INTRODUCTION: azoospermia affects more than 10%-15% of infertile male subjects attending the infertility center. In Morocco, there have been no studies on male infertility with azoospermia. Thereby, our objective was to evaluate the clinical, hormonal, and genetic characteristics of infertile men with azoospermia in Morocco.
METHODS: we conducted a retrospective descriptive study performed with a convenience sample of 80 infertile men from 2021 to 2022, in the Assisted Reproductive Technology Unit of the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Oujda-Morocco. All patients with azoospermia we

Background: Non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) is the most severe form of male infertility. Currently, the molecular mechanisms underlying NOA pathology have not yet been elucidated. Hence, elucidation of the mechanisms of NOA and exploration of potential biomarkers are essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment of this disease. In the present study, we aimed to screen for biomarkers and pathways involved in NOA and reveal their potential molecular mechanisms using integrated bioinformatics. Methods: We downloaded two gene expression datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database.

Subfertility is a risk factor for testicular cancers (TT), and conversely, TT may induce subfertility due to local and regional toxic effects. We aimed to identify the association between TT characteristics and pre-orchidectomy azoospermia. A systematic review of the literature was performed according to the PRISMA checklist. Overall, eight non-randomised studies involving 469 men with TT (azoospermia, n = 57; no azoospermia n = 412) were included in the qualitative analysis. Bilateral TT (12.3% vs 2.9% in non-azoospermia), non-seminoma germ cell tumours (6.4% vs 1.9%), germ cell neoplasia in-

Nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) can be caused by various diseases, including congenital disorders, endocrine disorders, infections, tumor or tumor-like diseases, vascular diseases, etc. Diagnosis of the underlying cause of NOA is complicated and challenging. In this study, we introduce an MR examination protocol for the etiological diagnosis of NOA, and demonstrate a series of NOA patients with different causes and imaging findings. Except for lesions of testes, the patients may also combine abnormalities of adrenal glands and central nervous system. In such cases, the patients could benefit

Our objective was to assess the differential diagnostic value of classification of obstructive versus nonobstructive azoospermia by scrotal ultrasound. Forty patients with azoospermia were selected for our study (ages, 23-35; average, 29 ± 5.34 years). Patients were divided into the obstructive (17) or nonobstructive (23) azoospermia category. Twenty "Работает" volunteers were selected for the control group. We observed the testis, epididymis, and vas deferens in all subjects. Testicular volumes were calculated and compared with the control group for both obstructive and nonobstructive groups.

Tubular ectasia of the rete testis (TERT) is a rare benign condition of the testis due to dilatation of the tubules of the rete testis. It must be differentiated from neoplastic disease of the testis clinically by patient's age, mode of presentation, tumour marker status and characteristic ultrasound and colour Doppler findings. Awareness and diagnosis of TERT should prevent unnecessary surgical intervention such as orchidectomy or biopsy. We report a case of severe bilateral tubular ectasia of the rete testis associated with azoospermia and review the relevant literature. This association has

Genetic factors have a major importance in male infertility etiology. Numerical and structural chromosomal abnormalities seem to be frequent inoligospermia and azoospermia cases with unknown etiology. In this study, 819 patients with azoospermia (383) and oligospermia (436) who attended the infertility department between 1995-2005 were evaluated. Spermogram and basic hormone proties (FSH-testosterone) were studied two times in a one month interval from each patient, and all the cases were evaluated cytogenetically. The 47 (12%) of 383 azoospermia patients and the 20 (4%) of 436 oligospermia pa

About 30-40% of male infertility is due to unknown reasons. Genetic contributions to the disruption of spermatogenesis are suggested and amongst the genetic factors studied, Y chromosome microdeletions represent the most common one. Screening for microdeletions in AZFa, b and c region of Y chromosome showed a big variation among different studies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of such deletions in Saudi men. A total of 257 patients with idiopathic oligo- or azoospermia were screened for Y chromosome microdeletions by 19 markers in AZF region. Ten (3.9%) patients h

