cream showed some protective effects against irritation due to toluene, but was not found efficacious against trichlorethylene irritation.

Investigating the efficacy of topical application of Ipomoea carnea herbal cream in preventing skin damage induced by UVB radiation in a rat model.

Ultraviolet-B irradiation is a common environmental stressor that has detrimental effects on human skin. Natural sunscreens are well-known for their ability to benefit inflamed sunburn and dry skin. This study examined the effect of formulated Ipomoea carnea herbal cream on UVB-induced skin damage. We screened the bioactive compounds of I. carnea crude extract, showing significant antioxidant activity. Additionally, we evaluated the cytotoxicity, revealing that I. carnea extract has less toxicity to vero cells (IC50 98.45 μg/mL) than to A375 cells (IC50 48.95 μg/mL). Based on this, we formulat

Assessment of the efficacy, skin acceptability and cosmetic quality of an adjuvant cream based on 40% urea and amino-inositol in the treatment of mild psoriasis.

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease with a multifactorial genesis. Structural changes are encountered in psoriasis and skin barrier function is impaired. Tight junctions (TJs) play a key role in skin barrier dysfunction. Loss of profilaggrin or filaggrin leads to changes in the stratum corneum and consequent loss of water and the development of xerosis. METHODS: We carried out an observational study to evaluate the efficacy, skin acceptability and cosmetic qualities of a cream formulation, based on 40% urea and amino-inositol, in the treatment of mild psoriasis in the abse

Therapeutics interventions with anti-inflammatory creams in post radiation acute skin reactions: a systematic review of most important clinical trials.

The majority of cancer patients will receive radiation therapy treatment at some stage during their malignancy. An acute skin reaction represents a common post radiation side effect with different grade of severity. In order to investigate the optimal methods to prevent and manage acute skin reactions related to radiation therapy we have conducted a systematic review on this topic. It seems that skin washing, including gentle washing with water alone with or without mild soap, should be permitted in patients receiving radiation therapy, to prevent acute skin reaction. In addition, a low dose (

Comparison of mercury levels in various tissues of albino and pigmented mice treated with two different brands of mercury skin-lightening creams.

The use of mercury containing skin-lightening creams are becoming increasingly popular among dark-skinned women. The long-term use of certain brands may cause serious health effects over the years. In the present study, we investigated the dermal absorption of mercury and its accumulation in the tissues of albino and pigmented mice treated with two brands of mercury containing skin-lightening creams for a period of one months at different intervals. The mean +/- SD of mercury in the selected brands were: (1) Fair & Lovely (0.304 +/- 0.316 microg/g); and (2) Rose (77513.0 +/- 71063.0 microg/g).

[Invasive and non-invasive studies of the protective action of a silicon-containing cream and its excipient in skin irritation induced by sodium laurylsulfate].

The purpose of our study was to evaluate the protective effect of a new silicone-containing barrier-cream (Anthydro) and its vehicle (Anthydro without silicone) in the prevention of cutaneous irritation by detergents. We therefore planned a study in several stages, using an anionic surfactant well known for its irritant properties: sodium laurylsulphate (SLS) in aqueous solution. In a first series of experiments, the protective effect of the Anthydro cream against SLS was studied by invasive methods on guinea-pigs in order to determine histologically the protective effect of the cream when a 1
