BACKGROUND: Veterans Affairs Medical Centers offer multiple weight-loss treatments, including a comprehensive lifestyle intervention program (i.e., MOVE!), anti-obesity medications (AOMs) and bariatric surgery. Yet, most eligible veterans do not receive these treatments.
AIM: To describe the design, rationale, and planned evaluation of a comprehensive Weight Management and Metabolic Health program (WMMHP), consisting of (1) weight-focused visits with physicians or pharmacists trained in obesity medicine; (2) patient-centered use of available weight-loss treatments; and (3) coordinated, team-b

BACKGROUND: Weight control through lifestyle interventions represents a suitable strategy to avoid the metabolic, endocrine, and reproductive comorbidities associated with overweight and obesity. Reduced testosterone (T) levels are a worsening factor in overweight males. However, prognostic parameters of long-term weight loss are not readily available. Here, we tested the prognostic value of early variations of anthropometric and hormonal parameters, with a focus on ultrasound stratigraphy (US) and the reduction in body mass index (BMI) associated with nutritional counseling/lifestyle interven

BACKGROUND: Self-esteem often changes during weight-loss treatment, and these fluctuations play a crucial role in shaping patients' adherence and clinical outcomes. Understanding the psychological factors that predict self-esteem trajectories during treatment-as-usual programs is therefore essential.
AIM: This longitudinal study investigated whether weight change, alexithymia and its facets, psychological distress, and binge-eating disorder predicted self-esteem after a 9-month clinical weight-loss program.
METHODS: A consecutive sample of 155 adults with overweight or obesity completed asse

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) affects 10-15% of women of reproductive age and is associated with a heightened risk of metabolic morbidity, exacerbated by insulin resistance and obesity. Current weight management strategies have limited effectiveness in reducing metabolic morbidity in this subgroup. This review examines the potential of Intensive Weight Management Programmes (IWMPs) and Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) to reduce metabolic risks in women with PCOS, drawing from studies in both PCOS-specific and related populations.

BACKGROUND: Lifestyle modification (LM) is the mainstay in the management of obese children. This study aimed to investigate the long-term effects of a pediatric cohort participating in a hospital-based LM program.
METHODS: Overweight/obese children and adolescents who visited a multidisciplinary LM program "The Health and Vitality Clinic" were included. Data on weight and height were collected at 6, 12, and 18 months following the initial visit. The changes in body mass index (BMI) and BMI z-score were analyzed.
RESULTS: A total of 120 participants aged 5-18 years who visited the clinic wer

BACKGROUND: Specialist weight management services (SWMSs) in the UK National Health Service (NHS) face long waiting lists and limited resources. Remotely delivered SWMSs may support existing NHS services to increase access to treatment for patients living with obesity; however, evidence of remotely delivered services working to support NHS SWMSs in practice remains limited.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to explore the potential effectiveness, feasibility, and acceptability of Second Nature's remotely delivered SWMS for adults living with obesity referred from existing NHS SWMSs. Preliminary find

PURPOSE: We undertook a trial to test the efficacy of a technology-assisted health coaching intervention for weight management, called Goals for Eating and Moving (GEM), within primary care.
METHODS: This cluster-randomized controlled trial enrolled 19 primary care teams with 63 clinicians; 9 teams were randomized to GEM and 10 to enhanced usual care (EUC). The GEM intervention included 1 in-person and up to 12 telephone-delivered coaching sessions. Coaches supported goal setting and engagement with weight management programs, facilitated by a software tool. Patients in the EUC arm received e

Background: Factors related to clinically meaningful outcomes for pediatric patients seeking care for severe obesity are not well known. Examining patient-level and program-level characteristics related to success may inform future care. Objectives: To determine factors associated with a clinically significant reduction in weight status measured by %BMIp95 after 6 months of treatment. Study Design: This is a retrospective study of youth 5-17 years of age seeking multicomponent weight management care to determine if patient characteristics, treatment recommendations, reported adherence, and add

BACKGROUND: Pediatric obesity is closely associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and short sleep duration. While multidisciplinary weight loss interventions are recommended for pediatric obesity management, the evidence for their effects on OSA severity and overall sleep in youth have not been systematically examined.
OBJECTIVES: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis investigating the effects of multidisciplinary weight loss interventions on OSA severity and prevalence, and on overall sleep health in youth with obesity.
METHODS: A systematic search of interventional studies

The effectiveness of oral glycerol as a dietary component or as a supplement to a 1000-kcal/day diet was examined in two studies involving obese patients. Glycerol did not differ from an equicaloric dose of glucose in its effect on hunger ratings, diet compliance or overall weight loss. We conclude that oral glycerol is not a useful adjunct to weight reduction programs.

The objectives of this evidence scoping review were to identify and characterize studies investigating weight management interventions provided by a registered dietitian nutritionist or international equivalent (RDN) among adults with overweight or obesity. A medical librarian conducted an electronic literature search in 6 databases-MEDLINE (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), PyscINFO (Ovid), Cochrane CENTRAL (Ovid), Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (Ovid), and CINAHL (Ebsco). Except for narrative review, gray literature, and case study or report, all types of peer-reviewed articles published betwee

Problems posed by obesity-related endocrine diseases embody a national health crisis. Caloric excess and sedentary lifestyle from which they develop also pose significant challenges for rehabilitation providers. Almost two thirds of the U.S. population are currently overweight or obese, a number that has increased by >10% within the last decade and is expected to grow. An overweight body habitus is strongly associated with clinical hazards, including cardiometabolic syndrome, diabetes hypertension, and coronary artery disease. The component health risks of the cardiometabolic syndrome include

BACKGROUND: Receiving information about one's weight, Body Mass Index (BMI) and other indicators of health risk may prompt behaviour change. This study investigated men's reactions to receiving information on indicators of health risk prior to taking part in a men-only weight management programme, Football Fans in Training (FFIT). It also investigated the extent to which the information was reported as influencing lifestyle change and having adverse consequences.
METHODS: We undertook a qualitative, semi-structured, telephone interview study with 28 men who took part in FFIT. We sought to int

Childbirth and parenting education programs are coming to the forefront of public health initiatives aimed at the reduction of infant mortality and low birth-weight in high-risk groups in the United States. Childbirth education programs have proven effective in helping parents make positive life style changes and can play an important role in the reduction of risks associated with poor pregnancy outcomes. Childbirth education gives parents the knowledge, desire, and confidence they need to change their health behaviors. The Florida Outreach Childbirth Education Project offers an example of a s

BACKGROUND: A short-term weight reduction program for potential living donors was introduced to reduce the extent of hepatic steatosis prior to liver transplantation. We aimed to investigate changes in non-invasive hepatic steatosis and fibrosis indices among those who completed the program.
METHODS: Among 1,950 potential living liver donors between January 2011 and May 2019, 160 living donors joined the weight reduction program. The prospectively collected clinical data of these potential liver donors were analyzed retrospectively. Hepatic steatosis and fibrosis scores were determined using

OBJECTIVE: To review and discuss the clinical presentation and treatment of idiopathic intracranial hypertension.
DISCUSSION: Visual alterations and headache are the two main symptoms of idiopathic intracranial hypertension, although additional features including cranial nerve palsies, cognitive deficits, olfactory deficits and tinnitus are not uncommon. The headache associated with idiopathic intracranial hypertension frequently has a migrainous phenotype. The underlying cause of the disorder has not yet been elucidated. Several hypotheses have been postulated but none of them can explain th