Since epididymal and testicular spermatozoa of azoospermic patients are frequently used for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), many studies have been carried out to evaluate their karyotype. This article will review all published data on this topic. In most of the studies, spermatozoa have been retrieved from the testis or the epididymis of patients with nonobstructive (NOA) or obstructive (OA) azoospermia, respectively. Sperm aneuploidy has been evaluated by fluorescence in situ hybridization using probes for sex chromosomes and an array of autosomes. A significantly higher sperm aneupl

Since its introduction in 1992, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) has made the treatment of severe male infertility possible, particularly that of azoospermia, both secretory and secretory. Some azoospermic subjects have a pathological development of the seminal pathways, and in particular of the vas deferens and/or ejaculatory ducts. A large part of these subjects show, like patients affected by cystic fibrosis, mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane regulator (CFTR) gene. Some of these azoospermic subjects are indeed paucisymptomatic fibrosis cystic patients who bear the risk o

BACKGROUND: Male infertility due to severe oligozoospermia and azoospermia has been associated with a number of genetic risk factors.
METHODS: In this study 150 men from couples requesting ICSI were investigated for genetic abnormalities, such as constitutive chromosome abnormalities, microdeletions of the Y chromosome (AZF region) and mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene.
RESULTS: Genetic analysis identified 16/150 (10.6%) abnormal karyotypes, 8/150 (5.3%) AZFc deletions and 14/150 (9.3%) CFTR gene mutations. An abnormal karyotype was found both i

Open testicular biopsy is a classic method of investigation in men with azoospermia. Recently, percutaneous needle biopsy of the testis has been used in attempts to obtain material for histopathological diagnosis in such cases and to retrieve spermatozoa for intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). To determine whether a 19 gauge (G) and a 21G butterfly needle could be used for percutaneous aspiration of testicular tissue to determine the presence of mature spermatids and assess spermatogenesis, 10 patients (16 testes) and 12 patients (17 testes) underwent 19G or 21G needle biopsy respectively

Between 1984-1991 in 28 patients referred for the surgical treatment for the reason of obstruction of epididymis outlet ducts there was a suspicion of a congenital epididymis malformation put after the physical examination. The ultrasound examination of the scrotum which was performed in all cases revealed the proper view of the epididymis in 5 cases, the proper head of the epididymis with the broad tubules and the lack of the corpus and cauda in 19 cases and in 4 cases the residual head of the epididymis located in region of the upper pole of the testis. Intraoperative findings were consisten

A case of immotile-cilia syndrome associated with azoospermia is presented. This diagnosis is based on a typical history of bronchitis, sinusitis, situs inversus, impaired nasal mucociliary clearance and characteristic ultrastructural defect in the respiratory tract cilia and in the sperm tail. Semen analysis showed azoospermia with no evidence of obstruction in the epididymis or vas deferens; there was normal spermatogenesis.

Stem cells hold great promise as novel and encouraging therapeutic tools in the treatment of degenerative disorders due to their differentiation potential while maintaining the capability to self-renewal and their unlimited ability to divide and regenerate tissue. A variety of different types of stem cells can be used in cell therapy. Among these, mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy has gradually established itself as a novel method for treating damaged tissues that need restoration and renewal. Male infertility is an important health challenge affecting approximately 8-12% of people around th

Chemotherapeutic drugs will affect the process of spermatogenesis. However, most current studies on the effects of chemotherapeutic drugs on spermatogenesis are based on mouse models, with a shortage of human body evidence. In addition, the mechanism of chemotherapeutic drugs causing spermatogenesis disorder is not clear. Therefore, we have collected the testicular tissues of an inguinal-lipoma patient whose testes were resected after chemotherapy and a patient who had normal spermatogenesis disorder and underwent single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-Seq). After quality control, we obtained a

Non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) is characterized by the failure of sperm production due to testicular disorders and represents the most severe form of male infertility. Growing evidences have indicated that gene defects could be the potential cause of NOA via genome-wide sequencing approaches. Here, bi-allelic deleterious variants in meiosis inhibitor protein 1 (MEI1) were identified by whole-exome sequencing in four Chinese patients with NOA. Testicular pathologic analysis and immunohistochemical staining revealed that spermatogenesis is arrested at spermatocyte stage, with defective progra
