Subacute ruminal acidosis in dairy cows occurs when ruminal pH is below about 5.5. However, the exact threshold level of ruminal pH affecting cow health is still in debate. This investigation was carried out in 505 cows within 31 farms. The effects of 2-buten-4-olide, an endogenous feeding suppressant, on the estrous cycle and LH secretion were studied to determine the influence of this compound on reproductive function. To determine the factors affecting reproductive efficiency in a seasonal breeding artificial insemination (AI) programme in dairy herds in Uruguay, a field trial was conducted on three dairy farms. Nineteen anestrous pony mares were used in a project designed to determine the effects of altered prolactin concentrations on follicular dynamics and endocrine profiles during spring transition. The dopamine antagonist, perphenazine, was administered daily to mares (0.375 mg/kg body weight) in Group A (n = 6), while Group B mares (n = 7) received 0.08 mg/kg metabolic weight (kg75) dopamine agonist, 2-bromo-ergocriptine, intramuscularly twice daily.
