Application of Nanocomposites-Based Polymers on Managing Fungal Diseases in Crop Production.

Phytopathogen caused loss of global crop production of 16% and up to 25% in developing countries. Among them, fungi accounted for the highest ratio value with 42%, which direct reduced crop yield and quality. Nanotechnology can be applied to crop protection to build sustainable agricultural production. Polymers (gum, mucilage, chitosan) are naturally derived, readily available, inexpensive, convertible, and biodegradable, which could be combined with nanotechnology to enhance their properties and benefit. In this review, ionic gelation is more popular than nanoprecipitation, emulsion, γ-rays i

Gentamicin and Citronella-Derived Compounds as Dual Modulators of Inflammation-Associated Targets in Acne Vulgaris.

Acne Vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder driven by a combination of microbial colonization, immune dysregulation, and disruption of the epidermal barrier. Although isotretinoin remains the most effective treatment, the molecular mechanisms underlying its anti-inflammatory effects are incompletely understood. This study integrates transcriptomic meta-analysis and computational drug screening to identify novel therapeutic targets and candidate compounds for acne management. Three publicly available GEO datasets (GSE6475, GSE10433, GSE11792) were analyzed to identify differentially e

Antimicrobial Activity of Essential Oils against Staphylococcus and Malassezia Strains Isolated from Canine Dermatitis.

Staphylococcus spp. bacteria are the most frequently involved agents in canine cutaneous infections. Treatment of these infections is based on antibiotic therapy, that often is not effective because of the antibiotic-resistance of the bacterial strains. Cutaneous staphylococcal infections are often complicated by Malassezia yeasts, that may be resistant to the conventional antifungal drugs. The present investigation was aimed to evaluate the in vitro antimicrobial activity of some essential oils (EOs) in view of a potential cutaneous application. In detail, EOs obtained from lemon verbena (Alo

Diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic pseudocysts and cystic tumors based on own material and quoted literature.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) remains a global health challenge characterized by insulin resistance and impaired incretin effects. This has spurred research into potential therapeutic agents from natural sources that can inhibit both protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) and dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP4), which are implicated in these diabetes effects. This study explored the therapeutic potential of Artemisia afra, Cymbopogon citratus, and Agathosma betulina through a dual approach: in vitro enzyme inhibition assays of their essential oils and computational modeling of their broader chara

Evaluating the antifungal efficacy and bioactive metabolites of a traditional polyherbal aqueous formulation BioCC+ against Fusarium graminearum and Fusarium verticillioides.

Fungal contamination of cereal crops threatens global food security by compromising grain quality and introducing harmful mycotoxins that endanger human and animal health. In West Africa, the long-standing ancestral use of native plant extracts to manage fungal contamination provides sustainable and locally adaptable solutions. Building on this knowledge, BioCC+, a polyherbal aqueous formulation containing Azadirachta indica, Cymbopogon citratus, Allium sativum and Capsicum frutescens, was developed to control maize contamination during storage in Côte d'Ivoire. This study evaluated the antifu

Anti-hyperalgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of citral with β-cyclodextrin and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes in animal models.

Citral (CIT) is a monoterpene formed by the geranial and neral stereoisomers. CIT is the major compound of Cymbopogon citratus essential oil, commonly known as "lemongrass", and has demonstrated potential antihyperalgesic, anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects. However, CIT shows high volatility, low solubility in water and consequent low bioavailability, which limits its use. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate cell viability, anti-hyperalgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of inclusion complexes of CIT on β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD).

Nature-based solutions for enhancing CO2 sequestration and rehabilitating degraded lands through silvo-aromatic system and soil moisture conservation techniques.

Ravine land is one of the most degraded lands which results from extreme soil erosion. The soil fertility in these lands is low which affects plant survival, making the cultivation of arable crops impractical. However, with the use of soil moisture conservation (SMC) techniques, the productivity of these areas can be significantly enhanced. The present study aims to rehabilitate the ravine area by combining aromatic grass, tree planting, and SMC techniques. We hypothesized that silvo-aromatic system combined with SMC measures will lead to significant improvements in CO2-sequestration, soil org

Screening organic repellent compounds against Lutzomyia longipalpis (Diptera: Psychodidae) present in plant essential oils: Bioassay plus an in silico approach.

In the Americas, Lutzomyia longipalpis is the most relevant sand fly species for the transmission of visceral leishmaniasis. For its vector control in Brazil, insecticide spraying has not shown persistent reduction in disease prevalence while some sand fly populations are reported resistant to the insecticides used in spraying. The usage of repellents and personal protection behavior can reduce vector borne diseases prevalence. Therefore, the search for new repellent compounds is needed to use together with insecticide spraying, especially from natural sources to overcome the resistance develo

Anti-Methanogenic Effect of Phytochemicals on Methyl-Coenzyme M Reductase-Potential: In Silico and Molecular Docking Studies for Environmental Protection.

Methane is a greenhouse gas which poses a great threat to life on earth as its emissions directly contribute to global warming and methane has a 28-fold higher warming potential over that of carbon dioxide. Ruminants have been identified as a major source of methane emission as a result of methanogenesis by their respective gut microbiomes. Various plants produce highly bioactive compounds which can be investigated to find a potential inhibitor of methyl-coenzyme M reductase (the target protein for methanogenesis). To speed up the process and to limit the use of laboratory resources, the prese
