Amyloidosis can involve the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, and deposition can present with varied histologic patterns that make recognition challenging. Four neocortical regions (frontal, parietal, temporal, occipital) of 44 cases were impregnated by a silver stain to show neuritic plaques and stained with Congo red to show amyloid plaques. The neurodegenerative diseases described in this volume, as well as many nonneurodegenerative diseases, are characterized by deposits known as amyloid. BACKGROUND: Amyloid, presenting as a mass, is termed amyloidoma. Among the reported cases, fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of amyloid is often misinterpreted as acellular nondiagnostic material.
METHODS: A computer search of all FNAs was performed and cases diagnosed as amyloidoma were identified.
RESULTS: Among 11,956 cases and 20,634 FNAs, there were six cases and 12 FNAs of amyloidoma. An unprecedented synthesis method is used to form a series of Ce-UiO-66-X (X = NH2, OH, H, NO2, COOH) metal-organic frameworks by precipitation from mixed solvents, with instantaneous crystallisation on combining separate solutions of ligands and metal precursors.
