The incidence of renal angiomyolipoma (RA) is 0.3% in the general population, and even more infrequent during pregnancy. Pregnancy can increase the risk of rupture, although the causal mechanism is still not clearly defined. We completed a Medline literature search for articles on RA and pregnancy and its complications. We identified 16 articles (all case reports), but selected only 13 because of unavailable data in the 3 other articles. We report the case of a 30-year-old primiparous woman who presented at the emergency ward with a non-reassuring pattern at fetal monitoring; an urgent cesarea

Angiomyolipomata of the kidney are unusual lesions composed of abnormal thick walled blood vessels, smooth muscle and adipose elements. These are asymptomatic and occasionally present with flank pain, a palpable mass or gross hematuria. They may be associated with tuberous sclerosis. The risk of bleeding is increased with size, and lesions greater than 4 cm have more than 50% chance of significant bleeding. An unusual case of multifocal renal angiomyolipoma associated with tuberous sclerosis and presenting as massive intra abdominal hemorrhage is reported.

OBJECTIVES: Although renal angiomyolipoma (AML) occurs more commonly in females than males, the origin of this difference in incidence by sex is unknown. Therefore, we investigated the expression of the androgen receptor (AR), estrogen receptor subtypes alpha (ERalpha) and beta (ERbeta), progesterone receptor, and the enzyme aromatase in renal AML.
METHODS: We evaluated specimens from 110 patients who had undergone resection of a renal AML, including 90 women and 20 men. Immunohistochemistry was performed using monoclonal antibodies on paraffin-embedded tissue sections. Expression was correla

We present a very rare case of retroperitoneal extrarenal angiomyolipoma (AML) with spontaneous rupture. A 67-year-old woman without tuberous sclerosis was admitted to our hospital complaining of sudden right flank pain. We suspected right renal AML with rupture by imaging analysis, but the diagnosis was extrarenal AML by surgery and pathological examination.

The existence of bilateral renal angiomyolipoma (AML) is fairly infrequent, especially when not associated with such syndromes as tuberous sclerosis or linfangioleimiomatosis. Here we present the case of a 40-year-old woman who was accidentally diagnosed at week 33rd of gestation by an ultrasound, of bilateral renal AML and that could be treated with kidney sparing conservative treatment. We have also done a review of the literature focusing on its management and its relationship with pregnancy.

Angiomyolipoma is a lesion usually observed in the kidney of patients with tuberous sclerosis. Extrarenal sites are very unusual with sporadic cases in internal organ, soft tissue and skin (fifteen cases have been described in this site). Herein we describe an adding case located on the ear in 58-year-old man reviewing the pertinent literature. The main diagnostic differential criteria are also discussed.

Renal Angiomyolipoma (AML) is a rare benign tumor As it is usually asymptomatic and small, AML sometimes may cause acute abdomen by spontaneous rupture and hemorrhage that may be life threatening in some cases for which surgical management is necessary. A 58-year-old female patient was admitted for right side and right upper abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Right upper abdominal and right side sensitivity were remarkable on physical examination. Whole blood count revealed the ongoing with steady remarkable decrement in hematocrite and hemoglobin. Radiological examination showed right kidne

This is a presentation of a case of tuberous sclerosis with multifocal hamartomas in the retroperitoneum, both kidneys, and the liver. Lymphangiectasia and numerous ectatic lymphatic channels penetrating through the retroperitoneal angiomyolipoma were demonstrated by lymphography and computed tomography. The findings in our study may document the presence of degenerative change in the lymphatic system--not just in elastic vessels--an association which has not yet been reported in the radiological literature.

4 Patients with renal angiomyolipomas are presented. One of them had tuberous sclerosis with synchronous bilateral tumors. All the patients were symptomatic, 2 of them with retroperitoneal hemorrhage. In all patients selective arterial embolization was performed. Permanent control of the symptoms was successful in 2 patients. In 1 patient temporary resolution of the symptoms was observed, and a second embolization was required. Retroperitoneal bleeding in 1 patient continued and nephrectomy was undertaken.

