BACKGROUND: In Tamil Nadu, where health indicators are above the national average and routine immunization coverage is >95%, the tepid response to Measles-Rubella (MR) mass vaccination campaign was unexpected. Several parents refused MR vaccine for their children, due to false news claiming inefficiency and adverse effects due to the vaccine.
AIM: This study was conducted to assess the Measles-Rubella (MR) mass vaccination coverage and to know the motivating factors and barriers for vaccination.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a rural area immediately following the mass vac

BACKGROUND: Kansas falls consistently below average for adolescent vaccination of meningococcal (MCV), human papillomavirus (HPV), and influenza.
METHODS: For this study, the members of Kansas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics were emailed a confidential electronic survey soliciting their impressions of vaccination in their practice.
RESULTS: Of 137 providers emailed, 61 (45%) completed the survey. Thirteen providers were excluded as they did not see/vaccinate adolescents or did not complete the survey. Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap), and MCV vaccines were most commonly up

OBJECTIVE: To assess provider attitudes and practices regarding vaccination in pregnancy to discern strategies to increase vaccination rates in pregnancy, given that in the USA, various healthcare organizations recommend that pregnant individuals be vaccinated against influenza, pertussis, and SARS-CoV-2, but vaccination rates among gravidas remain suboptimal across these vaccines.
METHODS: An Institutional Review Board-approved survey was disseminated to obstetric healthcare providers by email from June through October 2021. Questions assessed provider demographics, attitudes, and practices

Objectives Vitamin K deficiency bleeding (VKDB) in infants is a coagulopathy preventable with a single dose of injectable vitamin K at birth. The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) investigated vitamin K refusal among parents in 2013 after learning of four cases of VKDB associated with prophylaxis refusal. Methods Chart reviews were conducted at Nashville-area hospitals for 2011-2013 and Tennessee birthing centers for 2013 to identify parents who had refused injectable vitamin K for their infants. Contact information was obtained for paren

BACKGROUND: No studies have examined associations between prenatal vaccination and childhood vaccination. Mothers who refuse influenza vaccinations during pregnancy report similar attitudes and beliefs to those who refuse vaccinations for their children. The objective of this study was to examine the association between self-reported prenatal influenza vaccination and early childhood vaccination.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted with existing surveillance data from 4022 mothers who responded to the 2009-2011 Minnesota Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System survey and c

The study objective was to determine the rate of failures to present for routine childhood immunization due to either parental vaccine refusal, failure to comply with the immunization schedule and real or false contraindications. The rate of use of alternative vaccines which can be provided within the routine immunization schedule either on parental request or when recommended by the physician was also determined. We analyzed records of 5,038 children born between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2004 and registered with a sample of general practitioners. We identified 1,284 cases (25.5 %) of

BACKGROUND: World Health Organization (WHO) mentioned COVID-19 vaccination as the safest way to eradicate this pandemic. In the meantime, vaccine hesitancy (a delay in accepting or rejecting the vaccine despite the availability of vaccination services) is a barrier. Hence, we studied this obstacle in the Iranian multiple sclerosis (MS) population.
OBJECTIVE: MS patients eligible for vaccination were asked to complete a google form survey. Demographic information, MS disease-related factors, flu vaccination history, COVID-19 vaccination history, cause of vaccination refusal, past history of CO

Serological surveillance for vaccine-preventable diseases, such as measles and rubella, can provide direct measures of population immunity across age groups, identify gaps in immunity, and document changes in immunity over time. Rigorously conducted, representative household serosurveys provide high-quality estimates with minimal bias. However, they can be logistically challenging, expensive, and have higher refusal rates than vaccine coverage surveys. This article shares lessons learned through implementing nine measles and rubella household serosurveys in five districts in India-the challeng

Since the emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), Japan has offered free pediatric vaccination; however, coverage among children has remained low. Children with heart disease are considered to have a higher risk of developing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) complications. This study aimed to investigate the attitudes of caregivers toward SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in this population. A questionnaire survey was conducted at 16 medical facilities between October 2023 and January 2024 among caregivers of children with heart disease aged 1 to 19 years. A total of 1142

