[Right ventricle-dependent coronary circulation in pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum. Absence of origin of the coronary arteries from the aorta].

This report describes the clinical, echocardiographic and angiographic aspects of a five-day old boy with pulmonary atresia and intact ventricular septum. Both the echocardiogram and the aortography did not show any coronary arteries arising from the aorta. Two-dimensional echocardiography was able to identify the coronary arteries originating from the right ventricle and so did the right ventricular angiogram. No retrograde flow into the aorta or pulmonary trunk was identified after opacification of the coronary arteries. As far as we know this is the first case diagnosed by echocardiography,

Transthoracic Echocardiographic Assessment of Coronary Flow in the Diagnosis of Right Ventricular-Dependent Coronary Circulation in Pulmonary Atresia with Intact Ventricular Septum.

Right ventricular-dependent coronary circulation (RVDCC) is associated with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum and is defined by two or more epicardial coronary arteries with atresia or severe stenosis resulting in the dependency of coronary supply by retrograde flow. The hypothesis of this study is that coronary Doppler flow patterns on echocardiography can be used to distinguish patients with RVDCC. Between 2007 and 2016, we reviewed 16 patients with pulmonary atresia or critical pulmonary stenosis. Patients were divided into two groups, those with RVDCC (determined by angiogra

Circulating CTRP9 and aortic valve calcification jointly predict coronary artery calcification in coronary heart disease patients.

BACKGROUND: Vascular calcification predicts adverse cardiovascular outcomes. CTRP9, an adiponectin paralog, has vascular protective effects. We evaluated the association of circulating CTRP9 with aortic valve calcification (AVC) and coronary artery calcification (CAC) in a cross-sectional observational study. METHODS: Nine hundred coronary heart disease patients underwent echocardiography and optical coherence tomography; serum CTRP9 was measured in a subset. Logistic regression identified CAC determinants. ROC analysis assessed CTRP9 alone and combined with AVC for predicting severe CAC. AVC

Coronary Collateral Growth Induced by Physical Exercise: Results of the Impact of Intensive Exercise Training on Coronary Collateral Circulation in Patients With Stable Coronary Artery Disease (EXCITE) Trial.

BACKGROUND: A well-developed coronary collateral circulation provides a potential source of blood supply in coronary artery disease. However, the prognostic importance and functional relevance of coronary collaterals is controversial with the association between exercise training and collateral growth still unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS: This prospective, open-label study randomly assigned 60 patients with significant coronary artery disease (fractional flow reserve ≤0.75) to high-intensity exercise (group A, 20 patients) or moderate-intensity exercise (group B, 20 patients) for 4 weeks or to

Advanced imaging in an adult dog with anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery and extensive collateral coronary circulation.

A three-year-old, spayed female, Bichon Frise was diagnosed with an anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery, a rare congenital coronary artery defect which has only been reported in two other dogs. Echocardiography was initially performed, though the final diagnosis was made with angiography and computed tomography angiography. An extensive network of collateral coronary circulation allowed for communication between the dilated, tortuous right coronary artery, and the anomalous left coronary artery. Though collateral circulation likely prolonged the patient's lif

Anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery in an adult with systemic collateral circulation to the left coronary artery.

A case of anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery in an adult with collateral circulation between the left coronary artery and systemic extracardiac vessels is reported. After evaluating the surgical options, my colleagues and I conclude that ligation of the left coronary artery and a left internal thoracic artery graft to the left anterior descending coronary artery is the preferable option for treating such patients.

The HALP Score and Its Association With Coronary Collateral Circulation Development in Chronic Total Occlusion Patients.

BACKGROUND: Coronary collateral circulation plays a crucial compensatory role in patients with chronic total occlusion (CTO) by providing alternative blood flow pathways. The HALP score (hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet) integrates systemic inflammation and nutritional status, but its relationship with collateral development in CTO patients remains unexplored. AIMS: This study aimed to evaluate the association between HALP score and coronary collateral circulation quality assessed by Werner classification in CTO patients. METHODS: This retrospective cross-sectional study include

Effects of Pharmacologic, Non-Pharmacologic, and Exercise-Based Interventions on Coronary Collateral Circulation: A Scoping Review.

