We studied the effect of lactational exposure to 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) on the susceptibility to Listeria infection of offspring in C57BL /6NCji mice. The offspring were nursed by TCDD-treated dams and exposed to TCDD from birth to weaning via milk. Understanding the kinetics of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) concentrations in humans is an important step for TCDD cancer risk assessment. In this paper longitudinal series of serum TCDD concentration measurements on U.S. veterans of the Vietnam war, who were exposed to dioxin during herbicide-spraying operations, are studied. Several cases of chloric acne have been observed in children after the accidental Seveso TCDD intoxication. The lesions consist in an inflammatory hyperkeratotic erythema of exposed areas, with numerous horny cysts, sometimes associated with granuloma annulare aspects of the hands. All lesions have the same histological pattern and atrophoderma vermiculata is often their ultimate evolution. These cases are similar to the epidemic follicular keratosis observed in 1946 around Bâle in Switzerland; thus the clinical and genetic evolution of these patients may be foreseen.

Ambient air samples collected in an industrial park at the northeastern edge of the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau (China) were analyzed for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs), polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs), and dioxin-like (dl) polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The formation of chlorinated and non-chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) has been experimentally investigated after the Fenton oxidation of 2-chlorophenol (2-CP, 15.56 mM) aqueous solutions by assessing the influence of iron concentration (0.09-2.88 mM), hydrogen peroxide dose (40.44-202.20 mM), temperature (20-70 °C) and chloride concentration (0-56.35 mM). The presence of chloride in the medium together with room temperature and substoichiometric Fenton conditions (40.44 mM H2O2) led to an increase in total PCDD/Fs concentration from less than 1 ng L(-1) to 2 μg L(-1).
