Leeway space preservation in the mixed dentition is a well-documented method of space management. In the mandibular arch it may be saved for utilisation in the correction of minor anterior crowding by the placement of a passive lower lingual arch (LLA) during the transition from the mixed dentition to the permanent dentition.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the degree of tooth wear in posterior deciduous teeth of 100 subjects in the second phase of mixed dentition who were born in the 1950s (50sG) and 100 subjects born in the 1990s (90sG). The degree of abrasion for each posterior deciduous tooth was scored ranging from 0 to 3. The comparison of the degree of abrasion showed significant differences between the two groups for all examined teeth (upper and lower deciduous canines and first and second primary molars) all of which appeared to be more abraded in the 50sG. The findings of the present study indicate

Management of root fracture of mandibular lateral incisors during mixed dentition with developing crowding in a ten year old boy by bilateral surgical extraction. Migration of permanent canine into the extracted region of lateral incisors was favourable with minimal spacing in between the rest of the teeth. The near normal parallel position of the roots of the permanent canines was achieved by early treatment planning of extraction of the lateral incisors instead of treating by other modalities which have a poor prognosis.

Secondary bone grafting of a residual alveolar cleft has become a well established procedure. However, little attention has been paid to the benefits of these bone grafts in patients with clefts of the lip and alveolus only. This retrospective and comparative study includes 21 patients who had received a secondary or a late secondary bone grafting procedure from tibia and whose mean clinical and radiographic follow-up after the bone graft was 5.5 years. Eighteen patients treated without bone grafting served as controls. Length and width of cleft, presence or absence of permanent lateral inciso

This clinical report describes the immediate autograft of primary (milk) teeth-derived demineralized dentin matrix (DDM) granules for a 6-year-old boy with unilateral alveolar cleft. First, four primary teeth were extracted, crushed in an electric mill for 1 min, and the crushed granules were demineralized in 2% HNO3 solution for 20 min. Simultaneously, the nasal mucoperiosteum was pushed upwards above the apices of the permanent central incisor adjacent to the cleft. The nasal and palatal openings were closed by suturing the mucoperiosteum on both sides of the cleft with absorbable threads. T

The unappealing taste of the chewing material and the time-consuming repetitive task in masticatory performance tests using artificial foodstuff may discourage children from performing natural chewing movements. Therefore, the aim was to determine the validity and reliability of a two-colour chewing gum mixing ability test for masticatory performance (MP) assessment in mixed dentition children. Masticatory performance was tested in two groups: systemically healthy fully dentate young adults and children in mixed dentition. Median particle size was assessed using a comminution test, and a two-c

This case report presents a nonsurgical correction of a dentoalveolar Brodie bite in a mixed dentition patient using a quad-helix appliance. Mandibular expansion resolved the transverse discrepancy within 3 months, improving occlusion, and eliminating a habitual mandibular shift that had contributed to facial asymmetry.

Anterior crossbite is a common tooth alignment discrepancy seen among the paediatric population especially during the mixed dentition stage. There are many causes of anterior crossbite, and the presence of supernumerary tooth/teeth is one of them. Early interceptive intervention is essential to avoid the need for more complex orthodontic treatment later. This case report describes the management of a 10-year-old child who presented with anterior crossbite involving Teeth 21 and 31, leading to gingival recession of Tooth 31. The crossbite malocclusion was associated with a supernumerary tooth i

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of different mixed dentition analysis methods in predicting the mesiodistal diameters (MDD) of unerupted permanent canines and premolars (PCP) in a Turkish population and to determine the most reliable method for clinical application.
METHODS: This research represents a retrospective, population-based cross-sectional study. Seven commonly used maxilla (Mx) and mandible (Md) unerupted PCP mesiodistal diameter prediction methods (Tanaka-Johnston, Moyers, Tränkmann, Legovic, Gross-Hasund, Bachmann, and Melgaço methods) were compared. The study i

OBJECTIVE: The primary goal of maxillary alveolar cleft reconstruction in patients with cleft lip/palate at the phase of mixed dentition is to build bone in the cleft area which in turn allows closure of the oronasal fistula, establishes arch continuity, and improve maxillary stability. This study aimed to evaluate the double iliac corticocancellous bone plates grafting technique for initial alveolar cleft grafting.
DESIGN: This prospective study was conducted on 12 consecutive patients with unilateral complete alveolar cleft and previous cleft lip and palate corrective surgery.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: The efficacy of acrylic splint expander (Splint) and Invisalign First aligners (First) in increasing transverse width in mixed dentition have been well documented, but little is known about their sagittal and vertical effects. Since sagittal and vertical changes are particularly critical in growing patients, the objective of this study was to assess and compare the sagittal and vertical treatment effects of First and Splint in mixed dentition with transverse maxillary deficiency.
METHODS: Sixty subjects were included after propensity score matching (PSM) from initial 16
