Restoration of endodontically treated teeth using a CAD-CAM custom post-and-core system: A direct-indirect digital workflow for post space acquisition.

A technique for restoring an endodontically treated tooth with a computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) custom post-and-core systems is described. The presented digital workflow streamlined post space digitization by integrating intraoral and extraoral scanning, enabling the subsequent design and fabrication of custom post-and-cores. The direct-indirect technique can be applied for overcoming challenges associated with digital post space acquisition arising from anatomic or technical limitations.

Diabetes Mellitus Increases the Risk of Apical Periodontitis in Endodontically-Treated Teeth: A Meta-Analysis from 15 Studies.

INTRODUCTION: At present, the incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is gradually increasing globally. In clinical practice, many patients with diabetes with apical periodontitis (AP) have poor and slow healing of periapical lesions. However, the potential relationship between the 2 is still unclear and controversial. The consensus is that DM can be deemed a risk factor for AP in endodontically-treated teeth. Therefore, we pooled existing studies and carried out a meta-analysis to explore the potential association between the 2. METHODS: Studies that met the inclusion criteria were selected from

Intracoronal lightening of discolored pulpless teeth: a modified walking bleach technique.

Intracoronal bleaching of pulpless discolored teeth is a valuable treatment modality currently disregarded by many clinicians because of the potentially disastrous consequence of cervical resorption. A patient-administered, intracoronal carbamide peroxide bleaching technique is described. This modified walking bleach method minimizes the risks because treatment time is reduced to days as opposed to weeks of the original walking bleach protocol; the concentration of the hydrogen peroxide is markedly reduced; and residual hydrogen peroxide is completely eliminated with the use of catalase prior

Orthodontic and periodontal considerations in managing teeth exhibiting significant delay in eruption.

AIM: Significant delay in tooth eruption may be observed in many orthodontic patients. This delay may lead to complications, such as devitalization, ankylosis, external root resorption, injury to the adjacent teeth, and mucogingival problems. These complications may result in prolonged treatment time, esthetic deformities, damage to the periodontal tissues, and tooth loss. This report investigates the special considerations needed in treating such cases. METHODS: Combined orthodontic and surgical treatment can be used in managing teeth exhibiting significant delay in eruption. RESULTS: A hig

Periapical replacement resorption of permanent, vital, endodontically treated incisors after orthodontic movement: report of two cases.

Radiographic observations show that periapical replacement resorption (PARR) is a frequent and unpredictable sequella of orthodontic movement of permanent maxillary incisors. Only the apical root portion undergoes resorption, and it is subsequently replaced with normal bone. PARR also occurs without orthodontic tooth movement, but these resorptions differ as to type and location. PARR clearly occurs in teeth with vital pulps after orthodontic movement; however, our two cases and a review of 43 other cases indicate that endodontically treated incisors show a statistically significant lesser fre

Effect of stannous fluoride and tetracycline on repair after delayed replantation of root-planed teeth in dogs.

Mandibular incisors were extracted and allowed to dry in air for 45 min. They were then root-planed extensively, leaving a cervical collar and the apical region uninstrumented, to prevent direct contact between root surface and alveolar bone after replantation while, at the same time, enabling precise and stable reseating of the tooth. Control teeth were replanted either without further treatment or after treatment with citric acid for 3 min. Experimental teeth were treated before replantation with 1% SnF2 for 5 min, 1% tetracycline HCl for 5 min, or 1% SnF2 followed by 1% tetracycline. Histom

[Advantages and disadvantages of applying yttrium stabilized zirconium-dioxide post and core restorations].

Full ceramic restorations are associated with metal free post and core prosthodontics for teeth with seriously destroyed clinical crowns. Using custom made zirconium-dioxide post and cores can be flattering not only to give a good aesthetic result, but also to provide excellent retention. As none of the post systems stands all demands, prudent planning is mandatory. Our paper deals with favourable and unfavourable conditions as well as common causes of failures of post and core restorations. We took morphological, esthetical and functional considerations that can help to achieve the best resul
