Keratosis Pilaris and its Subtypes: Associations, New Molecular and Pharmacologic Etiologies, and Therapeutic Options.

Keratosis pilaris is a common skin disorder comprising less common variants and rare subtypes, including keratosis pilaris rubra, erythromelanosis follicularis faciei et colli, and the spectrum of keratosis pilaris atrophicans. Data, and critical analysis of existing data, are lacking, so the etiologies, pathogeneses, disease associations, and treatments of these clinical entities are poorly understood. The present article aims to fill this knowledge gap by reviewing literature in the PubMed, EMBASE, and CINAHL databases and providing a comprehensive, analytical summary of the clinical charact

Superficial malignant fibrous histiocytoma presenting as recurrent atypical fibroxanthoma.

Atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) and malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) are neoplasms of probable fibrohistiocytic lineage. The precise relationship between AFX and MFH remains controversial. We present two cases in which a lesion was excised from the face of an elderly person and reported as AFX. Both cases recurred within 12 months and were reclassified as MFH. They were excised with slow Mohs' micrographic surgery, with adjuvant radiotherapy in one case. In the other, a further recurrence was treated with orbital exenteration and radiotherapy. We review the difficulties in differentiating bet

New non-invasive safe, quick, economical method of detecting various cancers was found using QRS complex or rising part of T-wave of recorded ECGs. Cancers can be screened along with their biochemical parameters & therapeutic effects of any cancer treatments can be evaluated using recorded ECGs of the same individual.

There are many methods of detecting cancers including detection of cancer markers by blood test, (which is invasive, time consuming and relatively expensive), detection of cancers by non-invasive methods such as X-Ray, CT scan, and MRI & PET Scan (which are non-invasive and quick but very expensive). Our research was performed to develop new non-invasive, safe, quick economical method of detecting cancers and the 1st author already developed for clinically important non-invasive new methods including early stage of present method using his method of localizing accurate organ representation are

Ptosis: causes, presentation, and management.

Drooping of the upper eyelid (upper eyelid ptosis) may be minimal (1-2 mm), moderate (3-4 mm), or severe (>4 mm), covering the pupil entirely. Ptosis can affect one or both eyes. Ptosis can be present at birth (congenital) or develop later in life (acquired). Ptosis may be due to a myogenic, neurogenic, aponeurotic, mechanical or traumatic cause. Usually, ptosis occurs isolated, but may be associated with various other conditions, like immunological, degenerative, or hereditary disorders, tumors, or infections. Besides drooping, patients with ptosis complain about tired appearance, blurred vis

Subperiosteal face lift: a 200-case, 4-year review.

The subperiosteal face lift is a procedure designed to rejuvenate the upper and middle thirds of the face. Herein is reviewed a 4-year series of 200 consecutive patients who have undergone a subperiosteal face lift with a special emphasis on handling of the zygomatic arch. The main operative indication was significant ptosis of the midface soft tissue. Dissection of the maxilla, zygoma, periorbital areas, and the anterior arch was carried out through either a gingivo-buccal sulcus incision (39 cases) or a subciliary incision (161 cases). Dissection of the posterior arch was carried out in a pl

STUDIES ON TREPONEMA PALLIDUM AND SYPHILIS : III. THE INDIVIDUAL FLUCTUATIONS IN VIRULENCE AND COMPARATIVE VIRULENCE OF TREPONEMA PALLIDUM STRAINS PASSED THROUGH RABBITS.

1. As regards these strains, at least, there is no consistent change, either increase or decrease, of rabbit pathogenicity during progressive rabbit passage. 2. There is no difference in pathogenicity between these different strains, although some of them were isolated from condylomata, some from chancres, one from a mucous patch, and one by Nichols from the nervous system. 3. We do not believe that there is any consistency of difference in speed of incubation between these various strains. 4. We think that the nature of the lesion produced by any individual strain, and the incubation time as

Objective and subjective retrospective evaluation of XERF, a novel single-shot dual-frequency non-invasive monopolar radiofrequency.

Facial support is maintained by the vertical anchoring system, a collagen-rich network comprising the dermis, retinacula cutis, superficial musculoaponeurotic system, and retaining ligaments, which progressively deteriorates with age. Noninvasive monopolar radiofrequency (NMRF) induce collagen contraction and remodeling within these structures; however, clinical outcomes with conventional NMRF remain variable. XERF (Cynosure-Lutronic, South Korea) is a dual-frequency NMRF that sequentially delivers 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz energy within a single pulse. This study objectively and subjectively evaluat

A plain language summary on ritlecitinib treatment for adults and adolescents with alopecia areata.

WHAT IS THIS SUMMARY ABOUT?: This is a summary of the results of the ALLEGRO phase 2b/3 clinical trial, originally published in The Lancet. ALLEGRO-2b/3 looked at how well and safely the study medicine, ritlecitinib, works in treating people with alopecia areata ('AA' for short). The immune system protects your body from outside invaders such as bacteria and viruses. AA is an autoimmune disease, meaning a disease in which one's immune system attacks healthy cells of the body by mistake. In AA, the immune system attacks hair follicles, causing hair to fall out. AA causes hair loss ranging from

Pneumonia-Induced Thyroid Crisis With Thyrotoxicosis Exacerbation: De Novo Graves' Disease Presentation on a Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS).

Cornelia de Lange syndrome (CdLS) is a rare genetic disorder that affects multiple organ systems and is characterized by distinctive facial features, growth retardation, and developmental disabilities. The syndrome is caused by mutations in genes (NIPBL, RAD21, SMC3, HDAC8, and SMC1A) involved in the cohesin complex, which plays a critical role in chromosome segregation and gene expression regulation. Clinical findings typically include dysmorphic facial features (arched eyebrows, synophrys, long eyelashes, ptosis, long philtrum, thin upper lip, and posteriorly rotated ears), growth and mental

Xia-Gibbs Syndrome: A Review of Literature.

Xia-Gibbs syndrome (XGS) is a rare genetic disorder that has been discovered as a distinct clinical entity in the recent past. The occurrence has been attributed to the mutation of AT Hook DNA binding motif Containing 1 (AHDC1) gene that is carried on chromosome 1p36. The concerned gene participates in deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) repair apart from other crucial functions. The mutation results in dysfunction that leads to neurodevelopmental delay. The spectrum of manifestations constitutes intellectual disabilities, hypotonia, expressive language delay, sleep difficulties, and short stature. Dy
