PURPOSE: In recent years, second-look transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT) has been recommended for patients with stage T1 bladder cancer after the initial TURBT for restaging and deciding the subsequent treatment. However, we believe that second-look TURBT has therapeutic benefits, such as low incidence of recurrence and progression. Therefore, we compare the differences in long-term outcome between patients who did and did not accept second-look TURBT for stage T1 bladder cancer.
METHODS: We assessed 504 patients diagnosed with urothelial carcinoma who underwent initial TURBT b

INTRODUCTION: Obturator nerve reflex (ONR) remains a relevant intraoperative challenge during transurethral resection (TUR) of lateral wall bladder tumors (LWBT), even with bipolar technology. Identifying patients at increased risk may improve surgical safety and decision-making.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 737 patients who underwent bipolar TUR between July 2019 and October 2025. Patients with LWBT were grouped according to the intraoperative occurrence of ONR. Demographic, tumor-related, and perioperative variables were compared. ROC analyses and multivariable logistic

Bladder neck contracture (BNC) is a recognized complication after transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) (0.5%-10%). While endoscopic treatment is first-line, obliterative BNC not amenable to guidewire passage often recurs. We report a 66-year-old male with BNC 1 year after TURP, initially managed with suprapubic cystostomy (SPC). As the contracture was complete, robotic-assisted Y-V plasty was performed. The bladder was mobilised, fibrotic tissue excised, and a vascularised anterior flap was advanced under cystoscopic and indocyanine green guidance. Recovery was uneventful. At 1 year, the

PURPOSE: To evaluate the impact of maximal transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) on perioperative outcomes following radical cystectomy (RC).
METHODS: This study included 310 patients who underwent RC for the diagnosis of bladder urothelial carcinoma. Of these, 146 patients had a history of maximal TURBT (TURBT group) and 164 did not (non-TURBT group). Patients in the TURBT group were categorized into four groups according to the time interval between the last TURBT and RC: ≤ 1 month, 1-3 months, 3-6 months, and > 6 months. Additionally, the TURBT group was stratified into a single

OBJECTIVES: To assess the impact of cTURBT on pathologic response. Secondary endpoints involved survival and oncologic outcomes.
METHODS: Tertiary centre data from patients with MIBC submitted to NAC and radical cystectomy between March 2010 and November 2022 was retrospectively analysed. Patients with complete resection (cTURBT) before NAC were compared to those with incomplete (iTURBT).
RESULTS: Thirty-seven patients were included in this study. NAC regime was identical between groups. cTURBT group demonstrated a higher rate of downstaging than the iTURBT group (50% vs 20%, p = 0.022). Dur

PURPOSE: Non-muscle invasive bladder cancers (NMIBC) constitute approximately 75% of bladder cancer cases. Primary transurethral resection (TUR) plays a pivotal role in both diagnosis and treatment. However, despite initial resection, tumors are often missed, leaving behind microscopic residual tumors. This study aims to prospectively investigate the surgical margins of tumors, which may serve as a potential source of residual tumors.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy patients diagnosed with NMIBC who underwent primary TUR were enrolled in this study. Following initial resection, samples were co

BACKGROUND: Perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa) is a mesenchymal tumor with distinct histologic and immunologic features. PEComas that originate in the bladder are extremely rare clinically, with only 35 cases reported in the English literature thus far. Here, we report a case of bladder PEComa resection by transurethral en bloc resection of bladder tumor (ERBT).
CASE PRESENTATION: A 66-year-old female with a history of poorly controlled type 2 diabetes with associated complications of frequent urinary tract infections presented to our hospital for a routine physical examination. Out

BACKGROUND: Bladder cancer is the second most common malignancy of the urinary tract and the 9th worldwide. Latin American has an incidence of 5.6 per 100,000 inhabitants per year. Seventy-five percent of newly diagnosed cases are nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer, and 25% of cases present as muscle invasive. The mainstay of treatment for nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer is loop transurethral resection. In 2013, the group led by Dr Mundhenk of the University Hospital of Tübingen, Germany, was the first to describe the Hybrid Knife(®) equipment for performing en bloc bladder tumour resection,

The most common reactions to mitomycin C are dysuria and drug-related palmar and genital desquamation. This report describes two cases of delayed healing of the mucosa at resection sites after transurethral resection of bladder tumours, most likely due to immediate postoperative mitomycin C instillation of the bladder.

We present a case of a man in his late 70s with a history of peritonitis and vesical stones who developed severe complications after undergoing the transurethral resection of a bladder tumour (TURBT) followed by immediate mitomycin C (MMC) instillation. The patient experienced abdominal pain and haematuria and was subsequently diagnosed with pancytopenia and extraperitoneal bladder rupture. He later developed a urinary tract infection, leading to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus-related septic pulmonary embolism (SPE). Despite intensive care efforts, his condition deteriorated, culm

OBJECTIVE: En bloc transurethral resection of bladder tumor (ERBT) for nonmuscular-invasive bladder tumor (NMIBC) has been used in clinical practice, but its efficacy and safety have not been conclusional. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ERBT and conventional transurethral resection of bladder tumor (cTURBT) for NMIBC.
METHODS: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing ERBT and cTURBT in the treatment of NMIBC were searched in Pubmed, Embase, Clinicaltrials.gov, and Cochrane; 12 RCTs were included for systematic review and meta-analysis using RevMan 5.4.

The recurrence rate following endoscopic treatment of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) remains high. Standard treatment includes intravesical instillation of chemotoxic agents such as mitomycin C (MMC) to reduce recurrence. It is postulated that upfront administration of hyperthermic intravesical MMC (HIVEC) immediately after transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT) may enhance its efficacy, but evidence from human trials is scant. This pilot study explored the safety of immediate intravesical MMC instillation following TURBT using a conductive HIVEC system (Combat BRS). Pat
