A new approach to phonocardiogram severity analysis.

Phonocardiogram signal (PCG) has been the subject of several signal processing studies, where researchers applied various analysis techniques and extracted numerous features for different purposes, like cardiac pathologies identification, healthy/pathologic case discrimination, and severity assessment. When talking about cardiac severity, many think directly about the intensity or energy of the signal as the most reliable parameter. However, cardiac severity is not always reflected by the intensity or energy of the signal but includes other variables as well. In this paper, we will discuss the

Automated Detection of Hypertension Using Continuous Wavelet Transform and a Deep Neural Network with Ballistocardiography Signals.

Managing hypertension (HPT) remains a significant challenge for humanity. Despite advancements in blood pressure (BP)-measuring systems and the accessibility of effective and safe anti-hypertensive medicines, HPT is a major public health concern. Headaches, dizziness and fainting are common symptoms of HPT. In HPT patients, normalcy may be observed at one instant and abnormality may prevail during a long duration of 24 h ambulatory BP. This may cause difficulty in identifying patients with HPT, and hence there is a possibility that individuals may be untreated or administered insufficiently. M

A novel wavelet decomposition and transformation convolutional neural network with data augmentation for breast cancer detection using digital mammogram.

Research in deep learning (DL) has continued to provide significant solutions to the challenges of detecting breast cancer in digital images. Image preprocessing methods and architecture enhancement techniques have been proposed to improve the performance of DL models such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs). For instance, the wavelet decomposition function has been used for image feature extraction in CNNs due to its strong compactness. Additionally, CNN architectures have been optimized to improve the process of feature detection to support the classification process. However, these appr

CWT Based Transfer Learning for Motor Imagery Classification for Brain computer Interfaces.

BACKGROUND: The processing of brain signals for Motor imagery (MI) classification to have better accuracy is a key issue in the Brain-Computer Interface (BCI). While conventional methods like Artificial neural network (ANN), Linear discernment analysis (LDA), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Support vector machine (SVM), etc. have made significant progress in terms of classification accuracy, deep transfer learning-based systems have shown the potential to outperform them. BCI can play a vital role in enabling communication with the external world for persons with motor disabilities. NEW METHODS: De

Learning pyramidal multi-scale harmonic wavelets for identifying the neuropathology propagation patterns of Alzheimer's disease.

Previous studies have established that neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a disconnection syndrome, where the neuropathological burdens often propagate across the brain network to interfere with the structural and functional connections. In this context, identifying the propagation patterns of neuropathological burdens sheds new light on understanding the pathophysiological mechanism of AD progression. However, little attention has been paid to propagation pattern identification by fully considering the intrinsic properties of brain-network organization, which plays

Quantifying spatiotemporal properties of vocal fold dynamics based on a multiscale analysis of phonovibrograms.

In order to objectively assess the laryngeal vibratory behavior, endoscopic high-speed cameras capture several thousand frames per second of the vocal folds during phonation. However, judging all inherent clinically relevant features is a challenging task and requires well-founded expert knowledge. In this study, an automated wavelet-based analysis of laryngeal high-speed videos based on phonovibrograms is presented. The phonovibrogram is an image representation of the spatiotemporal pattern of vocal fold vibration and constitutes the basis for a computer-based analysis of laryngeal dynamics.

Fine-Grained and Multiple Classification for Alzheimer's Disease With Wavelet Convolution Unit Network.

In this article, we propose a novel wavelet convolution unit for the image-oriented neural network to integrate wavelet analysis with a vanilla convolution operator to extract deep abstract features more efficiently. On one hand, in order to acquire non-local receptive fields and avoid information loss, we define a new convolution operation by composing a traditional convolution function and approximate and detailed representations after single-scale wavelet decomposition of source images. On the other hand, multi-scale wavelet decomposition is introduced to obtain more comprehensive multi-sca

[Wavelet representation of corneal topography data after nonmechanical penetrating keratoplasty--a clinical study].

BACKGROUND: Corneal surface irregularities may limit the visual outcome after penetrating keratoplasty (PK). Corneal topographers mainly render empirically derived and system-specific statistical indices for characterization of superficial inhomogeneities which may lack clinical evidence and make inter-system comparisons difficult. The purpose of this study was to detect and quantify focal surface irregularities of the cornea after nonmechanical PK by 2-dimensional wavelet decomposition based on corneal topography data. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Our study included 15 patients with keratoconus and

Noise-Induced Cross-Modal Information Interaction and Dual-Prompt Learning for Medical Image Segmentation.

Accurate medical image segmentation plays a vital role in clinical diagnostics by facilitating the precise delineation of anatomical structures and pathological regions. However, the performance of existing segmentation methods is often constrained by the scarcity of high-quality annotated datasets, as manual labeling is both labor-intensive and reliant on domain-specific expertise. To address this limitation without requiring additional annotations, we propose a novel multimodal segmentation framework that leverages medical text annotations as an auxiliary modality to complement visual inform

Wavelet-Based Spectral Feature Gating for Near-Infrared Remote Photoplethysmography Estimation.

Near-infrared (NIR) video-based remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) enables physiological measurement under low-light conditions using monochrome facial videos. NIR videos lack chrominance-based cues, while weak cardiac variations remain entangled with motion, illumination, and imaging noise. To address these limitations, we propose a wavelet-based spectral feature gating (WSFG) module for NIR-based rPPG estimation. The WSFG module applies a two-level stationary wavelet transform (SWT) to decompose intermediate temporal features without temporal downsampling. Specifically, learnable spectral ga

QWNet: A quaternion wavelet network for spatial-frequency aware multi-modal image fusion.

