Detection and risk factor analysis of avian colibacillosis associated with colistin-resistant Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Colibacillosis associated with colistin-resistant avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli) poses a threat to both food security and public health. The potential horizontal transmission of mobilized colistin-resistant (mcr) genes facilitates the co-emergence of Klebsiella pneumoniae. This study aimed to determine the prevalence, molecular detection, analyze the antibiogram and identify associated risk factors for colistin-resistant E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from broiler chicken in three districts of Punjab province, Pakistan. In total, 230 visceral organ samples were collect

Multispecies emergence of dual blaKPC/NDM carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales recovered from invasive infections in Chile.

Carbapenemase-producing carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CP-CRE) represent a significant global threat. The emergence of dual CP-CRE is particularly alarming, as they can potentially compromise the efficacy of newer antibiotics, further decreasing therapeutic alternatives. Herein, we report the emergence of multiple species of CP-CRE recovered from invasive infections in Chile that simultaneously harbor blaKPC and blaNDM and provide an in-depth genomic characterization of these worrisome pathogens. We collected carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) isolates from invasive infections

Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL), blaTEM,blaSHV and blaCTX-M, Resistance Genes in Community and Healthcare Associated Gram Negative Bacteria from Osun State, Nigeria.

BACKGROUND: Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL) production in gram negative bacteria confers multiple antibiotic resistance, adversely affecting antimicrobial therapy in infected individuals. ESBLs result from mutations in β-lactamases encoded mainly by the blaTEM,blaSHV and blaCTX-M genes. The prevalence of ESBL producing bacteria has been on the increase globally, especially its upsurge among isolates from community-acquired infections has been observed. AIM: To determine ESBL prevalence and identify ESBL genes among clinical isolates in Osun State, Nigeria. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A cro

Antimicrobial Treatment Options for Granulomatous Mastitis Caused by Corynebacterium Species.

Corynebacterium species are increasingly recognized as important pathogens in granulomatous mastitis. Currently, there are no published treatment protocols for Corynebacterium breast infections. This study describes antimicrobial treatment options in the context of other management strategies used for granulomatous mastitis. Corynebacterium spp. isolated from breast tissue and aspirate samples stored from 2002 to 2013 were identified and determined to the species level using matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS), 16S RNA sequencing, and rpo

CRISPR/Cas9-targeted smpB mutation revealing roles in biofilm formation, motility, and antibiotic susceptibility in Acinetobacter baumannii.

BACKGROUND: Acinetobacter baumannii is a multidrug-resistant pathogen and a major cause of hospital-acquired infections worldwide. Its ability to survive in harsh environments and evade antibiotic treatments underscores the urgent need for new therapeutic targets. Emerging evidence suggests that the small protein B (SmpB) may also play broader roles in bacterial virulence, including regulation of biofilm formation, motility, and stress adaptation. However, the specific contributions of SmpB to these pathogenic traits in A. baumannii remain poorly defined. Addressing this knowledge gap is essen
