Enhanced specificity in molecular imprinting: A dual-role chitosan-bentonite substrate coupled with hierarchical monomers for ultrasensitive diclofenac potassium and metabolite enrichment.

Diclofenac potassium (DCF-K) is a widely used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug with enhanced therapeutic effects mediated by its bioactive metabolites, particularly 4'-hydroxydiclofenac (4'-OH-DCF) and 5-hydroxydiclofenac (5-OH-DCF). However, the accurate detection of DCF-K and its metabolites in complex biological matrices remains challenging due to trace concentrations and matrix interference. To address this challenge, a chitosan-bentonite molecularly imprinted polymer (CB-MIP) was developed using a dual-role strategy, where chitosan-bentonite (CB) serves as both substrate and functional

Effective adsorption of Congo red azo dye from different water and wastewater by using porous Fe3O4-bentonite@chitosan nanocomposite: A multivariate optimization.

In this study, a novel Fe3O4-Chitosan@Bentonite (Fe3O4-CS/Bent) nanocomposite was synthesized via a green and scalable co-precipitation method for the efficient adsorption of toxic azo dye Congo Red (CR) from wastewater. To analyze the physicochemical changes in nanocomposite before and after CR adsorption SEM-EDS, FTIR, XRD, BET, and VSM were employed. The results revealed that Fe3O4-CS/Bent nanocomposite shows significantly enhanced surface area, pore volume, and adsorption capacity compared to pure Fe3O4 NPs, making it highly effective for environmental remediation. Despite its lower magnet

Facile conversion and eco-friendly carbon-bentonite nano sheets synthesis from waste PET bottles and application in Cr6+ removal from aqueous solution.

Plastics are extensively utilised in all aspects of life owing to their durability and low price. Global production of polyethylene and polypropylene (the most common microplastics in soil and water) is increasing at an annual rate of approximately 7%. However, owing to the weak plastic natural degradation, low recycling rate, and potential ecological and health risks, the environmental issues brought on by plastic accumulation in marine and land environments have garnered international attention. To protect the environment, waste minimisation, reuse, and recycling processes should be develope

Activated carbons as potentially useful non-nutritive additives to prevent the effect of fumonisin B1 on sodium bentonite activity against chronic aflatoxicosis.

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and fumonisin B1 (FB1) are mycotoxins that often co-occur in feedstuffs. The ingestion of AFB1 causes aflatoxicosis in humans and animals. Sodium bentonite (NaB), a cheap non-nutritive unselective sequestering agent incorporated in animal diets, can effectively prevent aflatoxicosis. Fumonisins are responsible for equine leukoencephalomalacia and porcine pulmonary oedema, and often have subclinical toxic effects in poultries. Fumonisin B1 and aflatoxin B1 are both strongly adsorbed in vitro on sodium bentonite. Co-adsorption studies, carried out with a weight ratio of FB1 t

Influence of pH, soil humic/fulvic acid, ionic strength, foreign ions and addition sequences on adsorption of Pb(II) onto GMZ bentonite.

This work contributed to the adsorption of Pb(II) onto GMZ bentonite in the absence and presence of soil humic acid (HA)/fulvic acid (FA) using a batch technique. The influences of pH from 2 to 12, ionic strengths from 0.004M to 0.05M NaNO(3), soil HA/FA concentrations from 1.6 mg/L to 20mg/L, foreign cations (Li+, Na+, K+), anions (Cl(-), NO(3)(-)), and addition sequences on the adsorption of Pb(II) onto GMZ bentonite were tested. The adsorption isotherms of Pb(II) were determined at pH 3.6+/-0.1 and simulated with the Langmuir, Freundlich, and D-R adsorption models, respectively. The results

Sodium polyacrylate-modified bentonite-fly ash composite for coal gangue backfill sites: A sustainable strategy for enhanced impermeability and immobilization of heavy metals.

The safe disposal of coal gangue, a massive solid waste in mining regions, is hindered by risks of heavy metal leaching and groundwater pollution. Conventional bentonite-fly ash (BF) liners face a fundamental trade-off between low hydraulic conductivity and adequate mechanical strength. To overcome this limitation, this study developed a novel, low-cost quaternary composite (BFS) by modifying BF with sodium polyacrylate (SP) and incorporating locally sourced silt (FS). The optimal mix ratio (Bent: FA: FS: SP = 65:35:37.5:4) was determined via response surface methodology to simultaneously meet

Preparation of microscale zero-valent iron-fly ash-bentonite composite and evaluation of its adsorption performance of crystal violet and methylene blue dyes.

