One of the methods for obtaining zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) is electrochemical synthesis. In this study, the anodic dissolution process of metallic zinc in alcohol solutions of LiCl was used to synthesize ZnO NPs. The products were obtained as colloidal suspensions in an electrolyte solution. Due to the small size and ionic nature of the zinc oxide molecule, colloidal nanoparticles tend to cluster into larger groupings, so the size of nanoparticles in solutions will differ from the size of nanoparticles observed in ZnO powders after solvent evaporation. The main goal of this research i

Kidney stones have a high recurrence rate, with around 50% of patients encountering one within 10 years of treatment. Crud Cymbopogon Proximus (CP) was used in this work to develop a novel, eco-friendly, and non-toxic approach of ZnO nanoemulsions to assess the protective effects against ethylene glycol-induced renal stones and rat kidney tissue damage in male albino rats. ZnO@CP nanoemulsions were created using high-speed homogenization and the wet chemical precipitation technique. The properties of synthesized powder were characterized using ultraviolet (UV)–visible spectroscopy, Fourier tra

The management of gastrointestinal disease in animals represents a significant challenge in veterinary and zootechnic practice. Traditionally, acute symptoms have been treated with antibiotics and high doses of zinc oxide (ZnO). However, concerns have been raised regarding the potential for microbial resistance and ecological detriment due to the excessive application of this compound. These concerns highlight the urgency of minimizing the use of ZnO and exploring sustainable nutritional solutions. Hydrolysable tannins (HTs), which are known for their role in traditional medicine for acute gas

PURPOSE: The widespread use of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) has raised concerns about its potential toxicity. Melatonin is a neurohormone with tremendous anti-toxic effects. The enterochromaffin cells are an essential source of melatonin in vivo. However, studies on the effects of ZnONPs on endogenous melatonin are minimal. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effects of ZnONPs exposure on gut-derived melatonin.
METHODS: In the present study, 64 adult male mice were randomly and equally divided into four groups, and each group was exposed to ZnONPs (0, 6.5, 13, 26 mg/kg/day)

Our earlier reports established that zinc oxide nanoflowers (ZONF) show significant pro-angiogenic properties, where reactive oxygen species, nitric oxide and MAPK-AKT-eNOS cell signaling axis play an essential task. Considering the significance of angiogenesis in healthcare, our research group has recently demonstrated the in vivo therapeutic application of ZONF (10 mg/kg b.w.) for treating peripheral artery disease. Moreover, based on the angio-neural crosstalk between vascular and neuronal systems, we have further demonstrated the neuritogenic and neuroprotective characteristics of pro-angi

We prepared cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) films with broadband reflective properties by admixing organic dye UV-327 into inorganic zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs), utilizing the principle of pitch distribution from a large to a small gradient along the film thickness direction, leading to broadband reflection. ZnO NPs are poorly dispersed and easy to gather, but they do not decompose easily. The addition of UV-327 makes up for the above shortcomings. UV-327 is an organic compound with good compatibility and dispersion with liquid crystal systems. Therefore, we used the method of mixing t

The reaction of one equivalent of zinc(II) halide with two equivalents of quinoline N-oxide (QNO) in methanol yields compounds as ZnX 2(QNO)2, where X = Cl (I), Br (II) and I (III), namely, di-chlorido-bis-(quinoline N-oxide-κO)zinc(II), [ZnCl2(C9H7NO)2], di-bromido-bis-(quinoline N-oxide-κO)zinc(II), [ZnBr2(C9H7NO)2], and di-iodido-bis-(quinoline N-oxide-κO)zinc(II) [ZnI2(C9H7NO)2]. In all three complexes, Zn cations are coordinated by two QNO ligands bound through the oxygen atoms and two halide atoms, with X-Zn-X bond angles ca 20° wider than the O-Zn-O, giving rise to a distorted tetra-hed

There is a growing concern nowadays over the exposure of nanomaterials and their effects in aquatic life. In spite of reporting the changes in physiology, reproduction and behaviour in fish by different nanoparticles, the molecular events underlying in the aquatic bodies due to the toxicity of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) are mainly unexplored. Therefore, the present study carried out an ex vivo exposure of ZnO NPs at various concentrations (0.382, 0.573 and 1.146 mg L-1) in freshwater fish Cyprinus carpio to investigate the potential adverse effects. The results revealed that ZnO NPs ex

Sunscreen safety and efficacy is generally evaluated based upon the properties of the individual chemicals in a formulation. However, the photostability of sunscreens has been shown to be highly dependent on the mixture of chemicals present. To better understand how sunscreen formulation influences stability, and to establish a foundation for probing the influence of zinc oxide additives, we formulated five different small-molecule based ultraviolet-filter (UV-filter) mixtures with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15. These mixtures contained active ingredients approved in either the United St

Zinc oxide (ZnO) at pharmacological doses is extensively employed in the pig industry as an effective tool to manage post-weaning diarrhea (PWD), a condition that causes huge economic losses because of its impact on the most pivotal phase of a piglet's production cycle. In a multifactorial way, ZnO exerts a variety of positive effects along the entire gastrointestinal tract by targeting intestinal architecture, digestive secretions, antioxidant systems, and immune cells. ZnO also has a moderate antibacterial effect against Escherichia coli F4 (K88), the main causative agent of PWD. However, th

Following an experimental work, we employed density functionals B3LYP, B97D, CAM-B3LYP, BMK, and M06-HF to study the impact of Ca-doping on a ZnO nanotube (ZnONT) sensing performance to the formaldehyde gas. The interaction of the pristine ZnONT with the formaldehyde gas was found to be weak, and the sensing response is 0.7 based on the B3LYP results. Doping a Ca atom into the ZnONT changes the adsorption energy of formaldehyde from - 4.2 to - 36.1 kcal/mol. Energy decomposing analysis indicated that the nature of interaction is partially electrostatic and covalent. The sensing response signif

The regularities and features of the formation of arrays of zinc oxide nano-objects with varying morphology are determined by CO2 laser processing with intensification of diffusion processes in the solid state of Cu-Zn metallic materials which are selectively oxidizable. In the process of laser treatment in air using the synergy of heat exposure and vibrations induced by laser with a force fundamental frequency of 100 Hz, the brass surface of samples is oxidized mainly with the generation of ZnO nanowires. The condition for intensification is the local non-stationary deformation caused by soun

In this study, a simple and cost-effective electrochemical DNA biosensor was developed for sensitive detection of mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB). Nanocomposite of zinc oxide (ZnO) and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) was used as a platform for immobilizing thiolated TB DNA (probe DNA). ZnO was electrodeposited on a glassy carbon electrode by potentiostat electrolysis of Zn (NO3)2 solution at -1.0 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), then AuNPs were loaded as the second layer at -0.4 V from HAuCl4 solution. Thiolated probe DNA was then covalently attached to AuNPs. Anodic peak current of Fe (CN)63-/4- was followed in h

The colonization of microorganisms and their subsequent interaction with stone substrates under different environmental conditions encourage deterioration of materials by multiple mechanisms resulting in changes in the original color, appearance and durability. One of the emerging alternatives to remedy biodeterioration is nanotechnology, thanks to nanoparticle properties such as small size, no-toxicity, high photo-reactivity, and low impact on the environment. This study highlighted the effects of ZnO-based nanomaterials of two bacteria genera isolated from the Temple of Concordia (Agrigento'