OBJECTIVE: We present our experience with 15 patients with renal angiomyolipoma warranting intervention.
METHODS: The medical records and radiological studies were reviewed for patient age and sex, tumor location and size, association with tuberous sclerosis, and treatment approach. All patients were regularly followed by ultrasound and computed tomography scan.
RESULTS: Presenting symptoms were retroperitoneal bleeding in 9 patients and flank pain in 6. Excluding cases of tuberous sclerosis (mean tumor diameter 11 cm), the mean diameter of the two tumors that bled was 5.4 cm, similar to tho

Angiomyolipomas were found in 42 kidneys in 23 female and 8 male patients at our medical center. Angiomyolipoma was diagnosed by computerized tomography (CT) alone in 55% of the cases, and by a combination of ultrasound and CT in 36%. Nine of 11 patients with bilateral angiomyolipoma had associated tuberous sclerosis. Treatment consisted of observation in 22 patients, selective arterial embolization in 6, partial nephrectomy in 6 and nephrectomy in 8. A total of 17 patients who were observed had tumors smaller than 4 cm. and 4 h had angiomyolipoma of 4 to 10 cm. With a mean followup of 3.8 yea

Angiomyolipoma (AML) is a benign tumor comprised of a mixture of vessels ("angio"), smooth muscle ("myo"), and adipose tissue ("lipo"). It belongs to a group of unusual mesenchymal tumors with myogenic and melanocytic differentiation known as perivascular epithelioid cell tumors. AMLs are commonly sporadic tumors but may be associated with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) and/or lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM). The imaging appearance of AMLs strongly correlates with the pathologic findings. Fat is detectable in the vast majority of AMLs, and these tumors are referred to as classic AMLs. Fat-poo

Angiomyolipomas (AML) are benign mesenchymal tumour with varying proportion of matured fat cells, thick walled vessels and smooth muscle cells. Nasal angiomyolipomas are exceedingly rare and usually present as small tumour in middle aged and old men. This is a case of 86 years old male who presented in the ENT OPD with the swelling in the right nasolabial fold for 2 months. He underwent excision of the mass under general anesthesia and the histopathological examination proved to be angiomyolipoma of nose.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Epithelioid hepatic angiomyolipoma (HAML) is a rare benign tumor predominantly found in women. Its occurrence during pregnancy is extremely rare. Accurate diagnosis of HAML is challenging due to its radiological resemblance to other hepatic neoplasms. We present a case of epithelioid HAML in a pregnant patient, highlighting the diagnostic and management challenges encountered.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 24-year-old pregnant female, in her fifth month of pregnancy, presented with right hypochondrium pain and nausea. Radiological imaging suggested the possibility of a hep

Pulmonary lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), a rare, progressive disease predominantly affecting the lungs of women of reproductive age, is often associated with renal angiomyolipoma (AML). We report the case of a 29-year-old female patient who presented to our obstetrics department at 37 weeks' gestation, complaining of abdominal pain, and constipation. Ultrasound noted a viable singleton with a large left-sided abdominal mass. After undergoing a caesarean section, she was referred to our urology department to assess her flank mass further. Computed tomography demonstrated a large, exophytic lef

Renal Angiomyolipoma (AML) is not commonly seen in the pediatric age group other than patients of tuberous sclerosis where in they can have renal AMLs within the first decade with bilateral in involvement. Diagnosis of renal AML can generally be made by the current radiological modalities in the appropriate clinical setting, but it can be mistaken for other tumors when it is large and has low-fat content. Herein we report a case of giant renal AML that was initially misdiagnosed as a Wilms tumor in a 12-year-old girl.

A 63-year-old lady, presented to us with nonspecific abdominal pain. Ultrasonography (USG) and CT scan abdomen and pelvis, showed right moderate hydronephrosis, with no evidence of mass at pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction. Per-operatively mass upper ureter was found obstructing PUJ. Mass was excised and pyeloplasty done, with Double J (DJ) Stenting. Stent was removed after a week. Histopathology of specimen showed upper ureteric Angiomyolipoma.
