A broad spectrum of various substances may cause occupational allergic contact dermatitis. Often, it is difficult to identify potentially or truly relevant allergens at the workplace. Scratch tests were used to study the rate of sensitization to house dust mite allergens, mold and yeast-like fungi among the patients of an allergological center. It was found that 12.69 of the patients showed hypersensitivity only to one allergen. Combined forms of sensitization to two allergens or more were detected in 87.31% of the patients. Sensitization to mycotic allergens is more frequently encountered (82.84%) than that to house dust mite allergens (67.16%).

BACKGROUND: Hidden allergens in foods can induce allergic reactions. Currently it is not possible to estimate the exact prevalence of these reactions but they are clearly a growing problem.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to provide an overview of the role of hidden allergens (their importance, the types of food involved, and the severity of reactions) in allergic reactions in our geographical area.

Patch Test was done in 340 suspected allergic contact dermatitis patients having different ages of both sexes during the period of January 2000 to December 2003 in the department of Dermatology and Venerology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka. Previous studies established that Psilocybe cubensis contains potent allergens, and that a significant percentage of atopic subjects were sensitized to P. cubensis spores. An ability of rat thymus lymphocytes to respond to pollen allergens has been found. The lymphocytes were exposed with plasma of pollinosis patients. The subsequent addition of allergens specific for the patient caused the decrease of lymphocyte plasma membrane potential. The decrease was detected by use of potential-sensitive fluorescent probe 4-(p-dimethylaminostyryl)-1-methylpyridinium. This newly found effect can be employed for diagnostics of atopic states.
