The effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on the clinical outcomes of necrotizing soft tissue infections: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: To determine the efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) in the treatment of necrotizing soft tissue infections (NSTI), we conducted a meta-analysis of the available evidence. METHODS: Data sources were PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and reference lists. The study included observational trials that compared HBO with non-HBO, or standard care. The primary outcome was the mortality rate. Secondary outcomes were the number of debridement, amputation rate and complication rate. Relative risks or standardized mean differences with 95% confidence intervals were ca

The Role of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy in Temporizing Traumatic Wounds before Lower Limb Soft Tissue Reconstruction: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: In practice, there is often a delay from initial debridement and temporary fixation to definitive soft tissue coverage of traumatic leg wounds. Without clear evidence, conservative negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is increasingly used to temporize these wounds. This systematic review summarizes and synthesizes the literature on using NPWT to temporize traumatic leg wounds before surgery in adult surgical patients. METHODS: A comprehensive search of Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library was performed from inception until July 2022, inclusively. Two independent reviewers perfo

Neoadjuvant BO-112 and Hypofractionated Radiation Therapy with or without Nivolumab in Soft-Tissue Sarcoma: Preclinical and Phase I Results.

UNLABELLED: Neoadjuvant immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) and radiotherapy (RT) improve disease-free survival in select patients with soft-tissue sarcoma (STS). However, most STS are myeloid-rich and lack preexisting T cells associated with ICB response. In preclinical models, we observed that intratumoral BO-112 [nanoplexed polyinosinic: polycytidylic acid (poly I:C)] engages myeloid cells that persist after RT, ultimately enhancing T cell-dependent tumor control. We evaluated BO-112 and hypofractionated RT, with or without nivolumab, in 14 patients with high-risk STS in a phase I neoadjuvant

Semilunar Lingualized Apically Positioned Flap (SLAP) for Peri-implant Soft Tissue Phenotype Modification Therapy Around Mandibular Implants: A Case Report.

Mucogingival deformities around implants are frequent findings in clinical practice and often pre- sent as inadequate keratinized tissue and insufficient mucosal thickness. Phenotype modification therapy can increase peri-implant mucosal thickness and the amount of keratinized mucosa, im- proving the long-term clinical outcomes of implants. The free gingival graft (FGG) is considered the gold standard to increase keratinized mucosa; however, FGGs on the lingual aspects of implants are less predictable due to technique sensitivity and often present with insufficient gains in tissue thick- ness

The value of local 99mTc(Sn)-MDP bone to soft tissue uptake ratio in osteoporosis, before and during fluoride therapy.

The reproducibility and diagnostic value of local bone to soft tissue uptake ratio of 99mTc(Sn)-MDP as a bone tracer was examined in a prospective study in 35 patients who were under investigation and/or treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis. The ratio of tracer uptake in the second lumbar vertebra (L2) and both femoral shafts was calculated from the number of counts in suitable regions of interest. Results obtained with settings and calculations in the routine practice were compared to the results obtained by revision of all raw data in one run by one person. The results were compared to

Adjunctive hyperbaric oxygen combined with surgery and antifungal therapy for the management of soft tissue mucormycosis: a case report and review of the literature.

Soft tissue mucormycosis is a rare fungal infection that can develop on contaminated wounds. We report a case of Mucor circinelloides ankle infection in an immunocompetent man following a high-energy motorcycle accident, which has successfully been treated by surgery (multiple debridements, arthrodesis, soft tissue defect reconstruction with flap and skin graft), systemic antifungal therapy (initial liposomal amphotericin B followed by isavuconazole) and hyperbaric oxygen. This case highlights the therapeutic challenges and need for a multidisciplinary approach of such infection.

Implementing a superimposition and measurement model for 3D sagittal analysis of therapy-induced changes in facial soft tissue: a pilot study.

AIM: 3D digital surface photogrammetry is an objective means of documenting the quantitative evaluation of facial morphology. However, there are no standardized superimposition and measurement systems for surveying soft tissue changes. The aim of this study was to present a superimposition and measurement model for three-dimensional analysis of therapy-induced sagittal changes in facial soft tissue and to ascertain its applicability based on the reproducibility of 3D landmark positions. PATIENTS AND METHOD: Twenty-nine children were examined (eight with cleft lip and palate, six with cleft pa

Treatment of a Malignant Soft Tissue Tumor Arising in the Vicinity of the Sciatic Nerve with an In-Situ Preparation Technique and Intensive Multidisciplinary Therapy.

Preservation of the sciatic nerve is difficult in cases of highly malignant soft tissuetumors closely surrounding the nerve. Herein, we present the first case of preservation of thisnerve by combining an in-situ preparation technique (ISP; a technique enabling the preparation ofneurovascular bundles without contamination by tumor cells) with intensive concurrent neoadjuvantchemo-radiotherapy with hyperthermia (RHC; radio-hyperthermo-chemotherapy). A 62-year-oldman presented with a soft tissue mass in the right thigh and was diagnosed with undifferentiatedpleomorphic sarcoma. The tumor arose in

Dalbavancin for outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy of skin and soft tissue infections in a returning traveller : Proposal for novel treatment indications.

Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are among the most common health problems in travellers returning from tropical and subtropical countries. Importantly, the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus, the most common pathogen for purulent SSTIs, with specific drug resistance, such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and those expressing virulence genes, such as Panton-Valentine-leukocidin is higher in tropical regions than in most high resource settings. This poses challenges for the empirical antimicrobial treatment of SSTIs in returning travellers. This short report describ

Short-Term Outcomes Following Stand-Alone Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy Differ Between Bony and Soft Tissue Pathologies of the Foot and Ankle.

INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVES: Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) has emerged as a non-invasive option for treating musculoskeletal conditions. However, its effectiveness as a standalone treatment for certain foot and ankle pathologies needs further investigation. The purpose of this study is to evaluate ESWT's effectiveness as a primary intervention for bony versus soft tissue pathologies of the foot and ankle. METHODS: A retrospective analysis identified patients who received three weekly ESWT sessions (2020-2024) from a single provider for foot and ankle pathology, using standardized parame

Utidelone in patients with advanced soft tissue sarcoma refractory to anthracycline and antiangiogenic therapy (UTISARC): a single-arm phase II study.

BACKGROUND: Treatment options remain limited for patients with advanced or metastatic soft tissue sarcoma after failure of both anthracycline-based chemotherapy and antiangiogenic therapy. Utidelone, an epothilone analog, has demonstrated antitumor activity across a broad spectrum of preclinical models and clinical trials. This single-arm, phase II trial was designed to assess the efficacy and safety of utidelone in a heavily pretreated population. METHODS: This study enrolled patients aged 18 years or older with locally advanced or metastatic soft tissue sarcoma who had previously been treat
