Long-term benzodiazepine prescription in treatment-resistant depression: A national FACE-TRD prospective study.

BACKGROUND: Benzodiazepine long-term use (BLTU) is a public health challenge. We lack data on the consequences of LBTU on the trajectory of treatment-resistant depression (TRD). OBJECTIVE: To determine the prevalence of BLTU in a nationwide non-selected population of patients with TRD, to determine the rate of patients succeeding at withdrawing benzodiazepines at one year and to determine if persistent BLTU is associated with poorer mental health outcomes. METHOD: The FACE-TRD cohort is a national cohort of TRD patients recruited in 13 resistant depression expert centers between 2014 and 202

Real-life use of onabotulinumtoxinA reduces healthcare resource utilization in individuals with chronic migraine: the REPOSE study.

BACKGROUND: Chronic migraine (CM) is associated with substantial economic burden. Real-world data suggests that onabotulinumtoxinA treatment for CM reduces healthcare resource utilisation (HRU) and related costs. METHODS: REPOSE was a 2-year prospective, multicentre, non-interventional, observational study to describe the real-world use of onabotulinumtoxinA in adult patients with CM. This analysis examined the impact of onabotulinumtoxinA on HRU. Patients received onabotulinumtoxinA treatment approximately every 12 weeks according to their physicians' discretion, guided by the summary of pro

Rhinovirus Infections in the First 2 Years of Life.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Rhinoviruses frequently cause respiratory infections in young children. We aimed to establish the burden of acute respiratory infections caused by rhinovirus during the first 2 years of life. METHODS: In this prospective birth cohort study, we followed 923 children for acute respiratory infections from birth to 2 years of age. Data on respiratory infections were collected by daily symptom diaries, study clinic visits, and from electronic registries. Respiratory viruses were detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and antigen assays during respira

Use of health care services and pharmaceutical agents in coeliac disease: a prospective nationwide study.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 1% of the population suffer from coeliac disease. However, the disease is heavily underdiagnosed. Unexplained symptoms may lead to incremented medical consultations and productivity losses. The aim here was to estimate the possible concealed burden of untreated coeliac disease and the effects of a gluten-free diet. METHODS: A nationwide cohort of 700 newly detected adult coeliac patients were prospectively evaluated. Health care service use and sickness absence from work during the year before diagnosis were compared with those in the general population; the data obt

Housing instability is as strong a predictor of poor health outcomes as level of danger in an abusive relationship: findings from the SHARE Study.

Advocates, clinicians, policy makers, and survivors frequently cite intimate partner violence (IPV) as an immediate cause of or precursor to housing problems. Research has indicated an association between homelessness and IPV, yet few studies examine IPV and housing instability. Housing instability differs from homelessness, in that someone experiencing housing instability may currently have a place to live but faces difficulties with maintaining the residence. We present baseline findings from a longitudinal cohort study of 278 female IPV survivors with housing as a primary concern. Our analy

Association between estrogen receptor alpha 36 expression and the risk of deep infiltrating endometriosis.

BACKGROUND: Deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) is a severe subtype of endometriosis, often associated with dysmenorrhea and significant diagnostic challenges. Conventional biomarkers, such as cancer antigen 125 (CA125), lack sufficient specificity for accurate DIE diagnosis. Estrogen receptor α36 (ERα36) is a novel isoform of the estrogen receptor, distinct from the classic estrogen receptor α66 (ERα66), and has been implicated in the pathogenesis of several gynecologic disorders, including breast and endometrial cancer. However, the expression pattern of ERα36 in DIE tissues and its potent

Association of Plasma IL-6 with Indoor Radon Exposure in Children with Non-Allergic Asthma.

Background/Objectives: Radon exposure has recently been associated with asthma morbidity, including increased airway inflammation and school absenteeism in children, though limited data on underlying biological mechanisms exist. Interleukin-6 (IL-6), a pleiotropic cytokine implicated in both Type 2-low airway inflammation and radon-related lung carcinogenesis, may represent a key mechanistic link between radon exposure and asthma morbidity. We aimed to evaluate the association between indoor radon exposure and plasma IL-6 levels in children with asthma and whether this relationship differs by

Factors associated with outcome in a national cohort of rhinovirus hospitalized patients in Brazil in 2022.

The common cold is the primary cause of illness in the community, with over 200 viral strains identified, and rhinovirus infections being the most prevalent. Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) is also a significant cause of severe illness. The burden of acute respiratory infections has a significant impact on the economy, resulting in absenteeism from work and school. Rhinovirus infections can exacerbate asthma and other chronic diseases, leading to hospitalization. The objective of this study is to investigate the factors associated with death and survival in patients hospitalized for rhinovir
