Effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination to prevent health care personnel absences: A single site experience.

Absenteeism from infections has a significant impact on the health care workforce. We found that COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment reduced absenteeism in health care personnel until February 2022 when absences became higher in vaccinated than unvaccinated health care personnel. Maintaining a COVID-19 vaccine mandate is challenging given changing epidemiology.

Health economics benefits following autologous chondrocyte transplantation for patients with focal chondral lesions of the knee.

Autologous chondrocyte transplantation (ACT) for the treatment of cartilage injuries has been in clinical use for several years. Since this new technique is potentially more costly and invasive than traditional conservative therapies, we evaluated the effect of ACT on clinical outcome, absenteeism, disability status, and total direct economic burden in 57 patients with full-thickness chondral lesions of the knee treated between 1987 and 1996. Patients graded good or excellent following ACT in the treatments groups were: femoral condyles (28/33), femoral condyles with anterior cruciate ligament

Associations between violence in school and at home and education outcomes in rural Malawi: A longitudinal analysis.

Growing evidence of the prevalence of school-related gender-based violence (SRGBV) has raised concerns about negative effects on education. Previous quantitative research on this topic has been limited by descriptive and cross-sectional data. Using longitudinal data from the Malawi Schooling and Adolescent Study, we investigate associations between school and domestic violence and three education outcomes: absenteeism, learning and dropout. Half of respondents had experienced both SRGBV and domestic violence by ages 18-21. Associations between violence and education were mixed: school-related

Cut them some slack: Examining the effects of slack resources on the hospital workforce.

BACKGROUND: Resource and capacity constraints can hamper the functioning of health care organizations and adversely affect the workforce, particularly during a shock. To mitigate the workforce crisis and enhance the ability to deal with shocks, slack resources (surplus resources accumulated by organizations) may be beneficial. PURPOSE: This paper seeks to identify how slack may benefit hospital staff in terms of reduced absenteeism and turnover, and how slack may buffer against the negative effects of shocks on staff. METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: Using a nationwide dataset including annual reports
