Ebstein anomaly: report of a familial occurrence and prenatal diagnosis.

The Ebstein anomaly is a rare congenital heart disease involving the position and structure of the tricuspid valve. Although most cases are sporadic, familial occurrence has been documented. We report on 2 sisters, born to consanguineous parents, who were diagnosed prenatally with severe Ebstein anomaly.

Ebstein Anomaly and the Range of Right-Sided Heart Defects.

Ebstein anomaly (EA) is a rare congenital heart defect characterized by an abnormal development of the tricuspid valve (TV) and ventricular myocardium. The TV is displaced downward into the right ventricle (RV), leading to an atrialized basal portion of the RV above the closure plane of the TV and an often hypoplastic functional RV. Common consequences include cyanosis, TV regurgitation, arrhythmias, and heart failure. Although primarily a valve defect, EA can be regarded as a cardiomyopathy as well. Coexistence of EA with other cardiomyopathies, including left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC

Case report: Antidromic atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia and underlying Ebstein anomaly.

Multiple accessory pathways (APs) can develop in patients with Ebstein anomaly. Rarely, these APs can participate in antidromic atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia (AVRT) which can be life-threatening and requires unique considerations for acute management and ultimate ablation. These considerations are discussed herein.

Heart Transplantation for Ebstein Anomaly due to Late Surgical Presentation.

Ebstein anomaly is a myopathy of the right ventricle characterized by failure of tricuspid valve delamination with accompanying tricuspid regurgitation. Its rarity, considerable anatomic variability, and frequent absence of symptoms can make the timing of surgery challenging. Contemporary tricuspid repair techniques can be performed with low mortality and bidirectional cavopulmonary anastomosis reduces the risk of operation when right ventricular function is poor. Here, we present a patient who presented late for surgery, failed high-risk conventional surgery and required heart transplantation

Morbidity Burden in Patients With Ebstein Anomaly: The Natural History.

BACKGROUND: The lifetime morbidity burden of patients with Ebstein anomaly (EA) has not been well described. METHODS AND RESULTS: Through an extensive 2-country register-based collaboration, patients diagnosed with EA who were born between 1930 and 2017 were identified in Danish and Swedish nationwide medical registries. Each patient was matched by age and sex with 10 control subjects from the general population. Cox proportional-hazards regression, Fine-Gray competing risk regression, and Kaplan-Meier failure function were used to estimate the morbidity burden. The study included 794 patient

Prognostic implications of atrial fibrillation in adults with Ebstein anomaly.

OBJECTIVE: Supraventricular arrhythmias are common in adults with Ebstein anomaly (EA). However, there are limited data about prognostic implications of atrial fibrillation (AF) in this population. Accordingly, our aim was to assess the clinical profile and burden of AF in adults with EA, and the relationship between AF and outcomes. METHODS AND RESULTS: Six hundred eighty-two consecutive adults with a median age of 36 (24-49) years from Mayo Clinic, Minnesota, USA, between 2003 and 2020 were included. Sustained episodes of AF, clinical, echocardiographic, rhythm and surgical data were collec

Identification of clinically relevant phenotypes in patients with Ebstein anomaly.

BACKGROUND: Ebstein anomaly (EA) is a heterogeneous congenital heart defect (CHD), frequently accompanied by diverse cardiac and extracardiac comorbidities, resulting in a wide range of clinical outcomes. HYPOTHESIS: Phenotypic characterization of EA patients has the potential to identify variables that influence prognosis and subgroups with distinct contributing factors. METHODS: A comprehensive cross-sectional phenotypic characterization of 147 EA patients from one of the main referral institutions for CHD in Colombia was carried out. The most prevalent comorbidities and distinct subgroups

EBSTEIN ANOMALY IN THE TSUSHIMA LEOPARD CAT (PRIONAILURUS BENGALENSIS EUPTILURUS).

Ebstein anomaly is a rare congenital heart disease that has been described in domestic dogs, a meerkat, a pygmy goat, and a lion. An 11-mo-old Tsushima leopard cat presented to Osaka Prefecture University Veterinary Hospital for diagnosis and treatment of right-sided congestive heart failure. Echocardiography showed a dilated right atrium and ventricle with an enlarged tricuspid valve annulus and apical displacement of the tricuspid valve leaflets. The cat was diagnosed with Ebstein anomaly. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of this type of congenital heart disease in a Ts

Diagnosis and management of ebstein anomaly of the tricuspid valve.

Ebstein anomaly (EA) is a rare congenital heart defect that may not be detected until late in adolescence or adulthood. Since the original description in a 19-year-old laborer with severe tricuspid valve (TV) regurgitation in 1866, our understanding of this rare condition has increased to the recognition that it is an abnormality not only of the TV, but also of the right ventricle (RV). EA is the result of failure of delamination of the TV leaflets from the interventricular septum, resulting in adherence of the leaflets to the underlying myocardium. This results in a wide variety of abnormalit

[Circular shunting of blood: a complication of neonatal Ebstein anomaly].

We report a severe neonatal presentation of Ebstein anomaly with homodynamic aggravation at birth attributed to patent ductus arteriosus and circular shunt. Prenatal diagnosis of Ebstein anomaly of the tricuspid valve with functional pulmonary atresia was made at 37 weeks gestation by fetal two- and three-dimensional echocardiography. A cesarean section was performed in view of poor fetal tolerance. The newborn was born with hydrops and multivisceral failure. A post-natal echocardiography demonstrated a left-to-right shunt across the patent ductus arteriosus and functional pulmonary atresia wi
