This study aimed to introduce the use of an acellular dermal matrix (ADM) as a posterior lamellar substitution for full-thickness eyelid reconstruction after malignant tumor excision. After resection of the malignant eyelid tumors, anterior lamellar defects were repaired using direct sutures and pedicled flaps in 20 patients (15 men and 5 women). ADM was used to replace the tarsal plate and the conjunctiva. All patients were followed up for 6 months or more to assess the functional and esthetic outcomes of the procedure. The flaps survived in all but 2 cases, wherein they necrosed due to insuf

BACKGROUND: The use of an acellular dermal matrix (ADM) has not been reported in medial orbital wall fracture reconstruction previously. This study aimed to share our early experience with the cross-linked ADM as an allograft material for medial orbital wall reconstruction.
METHODS: In this study, the author evaluated the medical records and serial facial computed tomography scans of 27 patients with pure medial orbital wall fractures reconstructed by a single surgeon between May 2021 and March 2023. The author routinely approached the medial orbital wall with a retrocaruncular incision. Five

OBJECTIVE: Skin grafts after negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and acellular dermal matrix (ADM) usage have both been useful for treating diabetic foot amputation. We hypothesised that injectable ADM combined with NPWT would be more useful than NPWT only for healing after amputation in patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical outcomes of injectable ADM combined with NPWT in patients with DFU who have undergone amputation.
METHOD: This retrospective study reviewed patients with infected DFUs who were administered NPWT. Patients were

Diabetic chronic wounds are not only accompanied by inflammation and ulcers but also cause amputation when they develop into severe diabetic foot. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been proven to ameliorate diabetic wound healing, however, the low survival rate of exogenous MSCs after transplantation into the highly proteolytic wound environment is a major obstacle to effective stem cell therapy. Herein, to improve the proliferation, differentiation, and anti-apoptosis ability of transplanted MSCs, we prepared Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles encapsulated with anti-inflamma

BACKGROUND: Human-derived acellular dermal matrix (ADM) has been widely used as an effective alternative to autologous grafts in tympanoplasty. However, evidence of ADM as an alternative to autologous grafts in the repair of tympanic membrane (TM) perforation still lacks adequate empirical evidence.
OBJECTIVES: To determine the clinical safety and efficacy of human-derived ADM as TM graft material for tympanoplasty.
DATA SOURCES: The PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, EBSCO, Ovid, Scopus, and Web of Science databases and reference lists of the retrieved articles were searched, with no languag

Healing of diabetic foot ulcers is a major challenge. Despite adhering to optimal standard of care (SOC), less than 30% of wounds heal after 20 weeks. Advanced cellular tissue-based products have shown better healing over SOC, albeit with great cost and modest improvement. We hypothesized no difference in healing effected by either cellular (Dermagraft), noncellular (Oasis) devices, relative to SOC in treating diabetic foot ulcer in a randomized controlled trial. The primary and secondary outcomes were the percentage of subjects that achieved complete wound closure by study endpoint (12 weeks

Extracellular matrix (ECM) materials are currently utilized for soft tissue repair applications such as vascular grafts, tendon reconstruction, and hernia repair. These materials are derived from tissues such as human dermis and porcine small intestine submucosa, which must be rendered acellular to prevent disease transmission and decrease the risk of an immune response. The ideal decellularization technique removes cells and cellular remnants, but leaves the original collagen architecture intact. The tissue utilized in this study was the central tendon of the porcine diaphragm, which had not

Implant based breast reconstruction (IBR) remains the most commonly performed reconstructive approach following mastectomy. Contemporary practice has evolved significantly through advances in implant technology, availability of biological and synthetic meshes, and the establishment of prepectoral IBR as an alternative to the traditional subpectoral technique. Patient selection and operative planning remain complex, particularly in the setting of varying breast anatomy, ptosis, skin quality, nipple preservation, and anticipated adjuvant therapies. The aim of the presented algorithm is to suppor

Acellular dermal matrix (ADM) is frequently used in implant-based breast reconstruction due to its perceived aesthetic superiority and reduction in postoperative complications. This meta-analysis aims to investigate the aesthetic outcomes and surgical complications of ADM in immediate direct-to-implant (DTI) breast reconstruction. A systematic literature review was conducted using Medline, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases up to November 25, 2024. Comparative studies analyzing aesthetic outcomes and surgical complications of DTI reconstruction with and without ADM were included. Ten articles were

PURPOSE: The vertical soft tissue thickness over the implant is essential for long-term procedure success and for biological integration of the suprabony soft tissue component, consequently, development of alternatives to autogenous soft tissue grafts such as allogeneic and xenogeneic grafts were needed. Acellular dermal matrix (ADM) is utilized to provide structural support for angiogenesis, revascularization and tissue remodeling in soft tissue augmentation, recession, and increasing the keratinized tissue width. At this point, the aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the amount of

INTRODUCTION: Bilateral risk-reducing mastectomy (BRRM) involves removal of healthy breast tissue to substantially decrease the risk of developing breast cancer in individuals with greater susceptibility due to a strong family history or genetic mutation. This retrospective study evaluates cases of BRRM and associated reconstruction performed at a tertiary centre, with emphasis on mastectomy and reconstructive trends.
METHODS: A retrospective review of all BRRM cases performed between January 2010 and May 2022 was conducted, with two separate cohorts corresponding to the earlier (group 1) and

BACKGROUND: In the United States, approximately 57,000 tissue expander/implant-based breast reconstructions are performed each year. Complete submuscular tissue expander coverage affords the best protection against implant exposure but can restrict lower pole expansion. The benefits of using acellular dermal matrix are enticing, but questions remain as to whether or not its presence increases reconstructive failures. The purpose of this study was to investigate predictors of explantation in those patients with acellular dermal matrix reconstructions and to discuss salvage techniques.
METHODS:
