Distribution of axial length in Chinese congenital ectopia lentis patients: a retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Congenital ectopia lentis (CEL) usually leads to refractive error and may influence the axial length development. But few investigations have reported patient demographics and the distribution of axial length (AL) before surgery in Chinese pediatric patients with CEL. To describe the distribution of AL before surgery in CEL patients and its relationship with patients' demographics, such as age, Marfan syndrome, sex, and laterality. METHODS: This retrospective study reviewed 306 CEL patients from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2015. One eye was randomly selected from each patient

Predicting Marfan Syndrome in Children With Congenital Ectopia Lentis: Development and Validation of a Nomogram.

PURPOSE: To derive an effective nomogram for predicting Marfan syndrome (MFS) in children with congenital ectopia lentis (CEL) using regularly collected data. METHODS: Diagnostic standards (Ghent nosology) and genetic test were applied in all patients with CEL to determine the presence or absence of MFS. Three potential MFS predictors were tested and chosen to build a prediction model using logistic regression. The predictive performance of the nomogram was validated internally through time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curves, calibration curves, and decision curve analysis. R

Influencing factors of effective lens position in patients with Marfan syndrome and ectopia lentis.

AIMS: The aim of this study was to analyse the effective lens position (ELP) in patients with Marfan syndrome (MFS) and ectopia lentis (EL). METHODS: Patients with MFS undergoing lens removal and primary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation were enrolled in the study. The back-calculated ELP was obtained with the vergence formula and compared with the theoretical ELPs. The back-calculated ELP and ELP error were evaluated among demographic and biometric parameters, including axial length (AL), corneal curvature radius (CCR) and white-to-white (WTW). RESULTS: A total of 292 eyes from 200 patien

A recurrent FBN1 mutation in an autosomal dominant ectopia lentis family of Indian origin.

PURPOSE: To identify the genetic defect in an autosomal dominant ectopia lentis (EL) family having 27 affected members in four generations. METHODS: Detailed family history and clinical data were recorded for 48 family members including 24 persons with isolated ectopia lentis. Candidate gene regions at 5q and 15q known to be linked with ectopia lentis were analyzed using fluorescent labeled microsatellite markers. Mutation screening in the candidate gene, fibrillin-1 (FBN1), at 15q was performed by bidirectional sequencing of the amplified products. RESULTS: A maximum LOD score of 5.74 at th

Mutations in the fibrillin gene responsible for dominant ectopia lentis and neonatal Marfan syndrome.

Mutations in the gene coding for fibrillin on chromosome 15 (FBN1) are known to cause Marfan syndrome (MFS). A related disorder, dominant ectopia lentis (EL), has also been linked genetically to this locus. We now describe ten novel mutations of FBN1 resulting in strikingly different phenotypes. In addition to classic MFS, FBN1 mutations also give rise to EL and a severe neonatal form of MFS. Interestingly, the neonatal MFS mutations are clustered in one particular region of FBN1, possibly providing new insights into genotype-phenotype comparisons.

Clinical and linkage study of a large family with simple ectopia lentis linked to FBN1.

Simple ectopia lentis (EL) was studied in a large family, by clinical examination and analysis of linkage to markers in the region of FBN1, the gene for fibrillin which causes Marfan syndrome on chromosome 15. No patient had clinical or echocardiographic evidence of Marfan syndrome, although there was a trend towards relatively longer measurements of height; lower segment; arm span; middle finger, hand, and foot length in the affected members of the family, compared with unaffected sibs of the same sex. Analysis of linkage to intragenic FBN1 markers was inconclusive because they were relativel
