A 24-year-old healthy male presented with a chief complaint of blurred vision in the right eye for 1-week. Fundus examination indicated right exudative retinal detachment and choroidal ischemia. The patient responded well to anti-toxoplasmosis medications and steroids. Exudative retinal detachment and choroidal ischemia are atypical presentations of ocular toxoplasmosis. However, both conditions responded well to anti.parasitic therapy with steroid.

OBJECT: The management issues of 106 cases of pituitary tumors with a fluid level within the fluid content of the cystic part of the tumor (a "fluid-fluid" level) were reviewed.
METHODS: Between 2000 and March 2009, 1660 pituitary tumors were treated neurosurgically at K.E.M. Hospital. Investigations of 106 of these cases revealed a fluid-fluid level within the tumor. All patients underwent surgery via a transsphenoidal route. The mean follow-up duration was 46 months.

This study was to determine the diagnostic value of procalcitonin (PCT) in the differentiation of infectious and non-infectious causes of pleural effusion. From January 2005 to April 2005, we measured the PCT levels of pleural effusion from 76 patients using an immunoluminometric assay. The types of pleural infusions studied were para-pneumonic effusion (n = 26), empyema (n = 7), tuberculous pleurisy (n = 8), malignant pleural effusion (n = 25) and transudative pleural effusion (n = 8). There is no simple definition of what constitutes a complex wound, but in practice the term tends to refer wounds with one or more complicating factors, e.g. exudate, infection, comorbidity, polypharmacy. Management of complex wounds is based on the same principles as non-complex wounds, i.e. holistic assessment and addressing the issues identified. This article presents three case studies in which these principles are applied.

This study reports on the diagnosis and treatment of chondral delamination in the knees of soccer players. The authors attempted to provide a clinical standard for comparison with emerging cartilage repair techniques. Twenty-three consecutive chondral fractures in a homogeneous population of athletes were evaluated using physical examination, magnetic resonance imaging, and arthroscopic examination. All knees were treated with debridement to a stable border and removal of the calcified cartilage base. Results were graded using the scoring system advocated by proponents of chondral transplant.

A retrospective review of both mesh classic inguinal hernia repairs performed under the guidance of a single surgeon showed that Mersilene mesh is safe to use and that the recurrence rate is significantly improved by using the mesh for repair. Mersilene mesh is easier to use than other types of mesh and should be used routinely in the repair of inguinal and femoral hernias.
