The influence of the calcium blocker verapamil (VR) on systemic toxicity resulting from the intravesical instillation of Adriamycin (ADM) and thiotepa (THT) was assessed in mice. Eighty per cent of the animals receiving THT + VR developed a generalized alopecia. Data gathered at necroscopy failed to reveal any trauma to the major organs or the presence of a drug-induced myelosuppression. Combination of ADM and VR did not produce an enhancement of systemic toxicity, manifest as myelosuppression. We report nine children with relapsed (n = 8) or high-risk (n = 1) peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) who underwent autologous (n = 6) or allogeneic (n = 3) bone marrow transplantation (BMT). These children received transplants as part of a prospective phase I/II study of thioTEPA (TT) and total body irradiation (TBI) with escalating doses of VP-16. BACKGROUND: Group 4 medulloblastoma (MB) is rare in young children. Data on craniospinal irradiation (CSI)-sparing approaches are limited.
METHODS: This multicenter study reported outcomes for patients younger than 7 years old with Group 4 MB treated with high-dose chemotherapy (HDC) without adjuvant CSI.

We treated three children with optic pathway gliomas who had progressive disease associated with metastatic spread to the leptomeninges. One patient had radiographic resolution of leptomeningeal disease after treatment with intravenous carmustine and oral mercaptopurine but died of progressive pulmonary fibrosis.
