The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), with representation from North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, and South America, was formed in 1992 to provide a forum for liaison between resuscitation organizations in the developed world. This consensus document on resuscitation extends previously published ILCOR advisory statements on resuscitation to address the unique and changing physiology of the newly born infant within the first few hours following birth and the techniques for providing advanced life support. The International Bone Marrow Transplant Registry (IBMTR) receives and analyses detailed information contributed by transplant teams at more than 175 institutions worldwide. This collaborative research effort has grown rapidly; there are now more than 8000 cases in the database. This is a summary of the current status of bone marrow transplantation in leukemia and severe aplastic anemia, a brief summary of key findings reported by the IBMTR during the past year, as well as studies planned for the coming year.

BACKGROUND: The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) previously released guidance in May of 2024 regarding the use of Imvamune® for the prevention of mpox in the context of a routine immunization program. Since the release of this guidance, the emergence of a novel subclade of mpox (clade Ib) has led to a shifting epidemiological landscape and several international jurisdictions have, therefore, revised their Imvamune guidance.
OBJECTIVE: To summarize the updated NACI guidance on the use of Imvamune for the prevention of mpox.
METHODS: NACI reviewed data on the current epidemio

BACKGROUND: Herpes zoster (HZ), or shingles, results from the reactivation of latent varicella-zoster virus and poses a significant health burden and immunocompromised adults are at higher risk of HZ and its complications. In 2018, the recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV, Shingrix®) was strongly recommended by the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) for immunocompetent adults aged 50 years and older. Since then, evidence has accumulated on the use of RZV in immunocompromised adults and in 2021, Health Canada expanded the authorization of RZV to adults 18 years of age and older who a

To reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and its associated impacts on health and society, COVID-19 vaccines are essential. The U.S. government is working to produce and deliver safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines for the entire U.S. population. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)* has broadly outlined its approach for developing recommendations for the use of each COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Emergency Use Authorization or licensure (1). Meningococcal invasive disease, including the main clinical presentation forms (sepsis and meningitis), is a severe and potentially lethal infection caused by different serogroups of Neisseria meningitidis. Meningococcal serogroup B is the most prevalent in Europe. Most cases occur in children, with a mortality rate of 10% and a risk of permanent sequelae of 20-30% among survivors. The highest incidence and case fatality rates are observed in healthy children under 2-3 years old, followed by adolescents, although it can occur at any age. With the arrival in Spain of the only available vaccine

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommends quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine, (MCV4) (Menactra, Sanofi Pasteur, Swiftwater, Pennsylvania) for all persons aged 11-18 years and for persons aged 2-55 years at increased risk for meningococcal disease. MCV4 is licensed as a single dose. Because of the high risk for meningococcal disease among certain groups and limited data on duration of protection, at its June 2009 meeting ACIP recommended that persons previously vaccinated with either MCV4 or MPSV4 (Menomune, Sanofi Pasteur) who are at prolonged increased risk

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the volume used and the indications for use of the human albumin solutions, stable plasma protein solution and normal serum albumin, in Victorian metropolitan teaching hospitals.
DESIGN: The Victorian Drug Usage Advisory Committee conducted a prospective audit by means of a questionnaire in three major Melbourne teaching hospitals over a three-month period. All bottles of the human albumin solutions issued were numbered and a questionnaire regarding indications for use was completed for each patient treated with either product.
OUTCOME MEASURES: The results were compar

While agreeing that the periodic evaluation of physicians is in the public interest, HANYS believes that the January 1988 Report contains numerous legal and practical problems, contradictions, and invalid assumptions that all call for a re-evaluation of this particular approach. As written, the proposal raises serious concerns regarding the conduct of peer review activities. Further, it may jeopardize the concerted efforts hospitals and their medical staffs are making to improve quality through peer review. Without a more in-depth, thorough, and thoughtful review of these issues, the implement

BACKGROUND: Adults 65 years of age and older are at higher risk of influenza complications, such as hospitalization and death. As a result, seasonal influenza immunization is particularly important for this group.
OBJECTIVE: This supplemental statement provides an evidence summary on the preferential use of one or more of the age-appropriate influenza vaccines for adults 65 years of age and older, over other age-appropriate influenza vaccines.
METHODS: The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI)'s Influenza Working Group undertook an overview of existing systematic reviews on the

BACKGROUND: It has been observed that replacement of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator generator in response to a device advisory may be associated with a substantial rate of complications, including death. The risk of lead revision in response to a lead advisory has not been determined previously.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Twenty-five implantable cardioverter-defibrillator implantation and follow-up centers from the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society Device Advisory Committee were surveyed to assess complication rates as a result of lead revisions due to the Sprint Fidelis advisory issued in O

In 2005, two tetanus toxoid, reduced diphtheria toxoid, and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccines were licensed and recommended for use in adults and adolescents in the United States: ADACEL (sanofi pasteur, Swiftwater, Pennsylvania), which is licensed for use in persons aged 11--64 years, and BOOSTRIX (GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals, Rixensart, Belgium), which is licensed for use in persons aged 10-18 years. This report updates, expands, and replaces the previously published CDC "Guideline for Prevention of Nosocomial Pneumonia". The new guidelines are designed to reduce the incidence of pneumonia and other severe, acute lower respiratory tract infections in acute-care hospitals and in other health-care settings (e.g., ambulatory and long-term care institutions) and other facilities where health care is provided. Among the changes in the recommendations to prevent bacterial pneumonia, especially ventilator-associated pneumonia, are the preferential use of oro-tracheal rather than naso-tracheal tub
