Oleanolic acid displayed anti-inflammatory activity in carrageenan and dextran-induced oedema in rats. It elicited marked anti-arthritic action in adjuvant-induced polyarthritis in rats and mice and in formaldehyde-induced arthritis in rats. Oleanolic acid checked the inflammation-induced increased serum transaminase levels. It reduced exudate volume and inhibited leucocyte infiltration in carrageenan-induced pleurisy in rats. It is devoid of any analgesic, antipyretic or ulcerogenic action. Oleanolic acid did not affect the parturition time in pregnant rats or castor oil-induced diarrhoea in

Mallotus paniculatus (Lam.), a member of the Euphorbiaceae Juss family, is a little tree or shrub that has long been used in folk medicine to cure ailments like fever, wound healing, and postpartum recuperation. In this study, Swiss albino mice were used to evaluate the analgesic, antipyretic, and antidiarrheal properties of the acetone extract of M. paniculatus (AMP). Standard screening techniques were used to identify the phytochemical ingredients. Three models were used to evaluate analgesic activity: the tail immersion test, formalin-induced paw licking, and acetic acid-induced writhing. A

The surfaces of underwater ship hulls and aquaculture equipment, such as fish cages, are highly susceptible to damage from fouling organisms. Although traditional marine antifouling coatings exhibit effective antifouling properties, the leaching of antifouling agents into the marine environment can lead to pollution and ecological disruption. In this study, we prepared castor oil polyurethane (CO-PU) by reacting castor oil with isocyanate. We then incorporated self-synthesized acrylamide-based quaternary ammonium salts (QASs), specifically dimethyloctylaminopropyl methacrylamide-ammonium QD-BC

BACKGROUND: Traditional healers in Ethiopia use a wide range of medicinal plants with antidiarrheal properties. Among these, Croton macrostachyus is one such plant claimed to have an antidiarrheal activity in Ethiopian folklore medicine. Previous studies showed that the crude extract is endowed with the claimed property. The present study was undertaken to further the claim by screening different fractions for the said activity so that it could serve as a basis for subsequent studies.
METHODS: The fractions were obtained by successive extraction in soxhlet apparatus with solvents of different

The prospects of wider application of testosterone (T) in novel indications such as male contraception have prompted renewed interest in the investigation of nonreproductive actions and safety of androgens. This study investigated potential changes in mood and behavior in response to elevations in circulating T concentrations produced by the new long-acting preparation, T undecanoate (TU). Twenty-eight eugonadal men were randomized into one of two treatment groups: A1) active, receiving 1000 mg TU i.m. followed by A2) washout, followed by A3) placebo, receiving 4 ml castor oil i.m.; B1) placeb