Introduction: Vaccination is among the most important areas of progress in the worldwide history of public health. However, a crescent wave of anti-vaccine groups has grown in Western countries, especially in Italy, in the last two decades. Our aim was to evaluate adult's hesitancy and knowledge about vaccines and related diseases in Trentino-Alto Adige -the Italian region with the lowest vaccination coverages. Methods: We administered self-answered structured questionnaires in three malls in the Trentino province in June 2019. We collected demographic data and information on knowledge about v

INTRODUCTION: The influenza virus produces everything from seasonal epidemics to unexpected pandemics, making its prevention and management a worldwide public health challenge. The main method to prevent and control seasonal influenza is vaccination. Children responded quite successfully to influenza vaccinations, particularly live vaccines. Despite the strong recommendations and effectiveness of seasonal influenza vaccinations in children, some parents still hesitate and refuse to give their children the shot.
OBJECTIVE: This study, given the importance of knowing the factors that contribute

Starting September 1992, an outbreak of poliomyelitis occurred in the Netherlands. Until now a total of 67 cases have been notified. These were the first indigenous cases since 1978. None of the patients had been vaccinated before, and all but one belong to small Protestant groups that refuse vaccination for religious reasons. The age of the patients varies from several days to 61 years (mean age 19) and the male to female ratio is 1.6:1.0. The epidemic is caused by wild poliovirus type 3. Partial genomic sequencing showed closest resemblance to a virus isolated in India in 1991. The epidemiol

The results of vaccination against hepatitis B among health-care workers in "Sestre Milosrdnice" University Hospital are presented. Out of 1884 health-care workers 920 (48.8%) were tested for serum HbsAg, as well as anti-HBs and anti-HBc antibodies. There were 111 (12.1%) persons with one or more positive HBV markers. Seven of them (0.8%) were HBV (HbsA-positive) carriers, and 104 (11.3%) had positive anti-HBc and/or anti-HBs. A significant difference of frequency of positive HBV markers between women and men was not found using the chi 2 test for statistical analysis. The vaccination was star

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic showed that effective pandemic prevention may require repeated vaccination. However, booster uptake can be influenced by psychosocial factors, particularly during a prolonged public health crisis.
OBJECTIVE: This study examined factors associated with adults' willingness to receive an additional COVID-19 vaccine dose in Hong Kong.
METHODS: Data were drawn from the fourth-wave follow-up survey of a longitudinal study and analyzed cross-sectionally using multinomial logistic regression.
RESULTS: A total of 689 participants were analyzed: 401 (58.2%) were will

INTRODUCTION: The measles virus is a major human pathogen responsible for approximately 150,000 deaths annually. The disease is vaccine preventable and eradication of the virus is considered feasible, in principle. However, a herd immunity exceeding 95% is required to prevent sporadic viral outbreaks in a population. Declining disease prevalence, combined with public anxiety over the vaccination's safety, has led to increased vaccine refusal, especially in Europe. This has led to the resurgence of measles in some areas.
AREAS COVERED: This article discusses whether synergizing effective measl

The rapid diffusion of the jennerian method was founded in simplicity to practice, in its apparent effectiveness in combating smallpox and its epidemiological opportunity, as it appeared at the time of greatest recrudescence of the disease. The initial impulse for it's propagation, which originated a recognized movement to protect population health, was not without controversy. At the same time that defenders of the vaccine were added, opposite opinions appeared that used diverse critics to discredit it. The most common was to reveal their alleged failures using the media of the time, so cases

A number of states, starting with California, have recently removed all non-medical exemptions from their laws requiring vaccinations for schoolchildren. California was also one of the earliest states to include a broad non-medical, or personal, belief exemption in its modern immunization law, which it did with a 1961 law mandating polio vaccination for school enrollment, Assembly Bill 1940 (AB 1940). This paper examines the history of AB 1940's exemption clause as a case study for shedding light on the little-examined history of the personal belief exemption to vaccination in the United State

BACKGROUND: Human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination rates in the United States remain low, compared with other recommended adolescent vaccines. We compared factors associated with intention to receive and receipt of HPV and meningococcal vaccines and completion of the HPV vaccine series among U.S. adolescent girls.
METHODS: Secondary analysis of data from the National Immunization Survey-Teen for 2008 through 2012 was performed. Multivariable logistic modeling was used to determine factors associated with intent to receive and receipt of HPV and meningococcal vaccination, completion of the HP