New microscale zero-valent iron adsorbent on fly ash and bentonite matrix for removal of crystal violet (CV) and methylene blue (MB) was synthesized through direct reduction of iron oxide using coke and palm kernel shell. The adsorbent was prepared as cylindrical shaped pellets to remove the CV and MB from the aqueous solution. Nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherm and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies showed that the adsorbent is highly porous, and the iron particles are finely dispersed on the supporting material surfaces. FTIR and UV studies indicated that the C=C bonds in CV and

Use of Humic Acids, Zeolite and Bentonite to Mitigate Iron Toxicity and Improve Growth Parameters and Chemical Composition in Maize (Zea mays L.).

Soil contamination with metals is a significant environmental problem that can adversely affect the growth of crops and the quality of yields. Among potentially toxic elements, iron plays a particularly important role, as excessive amounts of it disrupt physiological processes and plant nutrition. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of varying levels of iron contamination in the soil and the effectiveness of selected neutralising substances in mitigating iron stress on the growth, mass, SPAD index and chemical composition of maize biomass. In the absence of additives, excessive iron

The effects of different doses of lanthanum-modified bentonite in combination with a submerged macrophyte (Vallisneria denseserrulata) on phosphorus inactivation and macrophyte growth: A mesocosm study.

The combination of chemical phosphorus (P) inactivation and submerged macrophyte transplantation has been widely used in lake restoration as it yields stronger effects than when applying either method alone. However, the dose effect of chemical materials on P inactivation when used in combination with submerged macrophytes and the influences of the chemicals used on the submerged macrophytes growth remain largely unknown. In this study, we investigated P inactivation in both the water column and the sediment, and the responses of submerged macrophytes to Lanthanum modified bentonite (LMB) in a

Fe-Exchanged Natural Bentonites from Kazakhstan as Multifunctional Solids for Decontamination from Hazardous Chemicals: Structure-Reactivity Relationships Under Mild Conditions.

Iron-exchanged bentonites derived from a natural montmorillonite-rich clay (Taganskoe deposit, Kazakhstan) were prepared through a simple aqueous ion-exchange route using Fe(II) or Fe(III) inorganic salt precursors, yielding final Fe contents of ca. 5-7 wt.%, while preserving the smectite layered framework. A mild thermal treatment under air was applied to tune iron coordination without triggering major structural collapse. The resulting materials were characterized by ED-XRF, PXRD, FE-SEM/EDX, DLS/ζ-potential and DR UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, revealing predominantly exchanged Fe species with a

The ameliorative effects of Nigella sativa, thymoquinone, and bentonite against aflatoxicosis in broilers via AFAR and Nrf2 signalling pathways, and down-regulation of caspase-3.

1. Aflatoxins (AFs) are metabolites which especially have toxic effects on proteins, and are detoxified by the aflatoxin-B1 aldehyde reductase (AFAR) pathway. In this pathway, the aldo-keto reductase family 7, member A2 (AKR7A2) enzyme, which is controlled by nucleic-related erythroid factor 2 (Nrf2), plays an active role. However, data on the efficacy of this critical pathway in broilers is limited.2. The aim of the following study was to investigate the changes in the expression levels of AKR7A2, Nrf2, and caspase-3, and the effects of Nigella sativa seeds (NS), thymoquinone (TMQ), and bento

The use of chitosan as alternative to bentonite for wine fining: Effects on heat-stability, proteins, organic acids, colour, and volatile compounds in an aromatic white wine.

This investigation focuses on the use of chitosan treatment simulating a bentonite fining in order to detect any modification of the wine haze potential by simultaneously evaluating the secondary effects on untargeted fixed and volatile compounds. A significant removal of chitinases was observed after fining an aromatic white wine with 1 g/L of a fungoid chitosan. Even if the more stable thaumatin like protein fractions were not significantly affected, the heat stability of the fined chitosan wine samples were highly improved in the 55-62 °C range. Among the secondary effects of a fining treat
