There have been no studies demonstrating the correlation between soil nutrient heterogeneity and cadmium (Cd) absorption of Bermudagrass. In this study, a pot experiment was carried out to study the correlation between them. The purpose is to find soil nutrient factors which are conducive to improving the Cd absorption and translocation. The eighth group had the largest total number of surviving plants, the highest Fv/Fo value (3.24) and the best growth characteristics. The fifth group had the lowest total number of surviving plants, Fv/Fo (2.47) and the worst growth. The Cd content of the fif

BACKGROUND: Infections with gastric Helicobacter spp. are associated with gastritis, peptic ulceration, and malignancies. Helicobacter pylori is the most prevalent Helicobacter species colonizing the human stomach. Other gastric non-H. pylori helicobacters (NHPHs) have been described in 0.2%-6% of human patients with gastric disorders. Nevertheless, due to difficulties in the diagnosis of NHPH infections and lack of routine screening, this is most likely an underestimation of their true prevalence. To the best of our knowledge, no studies have been performed in the presence of Helicobacter spp

BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection causes various gastrointestinal diseases including gastric cancer. Hence, eradication of this infection could prevent these diseases. The most popular first-line treatment protocol to eradicate H. pylori is termed "triple therapy" and consists of a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), clarithromycin, and amoxicillin or metronidazole. However, the antibiotics used to treat H. pylori infection are hindered by the antibiotics-resistant bacteria and by their antimicrobial activity against intestinal bacteria, leading to side effects. Therefore, an alte

BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori affects almost half of the world's population and therefore is one of the most frequent and persistent bacterial infections worldwide. H. pylori is associated with chronic gastritis, ulcer disease (gastric and duodenal), mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma, and gastric cancer. Several diagnostic methods exist to detect infection and the option of one method or another depends on various genes, such as availability, advantages and disadvantages of each method, monetary value, and the age of patients.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with complaints of abdo

Soil remediation mitigates hazards from contaminants but could deprive soils of initial biota and enzymes. Historically contaminated acidic soil from Arnoldstein (Austria) and calcareous soil from Meza (Slovenia) were washed with 30 and 100 mmol kg-1 ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) to remove 78 and 60% of Pb as a main pollutant. Remediation of the Arnoldstein soil decreased urease activity and increased β-glucosidase activity, measured in a 15-week experiment. The dehydrogenase activity and microbial gene abundances were not significantly impeded compared to the original soil. Conversely, t

Bioaugmentation of Zn solubilizing rhizobacteria could be a sustainable intervention to increase bioavailability of Zn in soil which can be helpful in mitigation of yield loss and malnutrition of zinc. In present study, a number of pure rhizobacterial colonies were isolated from maize rhizosphere and screened for their ability to solubilize zinc oxide. These isolates were screened on the basis of zinc and phosphate solubilization, IAA production, protease production, catalase activity and starch hydrolysis. All the selected isolates were also positive for oxidase activity (except ZM22), HCN pr

Helicobacter pylori have colonized the gastric mucosa of half of the population worldwide. This bacterium is classified as a definitive type I carcinogen by the World Health Organization and no effective vaccine has been found against it yet. Thus, a logical and rational vaccine design against H. pylori is necessary. Because of its tremendous complexity and elicited immune responses, the vaccine design should considered multiple antigens to enhance immune-protection, involved in the different stages of pathogenesis besides inducing a specific immune response by B- and T-cell multi-epitopes. BACKGROUND: Subjects with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency may be more susceptible to infections due to impaired leukocyte bactericidal activity. The disorder is common in the Mediterranean area. The aim of this study was to investigate whether G6PD deficiency may be a risk factor for acquiring H. pylori infection.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective study. Data from clinical records of 6565 patients (2278 men and 4287 women, median age 51, range 7‒94) who underwent upper endoscopy between 2002 and 2014 were collected. H. pylori status, assessed by histology plus rapid ur

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) leads to chronic gastritis and eventually causes gastric cancer. The prevalence of H. pylori infection is gradually decreasing with improvement of living conditions and eradication therapy. However, some reports have described cases of H. pylori-negative gastric cancers (HpNGC), and the prevalence was 0.42-5.4% of all gastric cancers. Diagnostic criteria of HpNGC vary among the different reports; thus, they have not yet been definitively established. We recommend negative findings in two or more methods that include endoscopic or pathological findings or serum p

Carbonic anhydrases are a group of isoenzymes that catalyze the reversible conversion of carbon dioxide into bicarbonate. They participate in a constellation of physiological processes in humans, including respiration, bone metabolism, and the formation of body fluids, including urine, bile, pancreatic juice, gastric secretion, saliva, aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, and sweat. In addition, carbonic anhydrase may provide carbon dioxide/bicarbonate to carboxylation reactions that incorporate carbon dioxide to substrates. Several isoforms of carbonic anhydrase have been identified in humans,

Most of the urea sensors are biosensors and utilize urease, which limit their use in harsh environments. Recently, because of their exceptional ability to endorse faster electron transfer, carbonaceous material composites and quantum dots are being used for fabrication of a sensitive transducer surface for urea biosensors. We demonstrate an enzyme free ultrasensitive urea sensor fabricated using a SnO2 quantum dots (QDs)/reduced graphene oxide (RGO) composite. Due to the synergistic effect of the constituents, the SnO2 QDs/RGO (SRGO) composite proved to be an excellent probe for electrochemica

In children with chronic gastritis/gastroduodenitis (CG/CGD), ulcerative and erosive processes of mucous and associated allergic diseases IgM, IgA, IgG, and IgE to the H. pylori were determined by ELISA in the blood serum. IgM-antibodies to H. pylori were found in isolated cases and did not present a diagnostic significance. IgG-antibodies were detected in all children in the same percentage (40-50%), pointing indirectly to the widespread contamination by H. pylori. IgA-antibodies to H. pylori with high frequency (83% and 57%) were found in the blood serum of children with the diseases of gast
