In mid-1960s Montréal, a team of psychiatrists affiliated with the city's Jewish General Hospital identified a disturbing trend in their family therapy practice. The children of concentration camp survivors exhibited forms of severe maladjustment and psychopathology despite their parents' seeming good mental health. For almost 45 years, the experience of Jewish children who were hidden during World War II was considered to be of little importance, particularly with respect to what had taken place in the concentration camps. To elucidate in vitro the transience of glucagon-induced hepatic glucose release, the effects of glucagon on hepatic glucose production and cAMP release were evaluated in the isolated rat liver preparation perfused by a nonrecirculating system.
