Factors influencing the effectiveness of liming on cadmium reduction in rice: A meta-analysis and decision tree analysis.

Lime is widely applied as a soil amendment to reduce the grain cadmium (Cd) content in rice production. However, the effectiveness of liming on grain Cd reduction is inconsistent and often cannot meet the safety requirements established for rice production. To identify the factors causing the effectiveness of liming to vary, we collected data from peer-viewed articles regarding lime application in paddy soils that were published during the last ten years. The average Cd reduction rates in rice grains after liming were -44% across all the studies considered, which could be broken down into -48%

Economic evaluation of varicella vaccination strategies in Jiangsu province, China: a decision-tree Markov model.

This study evaluated different varicella vaccination strategies in Jiangsu province, China. A decision-tree Markov model was used to evaluate the cost effectiveness of various varicella vaccination strategies for children, including direct and selective vaccination (serotesting pre-vaccination). A cohort of one-year-old children was followed through 60 one-year Markov cycles. The parameter estimation was based on field work, the literature, and statistical yearbooks. We calculated the incremental cost-utility ratio (ICUR) using the saved quality-adjusted life year (QALY). One-way and probabili

Predictors of Successful First-Pass Thrombectomy with a Balloon Guide Catheter: Results of a Decision Tree Analysis.

Complete recanalization after a single retrieval maneuver is an interventional goal in acute ischemic stroke and an independent factor for good clinical outcome. Anatomical biomarkers for predicting clot removal difficulties have not been comprehensively analyzed and await unused. We retrospectively evaluated 200 consecutive patients who suffered acute stroke and occlusion of the anterior circulation and were treated with mechanical thrombectomy through a balloon guide catheter (BGC). The primary objective was to evaluate the influence of carotid tortuosity and BGC positioning on the one-pass

Assessing assistive technology requirements in children with written language disorders. A decision tree to guide counseling.

Children with a written language disorder are sometimes dependent upon help from others for their schoolwork. A computer can be a way to circumvent this difficulty. Various software programs and plug-in peripheral devices are available, some of which specifically target the needs of these young people. There is no consensus, however, with regard to how best to counsel parents and children with regard to these tools. Furthermore, written language disorders and existing technical supports are not always clearly understood. In many cases, healthcare and teaching professionals have only limited kn

A Novel Clinical Prediction Model for Prognosis in Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma Using Decision Tree Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare cancer with a heterogeneous prognosis. Prognostic models are not widely utilized clinically. Classification and regression tree (CART) analysis examines the interaction of multiple variables with a given outcome. METHODS: Between 2005 and 2014, all cases with pathologically confirmed MPM had routinely available histological, clinical, and laboratory characteristics recorded. Classification and regression tree analysis was performed using 29 variables with 18-month survival as the dependent variable. Risk groups were refined accordin

The use of a decision tree based on the rabies diagnosis scenario, to assist the implementation of alternatives to laboratory animals.

Brazilian federal legislation makes the use of alternatives mandatory, when there are validated methods to replace the use of laboratory animals. The objective of this paper is to introduce a novel decision tree (DT)-based approach, which can be used to assist the replacement of laboratory animal procedures in Brazil. This project is based on a previous analysis of the rabies diagnosis scenario, in which we identified certain barriers that hinder replacement, such as: a) the perceived higher costs of alternative methods; b) the availability of staff qualified in these methods; c) resistance to

Assessment of hepatic reserve for indication of hepatic resection: decision tree incorporating indocyanine green test.

Preoperative assessment of liver function and prediction of postoperative remaining functional liver parenchymal mass and reserve is of paramount importance to minimize surgical risk, especially in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the majority of whom have liver cirrhosis as a complication. We have established a decision tree for deciding the safe limit of hepatectomy based on three variables: whether ascites is present, the serum total bilirubin level, and the indocyanine green retention rate at 15 minutes (ICGR-15), an indicator of sinusoidal capillarization. In patients who sho

Risk Stratification to Optimize Colorectal Cancer Screening: Development and Validation of a Decision-Tree Model for Colonoscopy Prioritization.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Fecal immunochemical test-based colorectal cancer screening is effective; however, colonoscopy demand exceeds endoscopy capacity. Delays in colonoscopy after a positive test reduce screening effectiveness. We developed and validated a decision-tree model to stratify colorectal cancer risk among individuals with a positive test to prioritize colonoscopy for those at highest risk. METHODS: Prospective study including participants with a positive fecal immunochemical test referred for colonoscopy within a Spanish regional population-based screening program (2021-2024). Indiv

Decision Tree Prediction of Saline Infusion Test Outcomes in Suspected Primary Aldosteronism: A Multicenter CDM Study.

CONTEXT: Confirmatory aldosterone suppression testing is widely utilized following positive screening for primary aldosteronism (PA), yet its incremental diagnostic value remains debated. While the 2025 Endocrine Society guideline proposes a probability-based approach, validated tools to translate this concept into clinical decision-making, particularly in Asian populations, are lacking. METHODS: Using a multicenter Common Data Model (CDM) across three tertiary hospitals (2002-2020), we retrospectively identified 307 patients who underwent SIT for suspected PA. SIT positivity was defined as p

Tree Harvest Decisions Modulate the Climate Impact of Rewetting in a Low-Productive Peatland Forest in Boreal Sweden.

Over the past century, extensive areas of northern peatlands have been drained for forestry. Today, concerns about their role as significant sources of greenhouse gases (GHG) have sparked growing interest in peatland rewetting as a climate mitigating strategy. However, empirical evidence for rewetting effects on ecosystem carbon (C) and GHG balances is still limited, particularly for minerogenic boreal peatland forests. Rewetting of peatland forests also involves decisions about tree harvest, which can have important but understudied consequences for the C cycle. In this study, we quantified t

A decision tree-based algorithm for structured risk stratification of rare rheumatic diseases in a tertiary referral setting.

BACKGROUND: Rare inflammatory rheumatic diseases are often characterized by heterogeneous, multisystemic symptom patterns, complicating early diagnostic differentiation. This study aimed to model a structured, symptom- and laboratory-based decision approach for risk stratification of rheumatologic diagnoses in patients referred to a tertiary Center for Rare Diseases (CRD) with unclear systemic complaints. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional analysis of 173 patients evaluated at a CRD. Patients were classified into rheumatologic (RHEUMA) and non-rheumatologic (OTHER) diagnost
