[Studies on tryptophan metabolism in calcium oxalate urolithiasis].

In 90 patients with calcium oxalate urolithiasis an oral tryptophan-loading test with 5 g L-tryptophan was performed and the 24-hour urinary excretion of xanthurenic acid and kynurenine was measured. In 10 cases pathological deviations and an excretion pattern of tryptophan metabolites via kynurenine similar as in the hereditary vitamin-B6-dependent xanthurenic aciduria in homozygous or heterozygous from were found. Correlations between the oxalate excretion and the tryptophan metabolism do not exist. A 2-year therapy with 60 mg vitamin B6 was favourable in patients with an excretion of more t

Struvite urolithiasis in a litter of miniature Schnauzer dogs.

Magnesium ammonium phosphate calculi developed in the urinary bladders and urethras of four of five offspring of Miniature Schnauzer parents with recurrent struvite urolithiasis. Calculi were detected by radiograhy when the dogs were 12 to 15 months old. Males and females were affected. A significant number of urease-producing staphylococci were identified in the urine of three of four dogs before urolith formation, and in one dog after urolith formation. The dogs were evaluated until they were 26 months old. Serum concentrations of calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium were inside usual limits t

Urolithiasis-related ureteric intussusception: A rare case report.

Ureteral intussusception is a rare condition that historically occurs as a complication of ureteral neoplasms or iatrogenic endoscopic procedures. Although the exact mechanism of ureteral intussusception is unclear, most reported cases are due to leading points as malignant or benign masses. Urolithiasis related is rarely reported and can be challenging in stone management as it might decrease the spontaneous stone passage rate. In addition, it will increase the complexity of the endoscopic stone management. We present the second reported case of urolithiasis-related ureteric intussusception p

High risk and low prevalence diseases: Infected urolithiasis.

INTRODUCTION: Infected urolithiasis is a serious condition that carries with it a high rate of morbidity and mortality. OBJECTIVE: This review highlights the pearls and pitfalls of infected urolithiasis, including presentation, diagnosis, and management in the emergency department based on current evidence. DISCUSSION: Although urolithiasis is common and the vast majority can be treated conservatively, the presence of a concomitant urinary tract infection significantly increases the risk of morbidity, to include sepsis and mortality. Identification of infected urolithiasis can be challenging

Pediatric urolithiasis: what can pediatricians expect from radiologists?

The incidence of urolithiasis in children has increased over the two last decades. Urolithiasis formation results from urine oversaturation following insufficient water intake, urinary obstruction (notably in cases of congenital uropathies), excess production of an insoluble compound, or imbalance between crystallization promoters and inhibitors. Whereas most urolithiases in adults occur secondary to environmental factors, in children, secondary causes are far more frequent, and 15% are related to genetic causes, most often monogenic. This is especially true in recurrent forms, with early and

Double J stenting evaluation after ureteroscopy for urolithiasis.

OBJECTIVES: During ureteroscopy for urolithiasis, postoperative ureteral drainage with double J stent is frequently used. It may reduce acute postoperative pain and late ureteral stenosis. Double J stent can have negative impact on life quality. After uncomplicated intervention, double J stent is not mandatory. Objective of our study was to evaluate pain and complications after ureteroscopy with or without stent. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed ureteroscopy performed between May 2014 and January 2017. Interventions were compared regarding ureteral drainage with double J stent or not. Our

The roles of bacteria on urolithiasis progression and associated compounds.

As a common urological disease, the formation of urinary tract stones involves multiple factors, including genetics, the environment, dietary habits, and bacterial species (e.g., Proteus mirabilis and Escherichia coli). Previous studies have demonstrated that P. mirabilis primarily contributes to infectious urinary calculus formation by producing urease, an enzyme that breaks down urea into ammonia and carbon dioxide, thereby altering the urinary pH and promoting crystal formation and growth. In contrast, calcium oxalate (CaOx) stones are the main type of kidney stones, and the most common bac

A Case of Urinary Extravasation and Urolithiasis During Pregnancy.

Renal pelvis rupture during pregnancy is rare. Although the most common cause is urolithiasis, no cases of pregnant women with ureterorenal stones have been reported. We report on a 33-year-old pregnant woman with renal pelvis rupture and a stone at the ureteropelvic junction with an abrupt onset of severe flank pain at 37 weeks' gestation. Transabdominal ultrasonography revealed bilateral hydroureters with right predominance and an anechoic space around the right kidney. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a renal stone at the ureteropelvic junction of the right kidney, a low-density area aroun

Microfilaria in achylous hematuria: Can it imitate urolithiasis?

Wuchereria bancrofti is the major species resulting in filarial cases in India. Filariasis may present with various clinical presentations: asymptomatic, microfilaremia, lymphedema, acute adenolymphangitis and chronic lymphatic disease. Microfilariae of W. bancrofti have been detected in various clinical samples, but incidental detection of microfilaria in achylous urine is a rare finding with unexplained pathology. We report a case of microfilaria in achylous urine of a 30-year-old female who presented with pain abdomen and ureteric calculus on ultrasonography.

[Therapeutic options of obstructive urolithiasis in small ruminants].

The diagnosis of obstructive urolithiasis in small ruminants frequently results in a multitude of decisions that have to be made by the consulted practitioner. Factors that influence the decision for therapy (or euthanasia) are the type of the animal's use, economic aspects and specific options of the veterinarian practice as well as emotional aspects depending on the owners of small ruminants kept as companion animals. The present article aims to present the currently available methods of therapy to facilitate a decision by the practicing veterinarian based on the present state of the science

Stoned-A Syndrome of D-Lactic Acidosis and Urolithiasis.

Short bowel syndrome (SBS) can lead to many complications related to the condition and its therapy. We describe 2 children with SBS who we believe are the second and third patients documented to have experienced both D-lactic acidosis and urolithiasis. We review aspects of these SBS complications and recent findings on the microbiome of patients with SBS that may predispose to these complications.

[Features of urolithiasis in patients of advanced and senile age.].

There were 105 patients of different gender of elderly and senile age with urolithiasis. The entire contingent of patients with ICD was divided into 2 groups: the main group (55 people aged 61-85 years) and the comparison group (50 people aged 40-60). All patients went throught a general clinical examination: a detailed history of the anamnesis, an objective examination, laboratory and instrumental methods of investigation. It was revealed that in patients of elderly and senile age the clinical picture is more worn out, the renal colic is less often registered; more significant metabolic disor

A child with atypical celiac disease and recurrent urolithiasis.

A young boy with prior constipation developed recurrent severe calcium phosphate kidney calculi, sometimes sufficient to cause acute kidney failure and hydronephrosis. After several major surgeries, food allergies were determined by serum immunoglobulin E testing, and when he finally went on a gluten-free diet, he stopped forming calculi and has had no surgeries related to kidney calculi since. Hyperoxaluria was not identified in this child by 24-hour urine analysis, unlike most other reports of kidney calculus formation in individuals with gluten intolerance.
