In situ ptychographic nanotomography captures activation, mobility, and deactivation of supported catalysts.

Nanoparticles supported on the surface of porous carrier materials are the dominant form of heterogeneous catalysts today. Yet, they suffer from a common deactivation mechanism: the loss of active surface area under industrial use conditions. Deactivation often stems from the sintering of nanoparticles, a mass-transport process whose mechanism and operating length-scale are a topic of controversy. Investigating this process is challenging, requiring not only a behavioral characterization of thousands of individual particles within the spatial confines of a hierarchically structured support but

New Advances in Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder-like Dogs.

Similar to humans, dogs could suffer an Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder-like syndrome (ADHD-like). In fact, several studies highlight the use of dogs as a model for studying ADHD. This condition entails behavioral problems expressed through impulsivity, attention issues, hyperactivity, and/or aggression, compromising the quality of life for both the caregiver and the dog. The pathophysiology of ADHD-like is complex and is associated with dysregulation of various neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine. The expression of ADHD-like behavior in dogs would appear to depend on a c

Implications of hierarchical Markov models of behavior: on irreversibility, predictability, and dimensionality.

The maturation of quantitative tools for studying the high-level structure of animal behavior, and especially tools which represent spontaneous behavior as a sequence of stereotyped and neurally well-defined 'syllables', demands that the field revisit a fundamental theoretical question: if the coarse structure of behavior can be accurately described by Markov models, what do these models really tell us about behavior? In this work, we explore the theoretical implications of these models and discuss how they allow us to quantitatively formulate questions about the sequence-like nature and effec

Exploring Knowledge and Sources of Information on Augmentative and Alternative Communication Among Board-Certified Behavior Analysts.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is often recommended to help autistic individuals develop needed skills, and as such, Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) should be prepared to assist minimally verbal individuals to learn how to communicate. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) can be a helpful tool to assist communication for these individuals. An explanatory sequential mixed-methods study, including a survey with Likert-type and open-answer questions and a semi-structured interview, was conducted to learn if BCBAs are receiving training on AAC systems and where they are obta

Protocol to generate mouse oviduct epithelial organoids for viral transduction and whole-mount 3D imaging.

Epithelial cells lining the oviduct/fallopian tube are essential in reproduction and have been identified as the cell-of-origin in high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC). This protocol describes the generation of organoids from mouse oviduct epithelial cells, providing a powerful in vitro tool to study epithelial homeostasis and malignant transformation. We also outline a protocol for whole-mount immunofluorescence and 3D confocal imaging. In addition, we describe approaches of viral transduction to investigate gene function in organoid development and epithelial cell behavior. For comple

Magnetic Resonance Imaging to Visualize Disintegration of Oral Formulations.

This article demonstrates that magnetic resonance imaging can visualize the disintegration of a variety of paracetamol containing oral formulations in an in vitro setting and in vivo in the human stomach. The different formulations had unique disintegration profiles which could be imaged both in vitro and in vivo. No special formulation approaches or other contrast agents were required. These data demonstrate the potential for further use of magnetic resonance imaging to investigate and understand the disintegration behavior of different formulation types in vivo, and could potentially be used

Heart Rate Variability in Adults With Substance Use Disorder: A Comprehensive Narrative Review.

BACKGROUND: Heart rate variability (HRV) is an indicator of autonomic abnormalities. However, little is known about the role of HRV related to substance use behavior and the association between the changes in HRV and signs of relapse in substance use. AIM: The purpose of this study was to review the existing literature on autonomic response to substance use (i.e., opioids, cocaine, and methamphetamine) measured by HRV and its outcomes related to the risk factors of relapse. METHODS: A systematic search of the literature was conducted using PubMed, PsychINFO, and Ovid Medline databases. The s

[Cognitive neuropsychological investigation of apraxia].

Apraxia is a higher-order motor disturbance of goal-directed behavior characterized by an inability to perform skilled, previously learned movements in the absence of weakness and sensory defects. Clinical findings associated apraxia are divided into two large domains, production and conceptual. In this study, we reports two severely apraxic patients, case TT and UH, whose performances suggests that production and conceptual domains may be dissociable. Case TT is a 67-year-old, right-handed man who showed content errors on actual tool use, gesture production to command and gesture to sight of

Cocreating a Digital Patient Preparedness Tool for International Students Accessing Primary Care in Germany: A Convergent Methods Study Within the Health CASCADE Network.

BACKGROUND: Digital health interventions (DHIs) are a potential tool to address communication challenges in primary care medicine by improving patient participation, treatment adherence, and self-management of chronic diseases. However, Germany's digital health infrastructure remains underdeveloped compared to other Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries. Designing tailored, context-sensitive tools requires a deep understanding of patient needs, particularly for underserved populations navigating complex health care systems. Rebirth of an old modality: revisiting intraoperative ultrasound in pituitary surgery.

Pituitary adenomas are prevalent intracranial tumors that, though benign, present surgical challenges due to their anatomy and hormonal behavior. Transsphenoidal surgery is the standard approach, but differentiation between normal gland and adenoma limits complete resection. Traditional imaging methods like MRI and CT are costly and disruptive, while intraoperative ultrasound (IOUS) offers a real-time, practical alternative for enhancing localization and surgical confidence. Recent advances in IOUS technology show promise, yet challenges such as spatial resolution and operator dependency hinde

Development of a questionnaire for assessing factors predicting blood donation among university students: a pilot study.

University students are a target group for blood donor programs. To develop a blood donation culture among university students, it is important to identify factors used to predict their intent to donate blood. This study attempted to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool to be employed in assessing variables in a blood donation behavior model based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), a commonly used theoretical foundation for social psychology studies. We employed an elicitation study, in which we determined the commonly held behavioral and normative beliefs about blood donation.

Measurement equivalence: A non-technical primer on categorical multi-group confirmatory factor analysis in school psychology.

Evidence-based interventions (EBIs) have become a central component of school psychology research and practice, but EBIs are dependent upon the availability and use of evidence-based assessments (EBAs) with diverse student populations. Multi-group confirmatory factor analysis (MG-CFA) is an analytical tool that can be used to examine the validity and measurement equivalence/invariance of scores across diverse groups. The objective of this article is to provide a conceptual and procedural overview of categorical MG-CFA, as well as an illustrated example based on data from the Social and Academi

Developing Family Healthware, a family history screening tool to prevent common chronic diseases.

Family health history reflects the effects of genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors and is an important risk factor for a variety of disorders including coronary heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. In 2004, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention developed Family Healthware, a new interactive, Web-based tool that assesses familial risk for 6 diseases (coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and colorectal, breast, and ovarian cancer) and provides a "prevention plan" with personalized recommendations for lifestyle changes and screening. The tool collects data on health behavi

An examination of the effects of eye-tracking on behavior in psychology experiments.

Eye-tracking is emerging as a tool for researchers to better understand cognition and behavior. However, it is possible that experiment participants adjust their behavior when they know their eyes are being tracked. This potential change would be considered a type of Hawthorne effect, in which participants alter their behavior in response to being watched and could potentially compromise the outcomes and conclusions of experimental studies that use eye tracking. We examined whether eye-tracking produced Hawthorne effects in six commonly used psychological scales and five behavioral tasks. The
