Multi-task spatial distillation reveals cell-type-resolved programmed cell death landscapes in the human kidney.

Kidney injury and chronic kidney disease progression are accompanied by spatially heterogeneous activation of programmed cell death (PCD), yet existing approaches have limited ability to jointly infer cell-type composition, death-program activity, and their spatial organization from spatial transcriptomics (ST) data. We present CoDeST (Confidence-weighted Dual-teacher Spatial Training), a multi-task spatial inference framework that predicts, for each ST spot, a 34-class kidney cell-type composition vector together with continuous activity scores for four PCD programs: apoptosis, pyroptosis, ne

SAF-SD: Self-Distillation Object Segmentation Method Based on Sequential Three-Way Mask and Attention Fusion.

Transformer models have achieved powerful performance in various computer vision tasks. However, their black-box nature severely limits model interpretability and the reliability of real-world applications. Most existing interpretation methods generate explanation maps by perturbing masks from the last layer of the Transformer encoder, but they often overlook uncertain information in masks and detail loss during upsampling and downsampling, resulting in coarse localization, blurred boundaries, and significant background noise in explanations. To address these issues, this paper proposes a self

PGFD-YOLO: A dual-modal object detection framework with progressive gated fusion and foreground-guided distillation.

Effective waste classification is essential for improving resource recovery and reducing landfill burden. However, existing methods predominantly rely on single RGB imaging, which is insufficient for distinguishing overlapping, transparent, or similarly colored waste items. This study proposes a dual-modal waste detection model, PGFD-YOLO, based on YOLOv11, which integrates RGB and depth information without requiring dedicated depth sensors. Depth maps were generated from standard RGB images using monocular depth estimation (Depth Anything V2). Three architectural innovations were introduced:

KDTViT knowledge distillation, transfer learning and transformer based deep learning framework for efficient histopathology image classification.

Manual detection of breast cancer in histopathology images is a highly complex task due to variations in tissue appearance and the requirement for analysis across multiple magnifications levels. The often overlooked problem in most existing approaches is the number of models required for different magnification levels. Most works in this field use separate models for each magnification, which can limit scalability and practical real-world deployment. This proposed study leverages Transfer Learning and Knowledge Distillation with transformers to develop a unified model capable of handling histo

Efficient and Accurate Epilepsy Seizure Prediction and Detection Based on Multi-Teacher Knowledge Distillation RGF-Model.

BACKGROUND: Epileptic seizures are unpredictable, and while existing deep learning models achieve high accuracy, their deployment on wearable devices is constrained by high computational costs and latency. To address this, this work proposes the RGF-Model, a lightweight network that unifies seizure prediction and detection within a single causal framework. METHODS: By integrating Feature-wise Linear Modulation (FiLM) with a Ring-Buffer Gated Recurrent Unit (Ring-GRU), the model achieves adaptive task-specific feature conditioning while strictly enforcing causal consistency for real-time infer

Lightweight Transformer-based knowledge distillation framework for high-dimensional spatiotemporal radiomics in breast cancer risk prediction.

Breast cancer exhibits significant spatiotemporal heterogeneity. Traditional radiomics approaches usually rely on low-temporal-resolution imaging and discrete image phases, failing to capture the rapid and continuous kinetic evolution within the tumor microenvironment. Although ultrafast dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging captures precise contrast agent permeation, current methodologies lack systematic, dedicated computational frameworks to extract these high-dimensional dynamic features. To bridge this gap, this study developed and validated a robust two-stage spatiotemporal

Research on the Characteristics of Heat Transfer and Mass Transfer of Imitation Heart Pulse Membrane Distillation.

Membrane distillation, a separation technology, has drawn wide attention in industries such as seawater desalination and high-salinity wastewater treatment. However, conventional steady-flow operation suffers from flux decline and membrane fouling, while standard square-wave and sine-wave pulsations provide limited enhancement and stability. To address these issues, this study introduces heartbeat-mimicking pulsatile flow. Its effects on membrane distillation performance were evaluated through comparative (steady vs. pulsatile) experiments, a three-level orthogonal experiment, and tests with v

CIGMA: Causal-inspired invariant graph matching with multi-view contrastive distillation for predicting herb-symptom associations.

