The influence of altered lower-limb muscle strength on dynamic plantar pressure distribution in participants who underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

INTRODUCTION: Deficits in lower-limb muscle strength and altered gait mechanics are common after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL). While isokinetic strength testing is widely accepted in return-to-sport assessment, the role of plantar pressure analysis in detecting compensatory gait strategies remains underexplored. METHODS: This study included 10 male patients (30.27 ± 5.59 years; 178.37 ± 6.30 cm; 84.85 ± 10.74 kg) who underwent ACL reconstruction using bone-patellar tendon-bone autografts. Assessments were performed preoperatively and at 3 and 6 months postoperatively, evalu

[Autologous hamstring versus quadriceps graft in anterior cruciate ligament plasty. Comparative study with focus on Return-To-Sport].

INTRODUCTION: anterior cruciate ligament rupture has evolved to be one of the most common sports injuries with a remarkable increase in its incidence in the last two decades, with Return-To-Sport being a crucial approach in the choice of autologous graft for its surgical repair, the most commonly used being hamstring and quadriceps tendon graft. MATERIAL AND METHODS: a prospective randomized study was performed with 32 patients divided into two groups, one for each type of graft, with 13 patients in each. They were evaluated before surgery, at 30, 180 and 360 days after the procedure using sc

Changes of Functional, Morphological, and Inflammatory Reactions in Spontaneous Peripheral Nerve Reinnervation after Thermal Injury.

In recent decades, the use of energy-based devices has substantially increased the incidence of iatrogenic thermal injury to nerves (cauterization, etc.). While recovery of the nerve after thermal injury is important, the changes in neural structure, function, and peripheral inflammatory reactions postinjury remain unclear. This study is aimed at demonstrating the changes mentioned above during the acute, subacute, and chronic stages of nerve reinnervation after thermal injury. Spontaneous reinnervation was evaluated, including the neural structures, nerve conduction abilities, and muscle rege

Minimally invasive reconstruction technique for chronic Achilles tendon tears allows rapid return to walking and leads to good functional recovery.

PURPOSE: Chronic Achilles tendon tears, including chronic ruptures with end gap over 6 cm making end-to-end suturing impossible, can be treated with autologous hamstring graft reconstruction. The primary goal of this study was to present the biomechanical and long-term clinical results of recently developed minimally invasive Achilles tendon reconstruction technique. METHODS: Minimally invasive Achilles tendon reconstruction was applied to 8 foot and ankle cadaveric specimens as well as 18 patients with chronic Achilles tendon tears. Repaired cadavers were subjected to the biomechanical testi

Extraosseous 99mTc-MDP Uptake Guiding Intraoperative Sampling in Severe Inflammatory Myopathy: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Background/Objectives: We report a case of severe dermatomyositis demonstrating characteristic widespread extraosseous uptake on 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) bone scintigraphy. This study highlights the diagnostic value of this modality in detecting active inflammatory myopathy when conventional muscle biopsy is inconclusive and introduces its novel use for intraoperative gamma-probe-guided biopsy to precisely target metabolically active muscle. This approach may help target metabolically active muscle in heterogeneous idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs). Case Presentation:

TTN as a candidate gene for distal arthrogryposis type 10 pathogenesis.

BACKGROUND: Arthrogryposis is a medical term used to describe congenital contractures which often affect multiple limbs. Distal arthrogryposis (DA) is one of the major categories of arthrogryposis that primarily affects the distal parts of the body, i.e., the hands and the legs. Although ten different types and several subtypes of DAs have been described, the genes associated with each of these DAs are yet to be characterized. Distal arthrogryposis type 10 (DA10) is a rare genetic disease, which is distinguished from the other arthrogryposis types by plantar flexion contractures resulting in t

Is autonomic dysreflexia a cause of respiratory dysfunction after spinal cord injury?

INTRODUCTION: Spinal cord injury (SCI) often leads to impairment of the respiratory system. In fact, respiratory insufficiency is a significant cause of mortality and morbidity following SCI, related to the extent and level of the neurologic injury and its effects on the respiratory muscles (reduction in respiratory muscle strength and fatigue due to a reduction in inspiratory capacity, atelectasis and ineffective coughing). Less commonly recalled is the fact that autonomic dysreflexia (AD) is the result of parasympathetic imbalance. However, AD results from a massive, unrestrained outpouring

Coaches' perceptions of injuries in women's football.

Despite the growth of women's football, limited research has examined injury profiles and at a non-elite level. This study aimed to evaluate coaches' perceptions of injuries and risk factors in senior non-elite women's football within the United Kingdom. A quantitative, cross-sectional, online survey was completed by 21 qualified coaches which examined perceived injury types, locations, mechanisms, risk factors, and the influence of the menstrual cycle. Data were analysed using frequency and descriptive statistics. Coaches perceived muscle strains/tears (81%) and ligament sprains/tears (67%) a

Ischiofemoral impingement: Clinical perspectives for enhancing diagnosis, and rehabilitation.

INTRODUCTION: Buttock pain often presents a diagnostic dilemma for healthcare professionals, with misdiagnosis resulting in poor treatment outcomes. Ischiofemoral impingement (IFI) - impingement of the quadratus femoris between the ischium and lesser trochanter - is one of the most overlooked causes of buttock pain. Ischiofemoral impingement is most common in females and results in pathology within the quadratus femoris muscle, with additional changes sometimes present within the iliopsoas and proximal hamstring tendons, and the adjacent sciatic nerve. Structural risk factors that narrow the i

Effects of the Combined Abdominal Draw-In Maneuver and Manual Resistance on Lumbopelvic Muscle Activity and Anterior Pelvic Tilt During Prone Hip Extension.

This study investigated the effects of applying the abdominal draw-in maneuver (ADIM) and manual resistance (MR), separately and in combination, during prone hip extension (PHE) on muscle activity and anterior pelvic tilt. Twenty-four healthy adult males performed PHE under three randomized conditions: ADIM, MR, and ADIM combined with MR. Electromyography was used to measure gluteus maximus (GM), erector spinae (ES), internal oblique (IO), and hamstring activity, while anterior pelvic tilt angle was assessed using a gyroscopic sensor. Repeated-measures ANOVA revealed significant differences ac