INTRODUCTION: Coronary collaterals are vascular connections that bridge epicardial arteries and supply blood to the oxygen-deprived myocardium in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). This comprehensive review aimed to identify and evaluate potential interventions that may enhance the growth of coronary collateral vessels. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review of five databases to identify relevant studies that focused on interventions that may promote coronary collateral circulation in patients with CAD. RESULTS: Our search identified 23 studies that met our inclusion criteria. Stud

Detection of ADTRP in circulation and its role as a novel biomarker for coronary artery disease.

Androgen dependent tissue factor pathway inhibitor regulating protein (ADTRP) is a novel protein associated with coronary artery disease (CAD) susceptibility, and reduced mRNA expression of ADTRP was shown to be associated with increased CAD risk. This study aimed to determine and compare circulating ADTRP levels between CAD patients and controls, and to test the performance of plasma ADTRP as a biomarker for CAD. We measured plasma ADTRP, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and high sensitivity-C reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in 362 CAD patients, 150 angiographically

Anomalous septal perforator artery: a source for supportive circulation in severe coronary artery disease--case reports.

Anomalous origin of a septal perforator artery is an infrequent angiographic finding. However, its recognition is important in patients with coronary artery disease in order to avoid misdiagnosis and consequent management mistake. In 2 patients, coronary arteriography demonstrated an anomalous septal perforator artery supplying significant blood flow to a myocardial region previously perfused by a severely obstructed major coronary vessel. It appears that an anomalous septal artery can serve as an important source for supportive circulation in severe coronary artery disease.

Takayasu's arteritis with collateral circulation from the right coronary artery to intracranial vessels--a case report.

A forty-four-year-old woman with Takayasu's arteritis and involvement of the aortic arch and its main branches complained of precordial pain on effort. Exercise electrocardiograms revealed significant ST segment depression in leads II, III, aVF, and V. Coronary arteriograms demonstrated no stenosis. However, the right coronary arteriogram revealed collateral circulation arising from the sinus node artery to the bilateral vertebral arteries and the left internal carotid artery. The collateral circulation was considered to be an important route of blood flow supply to the brain and, at the same

[Postoperative cognitive dysfunction in elderly patients after aorta-coronary bypass under conditions of artificial blood circulation.].

In patients undergoing open myocardial revascularization under cardiopulmonary bypass (CB), one of the complications is cognitive dysfunction. The aim of the work is to study the effect of intraoperative lactic acidosis, anemia and the duration of myocardial anoxia on the change in cognitive status with the help of FAB after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) with CB. The negative impact of lactic acidosis on cognitive status in patients after CABG has been proven. The relationship between the decrease in hemoglobin concentration during surgery and the negative dynamics of cognitive change

Differential contributions of cardiac, coronary and pulmonary artery vagal mechanoreceptors to reflex control of the circulation.

Distinct populations of stretch-sensitive mechanoreceptors attached to myelinated vagal afferents are found in the heart and adjoining coronary and pulmonary circulations. Receptors at atrio-venous junctions appear to be involved in control of intravascular volume. These atrial receptors influence sympathetic control of the heart and kidney, but contribute little to reflex control of systemic vascular resistance. Baroreceptors at the origins of the coronary circulation elicit reflex vasodilatation, like feedback control from systemic arterial baroreceptors, as well as having characteristics th

Diagnosis and management of right ventricle-dependent coronary circulation in pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum.

BACKGROUND: Coronary artery anomalies including 1) right ventricle (RV)-to-coronary artery fistulas, 2) coronary artery stenoses, and 3) coronary occlusions occur in patients with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum (PA-IVS). In some, a large part of the coronary blood supply may depend on the RV. This RV-dependent coronary circulation may determine survival after right ventricular decompression (RVD): RVD may cause RV "steal" in the presence of fistulas alone and ischemia, coronary isolation, or myocardial infarction in the presence of coronary stenoses. METHODS AND RESULTS: Eig

A decrease in the percentage of circulating mDC precursors in patients with coronary heart disease: a relation to the severity and extent of coronary artery lesions?

Inflammation plays a pivotal role in coronary heart disease. Dendritic cells (DCs) are principal players in inflammation and atherosclerosis. Although the percentage of circulating DC precursors in coronary heart disease have been investigated, circulating myeloid DC (mDC) and plasmacytoid DC (pDC) precursors have not been extensively studied, particularly in relation to the severity of coronary artery lesions in patients with coronary heart disease. In this study, we recruited controls (n = 29), patients with stable angina pectoris (SAP, n = 30), patients with unstable angina pectoris (UAP, n