Deciphering herb-symptom associations (HSAs) and their underlying mechanisms is essential for the modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine. However, current methods primarily focus on graph topology modeling, which often relies on coarse-grained structures that overlook the heterogeneous contributions of individual proteins and are susceptible to spurious correlations. To address these limitations, we proposed CIGMA, a novel framework explicitly designed for out-of-distribution generalization in biological network association prediction. First, we introduced a gated graph matching module

Rapid electrothermal upcycling hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD) polluted distillation residue into turbostratic graphene for enhanced electromagnetic wave absorption.

The trichloroethylene production industry generates high-boiling-point solid residues during rectification, which contain high concentrations of chlorinated contaminants, particularly hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD). Traditionally, these distillation residues are managed through co-incineration or landfilling, leading to environmental and economic challenges. In this study, we present a rapid and environmentally friendly electrothermal approach for both detoxifying and upcycling distillation residue into graphene-based electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbing materials. By employing a DC power pulse di

Self-knowledge distillation-empowered directional connectivity transformer for microbial keratitis biomarkers segmentation on slit-lamp photography.

The lack of standardized, objective tools for measuring biomarker morphology poses a significant obstacle to managing Microbial Keratitis (MK). Previous studies have demonstrated that robust segmentation benefits MK diagnosis, management, and estimation of visual outcomes. However, despite exciting advances, current methods cannot accurately detect biomarker boundaries and differentiate the overlapped regions in challenging cases. In this work, we propose a novel self-knowledge distillation-empowered directional connectivity transformer, called SDCTrans. We utilize the directional connectivity

On Fractioning the Tire Pyrolysis Oil in a Pilot-Scale Distillation Plant under Industrially Relevant Conditions.

Tire pyrolysis oil (TPO) is one of the most interesting products derived from the pyrolysis of end-of-life tires. Among others, it contains valuable chemicals, such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX), as well as limonene. In order to recover these chemicals, a pilot-scale distillation plant has been designed, erected, and operated using TPO derived from an industrial-scale pyrolysis plant. The distillation facility consists of a packed column (20 kg/h) and is within the fifth technological readiness level. This work describes for the first time the fractioning of the TPO in a

Distillation Time as Tool for Improved Antimalarial Activity and Differential Oil Composition of Cumin Seed Oil.

A steam distillation extraction kinetics experiment was conducted to estimate essential oil yield, composition, antimalarial, and antioxidant capacity of cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.) seed (fruits). Furthermore, regression models were developed to predict essential oil yield and composition for a given duration of the steam distillation time (DT). Ten DT durations were tested in this study: 5, 7.5, 15, 30, 60, 120, 240, 360, 480, and 600 min. Oil yields increased with an increase in the DT. Maximum oil yield (content, 2.3 g/100 seed), was achieved at 480 min; longer DT did not increase oil yields

From wetting mechanisms to anti-wetting membrane design: An interfacial and colloidal perspective on membrane distillation.

Membrane distillation (MD) is a promising thermally driven desalination technology due to its high rejection of non-volatile contaminants and its ability to operate under relatively mild conditions. However, membrane wetting remains a persistent challenge that hinders its distillation efficiency and long-term application. This review presents a mechanism-based perspective on MD wetting by linking capillary pressure imbalance, surface-tension reduction, surfactant adsorption, scaling, and colloid-driven interfacial interactions to pore invasion and performance deterioration. The influence of ke

Knowledge Distillation and Reinforcement Learning in a Human--Machine Collaboration Delivery System With a Robotic Arm.

Robotic arms are widely used in various aspects of human-robot collaboration. The primary goal of this study is to explore the usability of robotic arms for delivering objects to humans in dynamic environments. Traditional robotic arms often face limitations in path planning, such as difficulties adapting to dynamic environments and complex developmental processes. To overcome these challenges, this study employs reinforcement learning (RL) to train four models-the Approach RL Model, Delivery RL Model, Decision RL Model, and Merged Model-as alternatives to conventional path planning control. MBDANet: a multi-scale balanced dynamic alignment detection network based on knowledge distillation for small objects.

Small object defect detection is a pivotal technique for the industrial transition from post-facto rework to proactive prevention. However, existing detection methods still face challenges, such as the trade-off dilemma among computational complexity, model size, and detection accuracy. To address these issues, this study proposes a multi-scale balanced dynamic alignment detection network (MBDANet) based on the improved YOLOv8n architecture. The process begins with a robust feature downsampling module that downsamples the backbone network to better extract small-object features from both deep
