BACKGROUND: Numerous conditions are grouped under the generic term exercise-induced leg pain (EILP), yet clear diagnostic guidelines are lacking. This scoping review was conducted to clarify the definition and diagnostic criteria of nine commonly occurring EILP conditions.

In papillary thyroid carcinoma lymphnode metastases at presentation do not seem to adversely affect survival, but do increase the risk of loco-regional tumor recurrence. The value of systematic versus selective lymphadenectomy is far less standardized, whereas the role of postoperative radioiodine in preventing either nodal recurrence or cancer death remains controversial. Clinical data of 36 N+ patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma who had undergone from 1990 to 1996 ipsilateral or bilateral neck dissection were retrospectively reviewed, to analyse the value of systematic lymphadenectomy.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this article was to report our long-term results of distal vertebral artery (DVA) reconstruction.
METHOD: From 1978 to 2001 we performed 352 DVA reconstructions on 323 patients (177 men, 148 women; mean age, 60.0 +/- 12.1 years). Symptoms of vertebrobasilar insufficiency were present in 332 cases (94.3%). Bypass grafting using mostly saphenous vein graft was performed in 240 cases (68.2%). In 102 cases (29.0%) the DVA was transposed into the internal carotid artery (ICA). Other techniques were used in 10 cases.

BACKGROUND: Compensatory hyperhidrosis (CH) is the most common side effect after a thoracoscopic sympathectomy. The fear of CH is the most common reason why patients do not undergo a sympathectomy, because it is an irreversible procedure unless removal clips are used. Unfortunately, clip removal for reversal of postsympathectomy CH has not been reliable. To address this issue, we developed a new technique of a temporary thoracoscopic sympathetic block that can hopefully predict if postsympathectomy CH is going to occur after sympathectomy for medical refractory primary hyperhidrosis (PH).
