Optimising technology to measure functional vision, mobility and service outcomes for people with low vision or blindness: protocol for a prospective cohort study in Australia and Malaysia.

INTRODUCTION: Orientation and mobility (O&M) specialists assess the functional vision and O&M skills of people with mobility problems, usually relating to low vision or blindness. There are numerous O&M assessment checklists but no measures that reduce qualitative assessment data to a single comparable score suitable for assessing any O&M client, of any age or ability, in any location. Functional measures are needed internationally to align O&M assessment practices, guide referrals, profile O&M clients, plan appropriate services and evaluate outcomes from O&M programmes (eg, long cane training

An Empirical Evaluation of Low-Rank Adapted Vision-Language Models for Radiology Image Captioning.

Rapidly growing medical imaging volumes have increased radiologist workloads, creating demand for automated tools that support interpretation and reduce reporting delays. Vision-language models (VLMs) can generate clinically relevant captions to accelerate report drafting, yet their varying parameter scales require systematic evaluation for clinical utility. This study evaluated ten multimodal models fine-tuned on the Radiology Objects in Context version 2 (ROCOv2) dataset containing 116,635 images across eight modalities. We compared four Large VLMs (LVLMs) including LLaVA variants and IDEFIC

Cost-Associated Unmet Dental, Vision, And Hearing Needs Among Low-Income Medicare Advantage Beneficiaries.

Medicare Advantage (MA) supplemental benefits offered at no or low premiums are a key value proposition for low-income beneficiaries. Despite nearly $20 billion in rebate payments to MA plans for funding supplemental benefits, their quality or enrollee access is not monitored. Using 2018-19 Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey data linked to MA plan data, we found that regardless of plan benefit generosity, low-income beneficiaries were more likely to report dental, vision, and hearing unmet needs because of cost. Enrollment in plans with higher corresponding-year (that is, the same year as unm

Vision-Based Detection of Low-Emission Sources in Suburban Areas Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.

The paper discusses the problem of detecting emission sources in a low buildings area using unmanned aerial vehicles. The problem was analyzed, and methods of solving it were presented. Various data acquisition scenarios and their impact on the feasibility of the task were analyzed. A method for detecting smoke objects over buildings using stationary video sequences acquired with a drone in hover with the camera in the nadir position is proposed. The method uses differential frame information from stabilized video sequences and the YOLOv7 classifier. A convolutional network classifier was used
