Gastroduodenal tuberculosis is infrequently seen in day-to-day clinical practice with few cases reported in the literature. It is usually associated with features of gastric outlet obstruction. This is a case series of 4 patients with 2 of them having associated lower gastrointestinal involvement. One of them resembled a growth in the cardia of the stomach which responded to antitubercular drugs. Another had duodenal erosions with portal lymph node enlargement which responded to antitubercular drug treatment. None of the patients required surgical management. Gastroduodenal tuberculosis should

Tuberculosis is a global epidemic infection that typically presents with symptoms affecting the respiratory system. Abdominal tuberculosis is an uncommon manifestation, occurring in only 5% of tuberculosis cases globally and can present with a broad range of vague symptoms that mimic other biliary and pancreatic pathologies. We report a case of a 36-year-old woman presenting with jaundice and biliary obstruction secondary to abdominal tuberculosis. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography revealed a loculated retroperitoneal mass abutting the pancreatic head and duod

INTRODUCTION: Tuberculosis in Europe is a health public problem, which has increased constantly over the last few decades. The most common clinical manifestation of tuberculosis is pulmonary. The diagnosis of extrapulmonary tuberculosis can be challenging and clinical manifestations of gastrointestinal tuberculosis are unspecific and can mimic other pathologies.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A young Chinese man, who had recently been diagnosed with Crohn's disease, was admitted to the emergency room of our hospital with a one-month history of diffuse abdominal pain and weight loss. The patient initia

Understanding host-pathogen interactions between Mycobacterium bovis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis is critical for elucidating pathogen-specific infection dynamics. This pilot study was designed to compare the progression of infection in mice following inoculation with M. bovis or M. tuberculosis via intratracheal or oral gavage routes. We utilized the C3H/HeJ strain, a susceptible mouse model that exhibits severe pulmonary inflammation and poor bacterial control, a valuable tool for studying the spectrum of tuberculosis infection. Direct pulmonary inoculation of M. bovis was associated with

Tuberculosis of the colon commonly involves the ascending, transverse, or sigmoid colon while rectal involvement in tuberculosis is uncommon and poorly characterized. We report a six-year-old male from Nepal who presented with abdominal pain and difficulty passing stool for two years. On per rectal examination, palpation revealed a circumferential rectal mass. On further evaluation, CT scan showed mural thickening and luminal narrowing in the ano-rectum. Colonoscopy with biopsy showed caseating granuloma and positive acid fast bacilli culture consistent with tuberculosis. After starting anti-tu

BACKGROUND: Isolated gastric tuberculosis is extremely rare, especially in the subcardiac region, where the low pH, high motility and absence of lymphoid tissue result in an unfavourable environment for the development of tuberculous lesions.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Here we present a case of isolated gastric tuberculosis in the gastric cardia with no evidence of pulmonary involvement. Our patient was a young man with vague gastrointestinal symptoms and no previous history of tuberculosis. His condition was first detected on upper endoscopy as a raised subcardiac ulcer similar in appearance to a

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Gastrointestinal tuberculosis predominantly affects the ileocecal region, while isolated left colonic involvement remains rare. Its nonspecific clinical, radiological, and endoscopic features frequently mimic colorectal cancer or inflammatory bowel disease, making diagnosis challenging. Acute large bowel obstruction secondary to left colonic tuberculosis is uncommon and may necessitate emergency surgery before a definitive diagnosis is made. Histopathological examination remains essential for confirmation, and early recognition allows prompt anti-tuberculous treatm

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly among patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Esophageal involvement is an exceedingly rare manifestation of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. Owing to its clinical and endoscopic features, it may mimic neoplastic disease, thereby complicating early diagnosis. We present the case of an immunocompromised patient with constitutional symptoms and dysphagia. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a large ulcerated esophageal lesion highly suggestive of malignancy; however, histopathological

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) has been associated with both infective or non-infective aetiologies. GBS is usually preceded by acute respiratory or gastrointestinal infection but its association with tuberculosis has been exceptionally reported. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is associated with clinical manifestations involving the neurological system, peripheral neuropathy is known to be related to IBD and, either demyelinating or axonal involvement of peripheral nerves have been described. We report an unusual case of GBS associated with lymph node tuberculosis and ulcerative colitis.

The aim of this work was to study the frequency and structure of chronic splanchnopathies and their influence on the outcome of lung tuberculosis. Comorbidity was investigated in 1229 patients attending a regional TB dispensary. Pathogens isolated in 44.5% of the cases included 16.5% drug-resistant strains; certain patients (7%) developed drug resistance unrelated to the presence or absence of somatic pathology. Half of the patients (40.5%) had tuberculosis concomitant with chronic non-specific diseases; each third patient had several such diseases including gastrointestinal disorders in 28.2%

The present study described 2 cases of patients with duodenal tuberculosis. Case 1 was a 55 year-old Japanese male patient with pulmonary tuberculosis and past medical history of subtotal gastrectomy (Billroth II reconstruction). Tubercle bacilli were positive both on smear and culture from his sputum and feces. Because of complaining right hypochondralgia, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was performed and revealed multiple ringed ulcers in the afferent limb of duodenum. Histopathological study of biopsy specimen demonstrated granulomatous inflammation as well as acid-fast bacilli confirmed b

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Intestinal tuberculosis (TB) comprises of about 5 % of all cases of tuberculosis in susceptible communities. Intestinal tuberculosis establishes itself in the lymphoid follicles of the Peyer's patches and spreads to the submucosal and subserosal planes. A gastroduodenal location for TB is very rare even in patients with pulmonary TB and gastroduodenal TB lesions are usually secondary.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 48 year old Ethiopian patient presented with non-bilious, non-projectile vomiting of ingested matter which progressively worsens over time. Associated with this

In countries with a high incidence of tuberculosis, the typical clinical features of Crohn's disease (CD) may be covered up after tuberculosis infection, and the identification of atypical Crohn's disease and intestinal tuberculosis (ITB) is still a dilemma for clinicians. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression has been applied to select variables in disease diagnosis. However, its value in discriminating ITB and atypical Crohn's disease remains unknown. A total of 400 patients were enrolled from January 2014 to January 2019 in second Xiangya hospital Central South

Tuberculosis with the incidence 28-29/100000 residents still presents a major public health problem in Croatia. Miliary tuberculosis is uncommon cause of fever of unknown origin. Intestinal tuberculosis pose as diagnostic problem that can be identified by colonoscopy and/or explorative laparatomy involving histopathology and microbiology. A case is reported of a 40-year-old HIV negative patient admitted to the Department of Infectious Diseases after two weeks of fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain and weight loss. Biochemistry testing showed mild elevation of the erythrocyte sedimentation rate and

Tuberculosis of the stomach is quite rare, both as a primary or secondary infection. It has varied presentation ranging from non-specific abdominal pain and constitutional symptoms to hematemesis, gastric outlet obstruction and pyrexia of unknown origin. Here, we report a rare, interesting case of locally advanced gastric tuberculosis, which morphologically mimicked liver abscess initially in a young, immunocompetent patient presenting with fever and abdominal pain. The disease was diagnosed by GeneXpert MTB/RIF assay, and responded well to antituberculosis medication without surgery. Clinicia
