Osteoarticular involvement is the most frequently observed complication of brucellosis. Brucellosis tenosynovitis of the extensor tendon sheath is an extremely rare manifestation of musculoskeletal brucellosis. A 36-year-old male patient presented with described pain in his right wrist that had started six days earlier. There was also a diffuse swelling in the first finger of his right hand. The patient described fever, night sweats, widespread muscle pain and fatigue that had been going on for the last six days. Standard tube agglutination for Brucella was positive at a titre of 1/320. At dia

BACKGROUND: De Quervain's tenosynovitis is defined as stenosing tenosynovitis of the synovial sheath of tendons of abductor polices longus and extensor pollicis brevis in the first compartment of wrist due to repetitive use.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the results of injecting corticosteroids injections for De Quervain's tenosynovitis.
METHODS: 80 patients with disease were included in this study. All had a mean of 5.87 weeks of treatment of the condition with NSAIDs and had shown no response. Using Visual analogue scale the severity of tenderness on first dorsal compartment and pain felt on Finkel

PURPOSE: Diabetic patients are susceptible to stenosing flexor tenosynovitis (FTS) and may have a diminished response to treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine whether elevated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels are associated with the development of FTS.
METHODS: A review of our diabetic registry identified a cohort of patients with diabetes mellitus. We stratified this cohort to those with and without a diagnosis of FTS during 2008 based on International Classification of Diseases-9 coding (727.00-727.05J). We reviewed charts to confirm the diagnosis. For patients diagnosed with F

AIM: To study the clinical presentation of poststreptococcal reactive arthritis (PSRA) and its periarticular manifestation.
METHODS: This is a retrospective study. The files of all patients diagnosed with PSRA between January 2004 and November 2007 were reviewed with a predetermined checklist. Patients were included if they met our study criteria for diagnosis of PSRA.
RESULTS: A total of 33 files were reviewed; 26 of these patients (14 female, 12 male, Arab and Asian, aged 11-41 years) met our agreed protocol for the diagnosis of PSRA. The ethnic backgrounds of the patients were as follows:

PURPOSE: De Quervain's tenosynovitis is thought to occur most frequently in women, with presentation of pain and swelling in the first dorsal extensor sheath. The epidemiology of this extensor tendinitis is not well described. We evaluated the incidence and demographic risk factors for de Quervain's tenosynovitis using a large database of military personnel.
METHODS: The Defense Medical Epidemiology Database (DMED) collects International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, and Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) coding information for every patient encounter occurring for United States mil

AIM: To describe the clinical, radiographic, and sonographic features of 15 dogs with bicipital tendinitis and tenosynovitis, classify them according to cause, and evaluate the long-term efficacy of treatment.
METHODS: Dogs exhibiting forelimb lameness with pain localised to the biceps tendon were included in the study. Sonographic examination of the tendon and tendon sheath, and radiographic examination including positive contrast arthrograms of the shoulder joint were performed, and assessed for features consistent with biceps tendon disease. In some cases, synovial-fluid analysis and surgi

A 77-year-old woman with a seropositive nodular rheumatoid arthritis and vasculitis, who was treated with high doses of corticosteroids and intravenous cyclophosphamide, developed miliary tuberculosis that was heralded by a tenosynovitis in her right wrist. A 1-year course of anti-tuberculous therapy resulted in complete resolution of the tenosynovitis and disseminated infection.

A case of miliary tuberculosis presenting initially as pyogenic fasciitis and tenosynovitis is described. The unusual presenting clinical features suggestive of a noninfectious inflammatory condition resulted in delayed diagnosis. Tuberculous fasciitis and tenosynovitis were diagnosed by the presence of acid-fast bacilli in histopathologic sections and confirmed by the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis from cultures of tissue specimens.

Tuberculosis of tendon sheaths of the hand was rare before the advent of antituberculous drugs. It seems now-a-days exceptional, for the published series become more an more uncommon and smaller. Therefore, the diagnosis is often an operative surprise on a patient with a painless, gradually developing tenosynovitis. No patient suffered from other active tuberculosis. But two of them had an old history of tuberculosis (knee and kidney). Analysis of other cases is inconclusive about the relation ship between trauma and tuberculosis. Histology and cultures establish the diagnosis. Surgical treatm

PURPOSE: Patient preferences and expectations following both nonsurgical and operative treatment of de Quervain's tenosynovitis are unclear. In this study, we aim to better delineate patient preferences for initial management of de Quervain's tenosynovitis. For patients considering surgical treatment, we hope to identify which factors of surgical care are most important for patients to receive counseling.
METHODS: An online crowdsourcing platform, Amazon Mechanical Turk, was used to recruit study participants. Study participants were then led through a clinical scenario pertaining to de Querv

A 72-year-old man presented with tenosynovitis of the left hand's extensor tendons that had been present for several months. He was initially treated with corticosteroids, first by local injection then systemically, but with no effect. When re-evaluated, the patient had developed a rash, and the symptoms had spread locally to surrounding structures. At this point, the patient added to the medical history that he had been stung by a sculpin a month before the debut of symptoms. Based on this, the patient's involved area was biopsied, and subsequent microbiology findings proved consistent with M

Disseminated gonococcal infection (DGI) commonly presents with arthritis, flexor compartment tenosynovitis, and dermatitis. Osteomyelitis and extensor compartment tenosynovitis caused by DGI is rarely reported in medical literature. We describe one such case of extensor tenosynovitis and osteomyelitis of the wrist joint which symptomatically improved after arthrotomy and intravenous antibiotics.

INTRODUCTION: Pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis is an unusual complication of dyshidrotic eczema. The diagnosis has traditionally been made by Kanavel's signs. Point-of-care ultrasound can be a useful adjunct in the diagnosis of this surgical emergency.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 23-year-old male who presented with right middle finger pain and swelling and an overlying eczematous rash. The use of point-of-care ultrasound was performed to aid in the diagnosis of pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis. An incision and drainage was performed with deep wound cultures positive for Staphylococcus aure

BACKGROUND: Both stenosing tenosynovitis and Dupuytren's contracture are common conditions encountered in hand surgery. Connections between 2 diseases have been suggested in literature. The purpose of this study was to examine whether there's an association between the 2 processes.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review was performed to include all patients seen by a single surgeon between 2014 and 2017 with the diagnosis of either trigger finger or Dupuytren's contracture in the same hand. Patients' demographics, medical history, social and surgical histories are recorded. Univariate and mult

Nodular tenosynovitis usually affects the hands and it represents a benign pathology with locally aggressive behavior. Its etiology could be related to chronic inflammatory processes such as trauma, metabolic disturbance, and joint diseases. Histopathological analysis is required for a diagnosis of certainty and surgery represents the treatment of choice. There are no cases in the literature that describe a nodular tenosynovitis affecting the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) The main aim of the present report therefore, is to describe this unusual case and to show the utility of arthroscopic proc

DeQuervain's tenosynovitis is a common cause of radial-sided wrist pain. Symptoms result from a narrow first dorsal compartment and associated tendinosis of the enclosed extensor pollicis brevis and/or abductor pollicis longus (APL). Surgical intervention, offered when conservative measures fail to adequately relieve symptoms, requires a detailed understanding of potentially aberrant anatomy in order to avoid persistence or recurrence of symptoms. We describe a case whereby the patient presented with complaints of thumb triggering in extension and associated disabling first dorsal compartment
