Effect of Novel Continuing Medical Education Curriculum on Attitudes and Understanding of Primary Care Medicine for the Naval Surface Provider.

INTRODUCTION: Naval Surface Forces provide care in austere environments with unique facility, personnel, and material limitations that can put the patient at risk without proper consideration of these circumstances. Tailored shipboard education currently exists but is greatly dependent on the time, preferences, expertise, and ability of a single teaching officer, allowing for significant variability in the level of training. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred and twenty-two individuals were trained in 19 topics presented over 12 months through the Naval Surface Forces Pacific Command Medical

Impact of Continuing Medical Education on Family Physicians' Knowledge and Clinical Decision-Making Regarding Intermittent Fasting in Type 2 Diabetes.

AIMS/BACKGROUND: Intermittent fasting (IF) is increasingly adopted by patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), often without adequate medical supervision. Despite growing patient demand, family physicians frequently report limited formal training in fasting-related diabetes management. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a structured continuing medical education (CME) intervention in improving family physicians' knowledge, confidence, and clinical decision-making regarding IF in T2DM. METHODS: A single-group pre-test and post-test interventional design was employed. Four weekly

One midwife, one student: Exploring continuity of preceptorship in midwifery education.

BACKGROUND: In Australia, undergraduate midwifery students spend a substantial component of the degree undertaking Midwifery Practice Experience (MPE) placements. The quality of this experience, particularly the consistency of preceptorship, plays a critical role in shaping student learning and professional identity. Continuity of preceptorship, where a student undertakes midwifery professional experiences under the supervision of the same midwife, has been shown to enhance learning outcomes. AIM: To investigate and compare students' perceptions and experiences within both the newly implement

Continuity interrupted: exploring discontinuity of education and mitigation strategies in family medicine.

BACKGROUND: Continuity of education (CoE) is a growing area of interest in health professions education, both for its impacts on learning (continuity of curriculum and continuity of supervision; CoS) and for its influence on patient care (continuity of patient care; CoPC). The COVID-19 pandemic offered an opportunity to examine discontinuity of education and the potential impacts of interruption to CoE, a knowledge gap in medical education research. METHODS: We conducted 14 semi-structured qualitative interviews involving participants from a Canadian family medicine programme. We recorded and

Continuous monitoring of health status outcomes: experience with a diabetes education program.

A diabetes education program was evaluated using an outcomes management system. Data concerning health status outcomes, including glycemic control (HbA1c), diabetes-related quality of life, and general health-related quality of life, were collected over a 15-month period. This information was collected for each clinic patient at entry into the program and again at a 6-month follow-up session. Patients improved significantly in all categories of outcomes. Newly diagnosed patients showed significantly greater reduction in HbA1c than did patients with a history of diabetes. Health-related quality

How We Embedded Consumer Engagement Into Workplace Education and Continuing Professional Development: A Quality Improvement Initiative in a Tertiary Imaging Department.

Consumer engagement, meaning the active involvement of patients and carers with lived experience, is increasingly recognised as central to high-quality, patient-centred healthcare, and in Australia it is embedded in national accreditation standards. Within diagnostic imaging departments, however, consumer perspectives remain under-represented in workplace education and continuing professional development (CPD), where educational activities have traditionally prioritised technical competency and workflow. This is despite the fact that clinicians frequently meet patients at vulnerable moments. T

Development and implementation of a continuing medical education program on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease for primary care practitioners in Europe.

BACKGROUND: Primary care has a crucial role to play in the prevention, early detection, referral, and risk factor management of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NAFLD/NASH). In 2021, a team of European collaborators developed a continuing medical education (CME) program on NAFLD/NASH that consolidates evidence and clinical best practices tailored to the primary care setting. This article reports on the methodology used to design and develop the CME and the results of a feasibility study. METHODS: An expert advisory group representing both European specialis

[Anti-pneumococcus, anti-herpes-zoster and anti-papillomavirus vaccinations: experience in programming continuing education courses in local health units in Rome].

The National Vaccine Prevention Plan considers the recommendations for immune prophylaxis in all ages of life. However, compulsory vaccination introduced in 2017 focused the attention on improving global vaccination coverage in infants and children, giving less attention to adult/elderly vaccinations. The immunization of this population is necessary considering the change in the age structure of the population, whose average life expectancy is increasing. Aim of this work was the organization of continuing education courses about anti-Pneumococcus, anti-Herpes-Zoster and anti-Papillomavirus va
