[Influence of different type of toothbrushes on the incidence of enamel demineralization and gingivitis in the course of orthodontic treatment].

The aim of the study was to determine the likelihood and frequency of complications, the impact of the use of various types of toothbrushes in the dynamics of orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances in patients with a distal permanent bite. The clinical study was conducted on 63 patients of both sexes, aged 11-18 years. Patients received long-term orthodontic treatment for a close tooth position with a distal permanent bite (K07.2) and cleft palate and lip (Q37.1). Three groups were conditionally distinguished depending on the type of toothbrush used for individual oral hygiene: group 1 (n

Evidence for the occurrence of gingival recession and non-carious cervical lesions as a consequence of traumatic toothbrushing.

AIM: To identify the best available evidence for the effect of toothbrushing on the initiation and progression of gingival recession and non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs). METHODS: A protocol was developed for the questions: Does traumatic toothbrushing, compared to normal toothbrushing, lead to an increased prevalence of non-inflammatory gingival recession? [FQ1] and NCCLs? [FQ2]. The search covered four electronic databases. Bibliographies of review articles, relevant texts, World and European Workshops were screened. Hand searches were performed of the Journals of Clinical Periodontolog

Toothbrush abrasion of surface softened enamel studied with tapping mode AFM and AFM nanoindentation.

The aim of the present in vitro study was to investigate the toothbrush abrasion of surface softened enamel using tapping mode atomic force microscopy (TM-AFM) and AFM nanoindentation. TM-AFM investigations showed that the typical prismatic pattern as observed after demineralisation was retained after toothbrushing. The exposure to artificial saliva resulted in the deposition of a 'sausage-shape' material with random orientation. Brushing of these samples did not lead to a complete removal of this deposited material. Enamel mineral loss increased with increasing demineralisation time and incre

Comparison of the clinical effectiveness of a single and a triple-headed toothbrushes in a population of mentally retarded patients.

Tooth brushing is a very simple and effective method for removing daily dental deposits and for preventing dental and periodontal diseases. However, it can cause considerable manipulative difficulties among some populations, e.g., young children, physically handicapped and mentally retarded patients. In order to test and compare the efficiency of a newly designed toothbrush (Superbrush), we have performed a pilot study on patients staying at the "Reine Fabiola Village No. 1", an institution for patients who are followed for mental retardation at different levels. 30 patients were included in t

In Vitro Evaluation of Manual, Electric, and Sonic Toothbrushing on Composite Restoration Surface Properties and Retention in Primary Teeth.

Background: The longevity of composite restorations in primary teeth depends on the preservation of both mechanical performance and surface integrity under daily oral hygiene procedures. While powered toothbrushes have been widely investigated for plaque control, their potential effects on restorative materials in the primary dentition remain insufficiently characterized. This preliminary in vitro study evaluated the influence of manual, oscillating-rotating electric, and sonic toothbrushing on the surface microhardness, surface roughness, and shear resistance of resin composite restorations i
