CD56 expression has been reported previously in some non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) characterization. They principally involve the nasopharynx, are related to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and may be classified as either T- or non-T-natural killer (NK) cells according to CD3/T-cell receptor (TCR) status at the genomic or protein level. The present study reports three cases of non-nasal NK-NHL with the following characteristics: an agressive clinical behavior, heterogenous morphological data evoking pleomorphic T-cell malignant lymphoma, a non-T-NK phenotype using flow cytometry, and immunochemistry.

Mycosis fungoides (MF) represents the most common type of primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Recognition of MF variants with divergent immunophenotypes is important for accurate diagnosis and appropriate management, as they can be confused with other lymphoma subtypes. PURPOSE: Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading cause of infectious disease related mortality, and only 10% of the infected individuals develop active disease. The likelihood of progression of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) to active TB disease is high in HIV infected individuals. Identification of HIV+ individuals at risk would allow treating targeted population, facilitating completion of therapy for LTBI and prevention of TB development. NK cells have an important role in T cell independent immunity against TB, but the exact role of NK cell subsets in LTBI and HIV is not well characterized.

We report the case of a 20 year-old caucasian woman who presented a primary subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma (SPTCL) as an invasive tumor of the chest wall. A novel interleukin-2 (IL-2)-dependent cell line, HANK1, was established from a patient with CD56+ NK/T-cell lymphoma arising in the retroperitoneum. Morphologically, HANK1 is a pleomorphic large cell line with irregular nuclei, which contains azurophilic granules in the cytoplasm. Immunophenotypic analysis showed that HANK1 expressed CD2, CD3epsilon, CD56, TIA-1, granzyme B, and HLA-DR, but no other T-lineage markers. These features were the same as seen in the original tumour, and are highly characteristic of nasal and 'nasal-type' NK/T-cell lymphoma as described in the proposed W.H.O. class
