The sanitation in restrooms to respiratory health: modelling concentration distribution changes of bioaerosols across buildings with/without semi-open settings.

The sanitation of buildings raises concerns due to pathogen release from restrooms. Herein, bioaerosol pollution profiles from buildings' public restrooms with/without semi-open settings were comparatively analyzed in two cities of China. For the GD building in Southern China with semi-open setting restrooms, the cultivable microbial concentration (Cbio) peaked on 2.1-3.3 μm particles (483-1107 CFU/m3) during the evening with high RH (90 %). Furthermore, the lower the floor, the higher the Cbio on 2.1-3.3 μm particles. For the LN building in Northern China without semi-open setting restrooms,

Purification and characterization of a major cross-reactive allergen from Epicoccum purpurascens.

BACKGROUND: Epicoccum purpurascens (formerly nigrum) (EP), is a ubiquitous saprophytic mould found both indoors and outdoors. Several studies have reported sensitization to EP in 5-7% of different populations worldwide. The diagnosis of mould allergy requires a standardized fungal extract that contains all its important allergenic proteins. The crude allergen extract from EP was standardized earlier, however none of its allergens have been purified. METHODS: A major allergen from spore-mycelia extract of EP was purified using concanavalin A (Con A) Sepharose chromatography, gel filtration and

Diagnostic criteria for allergic fungal sinusitis.

Diagnostic criteria for allergic fungal sinusitis have not been established, and clinical information consists primarily of isolated case reports. We proposed five diagnostic criteria for allergic fungal sinusitis including: (1) the demonstration of the characteristic eosinophil-rich allergic mucin visually or histopathologically, (2) a positive fungal stain or culture from the sinus at surgery, and (3) the absence of immunodeficiency or diabetes. With these criteria, seven patients in our metropolitan area with allergic fungal sinusitis were identified in a short period. Initial symptoms in o