Multi-modal Image Fusion (MMIF) enhances visual tasks by combining the strengths of different image modalities to improve object visibility and texture details. However, existing methods face two major challenges: First, a lack of intrinsic frequency-domain awareness, relying heavily on complex filters and fusion techniques that can be less adaptive. Second, simplistic channel combination that overlooks essential complex inter-channel relationships. To address these issues, we propose QWNet, a novel Quaternion Wavelet Network that harnesses both spatial and frequency information to enhance the

Long-term effects of climate factors on dengue fever over a 40-year period.

BACKGROUND: Dengue fever stands as one of the most extensively disseminated mosquito-borne infectious diseases worldwide. While numerous studies have investigated its influencing factors, a gap remains in long-term analysis, impeding the identification of temporal patterns, periodicity in transmission, and the development of effective prevention and control strategies. Thus, we aim to analyze the periodicity of dengue fever incidence and explore the association between various climate factors and the disease over an extended time series. METHODS: By utilizing monthly dengue fever cases and cl

"Where does it hurt?": Exploring EDA Signals to Detect and Localise Acute Pain.

Pain is a highly unpleasant sensory experience, for which currently no objective diagnostic test exists to measure it. Identification and localisation of pain, where the subject is unable to communicate, is a key step in enhancing therapeutic outcomes. Numerous studies have been conducted to categorise pain, but no reliable conclusion has been achieved. This is the first study that aims to show a strict relation between Electrodermal Activity (EDA) signal features and the presence of pain and to clarify the relation of classified signals to the location of the pain. For that purpose, EDA signa

Assessment of a 16-Channel Ambulatory Dry Electrode EEG for Remote Monitoring.

Ambulatory EEGs began emerging in the healthcare industry over the years, setting a new norm for long-term monitoring services. The present devices in the market are neither meant for remote monitoring due to their technical complexity nor for meeting clinical setting needs in epilepsy patient monitoring. In this paper, we propose an ambulatory EEG device, OptiEEG, that has low setup complexity, for the remote EEG monitoring of epilepsy patients. OptiEEG's signal quality was compared with a gold standard clinical device, Natus. The experiment between OptiEEG and Natus included three different

Space-CNN: a decision classification method based on EEG signals from different brain regions.

Decision-making plays a critical role in an individual's interpersonal interactions and cognitive processes. Due to the issue of strong subjectivity in the classification research of art design decisions, we utilize the relatively objective electroencephalogram (EEG) to explore design decision problems. However, different regions of the brain do not have the same influence on the design decision classification, so this paper proposes a spatial feature based convolutional neural network (space-CNN) to explore the problem of decision classification of EEG signals from different regions. We recru

Improvement of the Accuracy in the Identification of Coronary Artery Disease Combining Heart Sound Features.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Most researchers use features of diastolic murmurs to identify coronary artery disease. However, the diastolic murmurs of coronary artery disease are usually very weak and are easily contaminated by noise and valvular murmurs. Therefore, the diagnostic accuracy of coronary artery disease when only using diastolic murmurs is not well. An algorithm for improving the accuracy in the identification of coronary artery disease by combining the features of the first heart sound and diastolic murmurs was proposed. Firstly, a first heart sound feature extraction algorithm was used to identify coronary

A deep neural network approach for P300 detection-based BCI using single-channel EEG scalogram images.

Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) acquire electroencephalogram (EEG) signals and interpret them into a command that helps people with severe motor disabilities using single channel. The goal of BCI is to achieve a prototype that supports disabled people to develop the relevant function. Various studies have been implemented in the literature to achieve a superior design using multi-channel EEG signals. This paper proposed a novel framework for the automatic P300 detection-based BCI model using a single EEG electrode. In the present study, we introduced a denoising approach using the bandpass fi

Automated Cytomegalovirus Retinitis Screening in Fundus Images.

This work proposes an automated algorithms for classifying retinal fundus images as cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMVR), normal, and other diseases. Adaptive wavelet packet transform (AWPT) was used to extract features. The retinal fundus images were transformed using a 4-level Haar wavelet packet (WP) transform. The first two best trees were obtained using Shannon and log energy entropy, while the third best tree was obtained using the Daubechies-4 mother wavelet with Shannon entropy. The coefficients of each node were extracted, where the feature value of each leaf node of the best tree was the

A Wavelet Transform-Based Neural Network Denoising Algorithm for Mobile Phonocardiography.

Cardiovascular pathologies cause 23.5% of human deaths, worldwide. An auto-diagnostic system monitoring heart activity, which can identify the early symptoms of cardiac illnesses, might reduce the death rate caused by these problems. Phonocardiography (PCG) is one of the possible techniques able to detect heart problems. Nevertheless, acoustic signal enhancement is required since it is exposed to various disturbances coming from different sources. The most common denoising enhancement is based on the Wavelet Transform (WT). However, the WT is highly susceptible to variations in the noise frequ

Spectrophotometric determination of meclizine hydrochloride and pyridoxine hydrochloride in laboratory prepared mixtures and in their pharmaceutical preparation.

In this paper, three rapid, simple, accurate and precise spectrophotometric methods were developed for the determination of meclizine hydrochloride in the presence of pyridoxine hydrochloride without previous separation. The methods under study are dual wavelength (DWL), ratio difference (RD) and continuous wavelet transform (CWT). On the other hand, pyridoxine hydrochloride (PYH) was determined directly at 291nm. The methods obey Beer's law in the range of (5-50μg/mL) for both compounds. All the methods were validated according to the ICH guidelines where the accuracy was found to be 98.29, 9
